rmg.txt - Creating new templates
Well, this is basically meant as a continuation of the "Waiting for Midnight" thread. Maybe we can copy that one into this forum?
However, I've finished 3 new templates by now, putting most of my efforts into a template called "Oceans Eleven". I've played it 3 times online against a friend and I think we both enjoyed it so far. It's a bit hard in the beginning, but from week 3 on, you should get things going. A copy of the rmg.txt has been sent to Motorschaaf, maybe he'll give me some feedback.
A more general question: Is there an official way to submit templates for tournament play?
Ok, that should do as a first post. Hopefully it won't be deleted, lol

If you want them posted on MaH pages I think we could make a special page with just rmg.txt files that players have made. This is something I haven't discussed with Kitten but it seems like a logical thing to do. Haile if you send them to Destro and he thinks they are ready to be posted, he can then send them to me and I will set something up. Provided that Kitten doesn't cank the idea. For those of you wondering why I didn't just talk to her first, she is away for a few days moving into a new place We have been discussing redoing some map stuff anyway to put them all in one place so maybe this will actually get it done, lol.

excluding towns
I would like to know how to exclude towns like necro and conflux from templates. As it is now, that is the main reason for restarts.

Remove the "x" from the corresponding column in the rmg.txt file. I recommend downloading & using the texteditor from the bastard site (Textedit).

Haile has a good point at the end there... TextEdit rules. Dont try using word pad or similar. The rmg file is laid out in specific columns, and u need to see what the headings are in each column to have a hope in hell of making a new template.

A little help please...
When I remove my own edited Rmg file and add Hailes or midnights modified rmg, my generator goes back to producing all templates, even though the modified rmg is in the data folder. Anyone help me with this?

Bjorn, I had the same problem. See here for how I fixed it.
Short Answer: You need to extract the rmg.txt file from your own log files using the CRbanks editor. Find it here.
I was told that if it's working properly the rmg file automatically is there when the TextEditor opens up (The one from the bastards page.) And indeed, this was the case after I grabbed the file using the CRbanks program.

Hmmm.. Rychenroller... Hard to say what's wrong with the rmg.txt file from here.
All I know for sure is that the original rmg.txt file is still packed in one of those *.lod archives. So if anything is wrong with the rmg in the data folder, the Map Generator uses the file from the archive.
So I can only guess what's wrong there. The file I sent to Destro & Midnight is a zip file. You have to unzip that one. This gives you two text files (oceanselven.txt and gimli.txt). Depending on which one you like to use, rename the file to "rmg.txt" and place it into your data folder.
I'm pretty sure that's what you did, but it should work then. Maybe you can send me your rmg.txt that ain't working and I see what's wrong with it. EMail is haile_g@gmx.de

restricting conserves, hives, utopias, and plagues of scrolls
utopias only appear after the treasure stack is > 10000
Thus keep the treasure stack less than this unless u want relics in play.
Hives only appear after 9000, so likewise only allow treasure stacks greater than this if u wanna allow wyvern collecting.
Conserves r a real bugger. their guard is tiny. conserves appear after 2250 (approx), so to ban anything greater than 2250 is crazy cuz u wont get a lot of other items like treasuries. The way i found to restrict them is to ban any treasure stacks between 2250 and 3250. This is the range where conserves are on their own. After this the conserves must be combined with another item like resource, so are rarer. This technique appeared to get rid of more than half the conserves.
I've also noticed that around 500 u get mostly lvl 1 scrolls which get annoying, so i set my minimum at 800 which is piles of gold.
Thus i might set my treasure stack numbers to be:
6000 9000 1 3250 6000 3 800 2250 6
This avoids ANY relics, hives, and REDUCES conserves and annoying lvl 1 scrolls
Change the 9000 to 9500 or 10000 to include hives, but still avoid relics.

try the new flavours, u might like them
ha ha, tough Just think of it like new flavours of icecream, u can still eat chocolate icecream whilst other ppl will try the new funky flavours.
Double Choc Chip
one is, like u say, completely random where there are utopias everywhere, # of towns is random. allow as much of everything as you want. this is map u would like.
Macadamia Vanilla
another is no relics, hives etc where u want a basic map where u build an army and attack with relatively low stats, it will still be unbalanced in many ways, but not so much of a no brainer as when u get HH and tome of earth. this is sort of map that archie would like
Hazelnut Fudge Swirl
the sort i like is where is a combination of both, and getting to the rich area requires some element of risk

just tuning Panic so at least the first proper game on it doesnt have glaring problems. Hard to get starting areas to be tough but fair. I got most of next week off tho, so will have plenty of time to get this map, and a variant on a block map out.
