Finally someone that understands......if you're magic hero wastes time casting those spells you will lose!!

Conclusion: cast meteor shower, lightning..........etc

I must say I personally uses magicians as my main almost always...but that does not means that might heroes sucks...it's different from each persons strategy....and someone are great with might heroes...someone with magic.....

First attack doesn't go to the "aggressor" - it goes to the army with the fastest creature.

I can't remember if Master Genies are faster than Thunderbirds right now, but essentially what you're saying is Crag Hack with Expert Air magic will be a tough foe to defeat.

So, are you really choosing Might or Magic?

Actually hey you..

Rychen knows his game quite well..

And assuming that you are on neutral terrain .. ie no snow, no rough, and neither have speed artifacts the Birds go first both creatures being speed 11.

SO yes the aggressor goes first when a tie is decided in fastest creature speed.. and yes once all of hacks units move forward soly better pray he has ressurect and a pendant of negativity.!

Point taken.

But the same holds true if I'm the aggressor, and have mass Haste, or mass Slow, or better yet, mass Berserk. This is what I meant by "neutralizing" (or even turning to my advantage) a might hero's greatest asset - his "might."

None of the Stronghold characters have magic resistance built-in. Crag would be well-advised to have Resistance or Recanter's or Inhibition if might is his chosen path (which it likely will be).

Mass Berserk kix @$$. Then his Cyclops' and whoever is next to them will be helping me do my dirty work.

True enough...

However... mass haste will not do much good for you... your creatures will prolly suffer more dmg from Hacks retals then you will deal..

Mass berserck sure thats gonna hurt.. but hope his faster units arn't out of its range.. and even so.. he can probably withstand one mass berserck, to give a haste.. then its over for soly.

Destro

Fair enough.

I guess if met with a powerful human-controlled Stronghold army, I'd probably go with mass Slow first, unless I could get his Behemoths, Cyclops, and Thunderbirds with the mass Berserk right off the bat.

I'm not sure I'd attack them directly with my ground troops though (the exception being the Naga Queens); I'd probably sit back, pick off his Orcs, send my Nagas after the (likely legion of) goblins, and keep throwing Berserk as long as I could!

Guess we'd just have to try it and see once. I've never had the opportunity to play a human; I'd like to, because the AI is no fun.

Andi:

With mass Slow, I'm getting first strike, and with single Haste, you'll only be able to move one group - say, Behemoths. I then Blind them, and focus on others. Unless, of course, I chose to Berserk them instead. At any rate, properly-played Magic, with initiative, can make life very difficult for Might. (Yes, I know the same holds true the other way around.)

Destro:

Sure, I'll play you. I have the full HoMM3 (with WoG, just in case). Send me an e-mail at tcasten2059@yahoo.com, and we can make arrangements, discuss rules, etc. This should be fun, playing a real person for a change. I'm looking forward to it -

First attack goes to the aggressor when speeds are equal, in this case, obviously they are.

Exp fire is quite rare to get, as is beserk. Most decent players go earth or air as first choices.

If you exp slow and sit back and pick off my creatures, I mass haste, and kill you

Mass haste is a might heroes weapon, not a magic heroes.

There is no substitute for armour and offense. As a magic hero, you need these things, or you die, you cannot withstand a might heroes offense.

A legion of goblins? If you are not killing your opponent by week 4 then you are too slow, or admiring too much scenery or something?

Finally, if you do not believe this, come to the zone and look for a quality opponent, coz you are a deadset n00b

I'll admit, when I play, I like to take my time; I'm not in a hurry to end the game. I suppose if I jumped in the "fast lane," I'd probably go with Fortress instead of Tower.

What's this "zone" to which you're referring?

Not that I don't believe you rychenroller, but I'd say three weeks in an XL map is very quick.  Especially when it's a blind or random map.  Sometimes I don't even find my opponent in the first two/three weeks (if he's underground for example) and then there's poor maps too...

At the top echelon of players (which im not part of) Randoms last til week 5. Absolute tops. Unless the template is 8XM8 or a map with no way to opponent, they will NEVER last past this (of course if you are playing d/d and someone is doing the lame "jump around the map" trick) I have never in my ToH career seen a legion of goblins, come to think of it, Ive never seen them in a final fight lol. Usually angels or wyvern replace this.

http://zone.msn.com/heroes/ is the website, go there for DECENT heroes action. Especially if you think you can play. Although it is not the same now, most good players have left, since the game is 4 yrs old, nearing 5

The Crag Hack/Tazar discussion

Call me a n00b, but isn't Crag Hack's specialty simply better than Tazar's when both heroes face each other(generally speaking)?

Let's assume that we have a level 1 Tazar with expert armorer. Damage will be reduced by 15%, which means that Tazar's enemies have to strike 100/85=17.6% harder/more. So increase in army performance when led by this Tazar is 17.6% Meanwhile, a level 1 Hack with exp. offense increases his creature performance with 30%.

At level 11 when Tazar's damage reduction is 22.5%, he increases his army performance with 29.0%. A level 11 Hack increases creature performance with 45%.

For a level 21 Tazar, it is 42,9%.
For a level 21 Hack, it is 60%.

For a level 41 Tazar, it is 81.8%.
For a level 41 Hack, it is 90%.

And at level 50, Tazar is finally better. Wow! As if you ever going to get above level 20 in a multiplayer game...

So am I missing something here, or is Hack specialty just better than Tazar's and is the offense skill better than the armorer skill?

The guy I'm not

I was out last night, sorry. I went and saw Blue Man Group with some friends. It's an excellent show, I highly recommend it to anybody who gets the opportunity to see it.

As for the contest - I'll not be able to play this weekend at all, my schedule is actually full (you'd think I had a life). We'll schedule a time soon, though; I'm sure that my social calendar will be back to it's normal (boring) self in a week or so.

wub, armorer vs offense has been discussed many times on this board, you can find the hreads if you look for them.

There are 2 things you are missing:
1. offense applies only to mellee attacks, not ranged attacks; armorer aplies to all attacks
2. offense adds bonus to your damage; armorer reduces (multiplies) damage.

I will give you an example for 2.

offense is affected by A/D difference
lets say we have expert offense (30%). It does NOT multiply your damage by 1.3. What it does is add a bonus to your damage, which is 30% of your BASE damage possibly reduced by A/D.
lets say you have 2 archangels doing 100 base damage
expert offense will give you additional 30 damage if the A/D is >= 0 (even if it's 100), but only 15 extra damage if A/D is -20. Note that your bomus will never exceed 30, so if you attack is much higher than the defense it doesnt give you much percentage wise - for A/D = 20, your 2 AA will do 200 damage and the offense bonus is only 15% (30/200).

Now armorer is about the last modifier that multiplies the received damage. Therefore, regardless of A/D you will always get the same damage reduction (15% for expert).

Moreover armorer will reduce the extra damage from lucky attacks, charge attacks, creature hatred attacks, etc, whereas offense won't give you anything extra in these cases.
