There is no artefact needed for that.
Expert slow is all u need.
1 big stack of the little blue princesses, 5 single stacks of them, and 1 stack of stormies.
Speed 3 on slow behemots isn't a threat at all.
Wait, hit, back for the big stack, lurking away for the single ones.
Easy thing....

Quote: Hi!
I'd like to present a little strategy to make offline games more interesting... That is "relying only on some close combat walkers".
........
So I tried a strategy to make it more challenging. I only play with troops like the following (the rest is left on a secondary hero to defend the castle or strategic points of the map):
Stronghold:
Goblins, Wolf Riders, Ogres, Cyclopses
(favourite Hero: Yog, Cyclops Man, Offense and Ballistics, he is the one that I would play anyday with any army)
Fortress:
Dragon Flies, Basiliscs, Mighty Moos (almost too easy, as they kill off the computer's Lvl7 creatures)
(favourite Hero: Alkin, great starting skills, or Korbac, making the flies fight a little better)
Castle:
Halberdiers as Cannon Fodder, Griffins, Crusaders, Champions
(a secondary with all the AAs and Shooters can defend ur Castle against anything ^^)
(favourite Hero: Sorsha, because of Crusader speed and offense)
Conflux:
Pixies, Fire, Earth, Magic Elementals
(favourite Hero: Monere or the guy with advanced offense)
Necro:
Skeletons, Zombies, Wraiths, Knights (most challenging combination)
(favourite Hero: Tamika, Galthran, Thant)
Inferno:
Hell Hounds, Demons, Pit Lords
(favourite Hero: Marius or the Pit Lord Lady)
Tower:
Nagas, Golems, Djinns, Gargoyles, sometimes unupgraded Giants
(favourite Hero: any orc or lizard might hero ^^)
Dungeon:
No real CC-Composition possible, as the Minotaur is the only true fighter here
Rampart:
Centaurs, Dwarves, Dendros, Unicorns
(favourite Hero: Mephala, any orc or lizard)
---
This strategy has two big advantages:
1) it is quite easy to build up.
2) Once your main is conquering the world, your castle will be well defended with Dragons and Grand Elves, a second hero there builds up slowly and can help later with his amassed 20 Angels to defeat the AI a little quicker.
3) it feels more honest in Close Combat than to shoot him and kill the remainders with your lvl7.
Disadvantages:
1) you have fewer troops in big battles, but that's what makes it interesting
2) you need expert ballistics for sieges, otherwise it may take too long. Expert Water and Teleport do the job as well.
3) on Maps without external dwellings or second town, your army will be really small.
......
I have a lot more fun playing the game since I play like this, I hope, someone got something out of it. :-)
I tried this tactic on "hard" difficult and it was a very tough game but finally I won it (I played with strongholt)
Very interesting, people should try this tactic. It will bring a lot of different fights in my opinion

Vs AI any hero is good, if he gets wisdom and earth. If playing Stronghold, your priority is to find other towns which can build higher mage guilds, find town portal then you won. Or, depending of the random map you choose-I suppose you play regular randoms-, getting it from scrolls or pandoras. Once you have town portal, AI can't win because it does not know how to use its heros optimally.
So you will face only small forces at once, and progressively expand until they are all out. That's it, vs AI.
On 200% select gold from all chests you find during the first 2 weeks, and look in priority for wood and ore. Rocs must be build very fast and upgraded. With a bunch of them, hard to not expand. Supposing that you know the basic of combat rules (speed/wait).
Without town portal, you will have to know how to manage long chains of heros and the flee/recruit tactic. This is harder, especially on regular randoms where the teleporters are a pain in the a$$.

Thanks for the tips! But why can't stronghold get water magic? Is it to make it balanced? Anyway i have just noticed something. Stronghold and fortress are similar and different in a way. Stronghold=good atk, fortress=good defense, stronghold=can get fire magic but cannot get water, fortress= cannot get fire magic but can get water magic. Wyverns and rocs are kinda similar in a way as u can get them fast.

All you need is earth and optionally air magic. Forget "bless", it is crap spell vs AI. Slow/haste/shield = best spells, then blind/resurrect if you seek for no casualties.

Gurnisson is also a pretty good hero for starting in 200%, after a few levels the ballista can really come in handy.
Secondaries:
Offense
Armorer
Earth(Slow, shield, TP)
Logistics
Wisdom(town portal, fly, DD)
Air(haste, DD)
maybe pathfinding if the map is filled with swamp, snow and sand and no roads
Artillery comes to start with if gurni, otherwise not really worth it.
if you have a lot of neutral shooters then forgetfullness with water might be worth it but very rarely, prayer on mass is also useful, cure and dispel against human

Guys...this is a tactic thread, not a "Please help me how to start a h3 game".
Feel free to open a new thread about how to play with stronghold, but here, we have outstanding tactics (mostly) to be presented.
