Help! M&M VI -- goblinwa

Good News: The Might and Magic Platinum Edition solved my "which Might and Magic to buy?" problem.  Deciding to begin at the beginning, I'm playing M&M VI, the first game in this particular bundle.  The story looks really interesting and I want to get into it.

Bad News:  I suck.  My party has walked around New Sorpigal, gotten some gold, hired some tag-alongs (healer & merchant), bought armor and weapons, and so on.  Then I got adventurous and left the town.  Oops!  Big mistake.  Someone gave me a key to the Goblinwatch building on a hill, but I can't even get near the door to go inside.  Every time, a large bunch of goblins and/or apprentice mages (if I go the wrong direction) kills my party.    When I kill some goblins, then run away to the wells in town to replenish hit points, the rest follow me and finish off whichever characters are still concious.

This is the very first quest, mind you.  You'd think it would be reasonably simple to ease new players into the game.  My party consists of a Paladin, an Archer, a Cleric, and a Sorcerer (balanced?  The Archer and Sorcerer do the most damage, and the Cleric does the least).  I'm now fighting with real weapons instead of those sticks-with-thorns, and I've rested the characters overnight before approaching the Goblinwatch building, but maybe I'm missing something else obvious.  That Death guy is getting annoying.  Any tips for an uber-newbie?

I'm just replaying the game now.

Dunno what you're missing, you have good line up, it's strange that the goblins are such threat.

If it's too hard, go to Ironfist(just over the bridge on west, with "over" meaning 3 or 5 days). Buy yourself in Berserker's Fury there bow skill. Buy bows too and then try goblins. Hit and run if nothing helps, you're faster than most critters in game.

There's one thing that could help with your start...but not many know about it so IM, PM in GG or find me at mIRC for that.

Have fun with best MM game.

There are no cannons that I can see.  Running into the keep was not easy, never mind killing everything inside!  Wizard's Eye and turn-based mode helped a lot in getting up the hill, though (thanks Nebuka!).  I got in and have started dying inside the building as opposed to outside of it.  Much better!

Actually, I'm now working on M&M 7 as well, since I have a Prima Guide for that (RPG training wheels ).  I still suck, but I've discovered a really cheap way of killing dragonflies...come up to them, kill a few, then RUN back to the village and lodge in the tavern for the night.  The flies follow you into the village, where the swordsman guards kill them while you sleep.  You get no experience, and a few peasants die along the way, but you can collect money from the bodies (what do dragonflies need gold for, anyway?) and there are fewer flies left when you go back into the swamp.  Too bad there are no handy swordsmen wandering around the village in M&M 6.

In MM6 you gotta fight step by step, means always large hordes of Monsters will attack.
Always save after u won some experience in the beginning.

Btw you created potions to boost up your characters? you can mix the basic ones (i think it was red, blue and yellow) up to 3 times, and if you find the right mixture you get your skills like might and endurance up (black potions).
I think might was red + yellow + red or something like that, just try it out hehe.
