of course u forget to mention the very old action/rpg, where your "actions" should reflect the "role" you are "playing" for the certain "game"

I still qfg series did the best job for making sure u stay in character for the pc. Not just hack & slash or spell castin or sneaking around but a broad use of many things from real life as it would happen "if".

Talking about RPG, role-playing games as such, what do you actually think it is? Issit a game where you decide the actions of your character and see the story twist and turn to your individual decisions? Or is it a game where you play and watch your character go through the sequence, like a interactive movie or something. Define Role Playing....

For me I strongly believe 'RPG's as such should include dialogues with at least two options to choose from. Even fallout tactics I would'nt consider RPG. More like just action. For Diablo, duh? Just Hack and Slash, so I don't understand why some people say they like RPG but does'nt like Baldur's Gate and Fallout. Many people confuse between Action and Role playing.

In a True RPG, which is quite impossible, you can choose from an unlimited list of dialogue options, in other words like real life, like pen and paper games.

Don't confuse!

It's kinda like this: we have RPGs, cRPGs and H&Ss (Hack'n'Slashes). Obviously the first one is the best. Unless you have a very crappy GM or a team that only wants to spoil the fun. Many of the seconds are just wonderful, but the fun wears thin after several times you play it from the beginning. The thirds are great anti-stress devices. The best H&Ss have random dungeon generators (like Diablo, DIablo 2 and most roguelikes).

I'll prolly soon be GMing a Fallout team. I didn't do that for a long time and I forgot most of the goodies/tricks that I knew. Does anybody know any nice things to add to the story or how to punish disobedient players?
