Just saw it ...
It's a very different movie from the Fellowship in both feel (much darker) and in it's faithfulness to the spirit of the novel (Fellowship was more faithful, I think). This is not to say that I didn't like it. It's beautiful. The scenery and cinematography are, again, top notch. Character development suffers in this one, however, just because there's so much plot material to cover. I hope it wins the academy award for best picture, even though Fellowship was, imho, a better movie.

Which battle are you referring to? I don't remember any big battle at the end of the fellowship.

Well, most actors today are "no-name". And I knew about John Rhys Davies way before this movie from the TV series Sliders.
Now for my review
I found this movie to be better than the previous one, even though it had some odd parts like jokes about Gimli and Gollum and scenes that were not in the book. But you kinda forget about all this when you see all the good things they added to the movie. The battle at helm's deep was the best scene I ever saw in a movie and was, and I say this for the first time of my life, better than I imagined it.

The movie was excellent
Not quite as spectacular as the first movie, but still a top-notch film. I can't wait for the third one!
Highlight moments for me were gollum's adventuring with the hobits, the battle at Helm's Deep(elves), and the tree ent attack on Isengard.

I think he is reffering to the battle between Boromir and the orks in the end of the first movie.It was indeed in the second book.

Oh... that battle! I think of it as more of a small fight compared to the big battles of TTT and the Return of the King. Of course it was in the second book, but it does fit better at the end of the fellowship - I think that even Tolkien would have agreed on this had he still been alive (when he wrote the books he never wanted to divide them into three volumes, the division was done by him only for the publishing company). It's the same with other scenes that were shifted.

Hey you know some of the people in that movie reminded of heroes creatures:
The Naskull: Death or Dread Knights
Orcs: Orcs (Duh!)
Riders of Rohan: Cavaliers
Hobbits: Halfling
Legolas:Grand ELf
Faramir:Sharpshooter
Gimli warf
Gollom:Troglyte
Gandalf: Achmage
Wolf Riders: The Wolfs of Mordor (those hyena things)
Can you guys think of any more?

Yeah,I kinda thougth the same.The nazguls however reminded black dragons with their new mounts.And what about the ents?Kinda looked like dendroid soldiers to me and the Balrog guy looked realy like the Devils of h3.
The Two towers was better than the Fellowship of the Ring,
but it was very different from the book.
Anyway,I just loved that movie,and I strongly recommend everyone to see it.

It's a great couple of movies so far. I hope to get all 3 when they come out as a set. I never read further than what the movies show so far, so I'm really looking forward to the next movie.
I'm interested to know how they did some of the filming. The battle sences are superb.
The Gimli/Legolas material was shakey, but it's all good the movies are great.

Silx your right w/ the new Naskull they look like they are on a Black Dragon. The Ents Certainly look like either Dendroid Soldiers or Dendroid Guards like you said.

I am no book fan (i haven't read the books) but i have to say both of them are so damn good!(I am certain that the 3rd part will be no exception in this)
I love big fancy battles yeaaaaah woo wooooo!!
But i would liked it better if it was more realistic...(aragorn left helm's deep fleeing with his horse among AAAAALLLLL these thousand of enemies)little tough isn't it?

hummmm... even though they messed up nearly everything from the book, it was great to actually "see" it come to life.
a good peice of advice for any mad book readers, this movie was BASED on the book, it wasent ment to be exactly like it.
(even though if it was it would be ten times better...)

Just seen the film yesterday and IMHO it's just great. I especially liked the battle at Helm's Deep and the destruction of Isengard. And for the nazguls... every time they appeared, I expected their birds to breath fire - they're really very similar to the Blackies.
For me, the second film is better than the first one, so now I'm waiting for the third film. Hope it will be even better, since the third part of LotR is my favourite.

Since the second movie was better than the first, I daren't dream of how the third will look.

It was a nice movie, allthough I can see where it could have been made better
I liked Fellowship of the Ring more. That was a "fantastic" movie, so the Two Towers qualifies as "great".
One can see why they added extra content about Arwen and Aragorn but that somehow didn't help my friends who didn't read the book to understand the grand events any better. I guess people should read books still to understand the flow
The fun thing about watching the movie after reading the books is that you imagine creatures in your own way and want to check out how the movie makers imagined them...
For me, the Balrog was the size of a human, with an upright figure, and burning with a bright flame, not the dirty one like in the movies. I thought of it more as a creature of inner strength, not as one of great stature.
The wargs/wolves of Mordor I imagined more like wolves, not like hyaena, and a bit smaller at that...
The Nazgul flying mount was really the way I imagined it, although I think it's much more similar to a Wyvern than a Black dragon.
And I thought Shadowfax would be grey
All that doesn't mean I am criticising the movie - I just imagined things differently, and it was real fun to see how others did that.

The books are a must for everyone who has seen the movies.
Most of them I know, including myself, read the books before seeing the movies. It has to be confusing to learn all of the characters' and cities' names if you've never heard of them before.
What you're saying about Arwen/Aragorn - is that true that they've ADDED this just for the film? I'm sure that you can read something about their relationship in the APPENDIX of the book.

LotR: TT sucked some. I really hated it. I'll get back to why in a moment...
I didn't like LotR: TFotR either, just after seeing it, but now it's like heaven, compared to that TT sh*t!
Well, here's the reasons:
1. The Orcs. They're described as black throughout Tolkien's works, but they're white!!!!! God, couldn't those lousy new Zealanders get the color right?! And those horrible screaming sounds they make. Why couldn't hey be given more guttural voices? Orcs shouldn't sound like women on a shopping spree!
2. The fangorn forest. Well, if I'd mention all the bad thing here, I'd use more time than I've got. But I'll mention the first things, and the most annoying ones. a) The Ents never thought Merry and Pips were Orcs. Treebeard accepted their explanation about a race he hadn't heard about right away. b) Gandalv did NOT show himself to Merry and Pips until the entish siege of Isengard. c) It wasn't Merry and Pippin who made the Ents attack Isengard. Tey decided on their own.
3. Why did Eomer come at dawn at Hornburg? And where were the Huorns?
4. Everything happened to fast and spontaneous (spelling?). In the books, every action were thought through properly, and all reasons were shown. Or something. Didn't get this out properly...
But anyway: if you're gonna see one LotR movie this winter, watch the old animated one from! I haven't seen it myself, but it's gotta be better than this new sh*t.
Please forgive me that I didn't have time / memory to mention the rest of this lousy movie's flaws..
