hmmm, necro

necro may have best chance of being strongest in a game where they are allowed to build, but if i'm going up against them week 1 or 2 as is the case in 7 lakes, i would sure as hell prefer to have to take out necro than inferno
Not even sure why, have played that map from both sides and you seem able to sneak into the necro one 9 outta 10 times in week 1, but it's harder and much riskier proposition trying it on the inferno town. this of course was all on 200 %. I truly find the map enjoyable at impossible against the comp cann't say that for many maps.
either way, you want the second town week 1 or week 3?
why you would wait till week 3 to try and take one of the towns to begin with seems not very bright to me. leaving those comps to build for that long seems like asking for trouble. From the comps and your opponent who guaranteed is trying to get his town on that side week 1 or 2 max.

So i guess i agree that the towns should be changed, either make them the same towns or 2 more similarly bent towns. Speed is always an early advantage and it don't get faster than inferno

hmm if you say you can sneak in to take orange necro most of the time, then i really think that all you need on this map are those two cosmetic changes for green. All towns should have an option of reaching at least 1 chest on their island and of making a landfall on day 2 if they choose to do so.

As far as waiting till week 3 to take the orange or purple town the advantage in htat is that you will get a free capitol and all buildings including lv7. This way you can build up a complemnenting town and have double production, as well as have $ to keep buying units early in the game and bew enough of a strong presence on the map to influence AI's moves.

Necro-

I was speaking of week 3 Necro if your were playing Necro and took the orange town week 1. I agree... I have played that map only a few times, but from both sides, everytime as Blue or Green I could always get Orange in week 1. Only twice as Tan or Red did I manage to get Purple week 1. I think it is more how the map is shaped around Purple's land, it funnels the AI north towards where you must go through to take his town. Orange hero can wander off different directions and leave you an empty town.

Yes, Inferno AI seems to always build sultans whiel Necro AI only builds to vampires or possibly liches. That can be a significant difference week 1 when you are limited to only 2 hero's worht of armies on playing 200%

Just an observation, but all this discussion is over 1 map and what changes to make, and I say, if it played well before, why change it?

what I find is many people always play a map or 2, 10000000 times which makes people over analyze the smallest of things after awhile, and I know Ima be shot for this comment, but... it can make a versatile map such as 7 Lakes just like most of the maps you think have gotten old and boring that were once played by you. say battle for honor, battlemania, hourglass, desert war, etc..you may speak up and totally say Im wrong if you never played any of these maps more than once.

Seems dumb to make certain changes like set a town to a certain type, and say, ok week 1 I take it, and then I do this, this and this. As a map maker I always preffered to make things random just because its fun to say know 20 lv 7's guard a Dragon Utopia by you, but to go there and find 20 archangels 1 game or 20 hydras the next. that alone adds replay value and doesnt make you do the same thing, because certain things work vs certain creatures.

well guess my point is if a variety of maps was played then most things on a map that are "needed" to be fixed after the map has been out for months or years wouldnt be there.

JB have you ever played 7 lakes? only orange and purple colors are set everything else is random, and that map is so nonrepetitive that most TOH maps will never get the same replayability.

All we are talking about here is how to make it even more playable. All that map needs is a few adjustments, and taking any of those AI towns is not a guarantee. You might as well end up losing your hero and army week 1.

purple and orange

Perhaps it would have been a good idea to give orange and purple a hero with enough troops to guard their towns so it would be hard to take the first weeks?
Another thing that would make it harder to take them early is to let them have castle built...
Though it works good now it may work better

Certain types of maps...

JB: You meake certain types of maps very well, but for me, the difference between 20 hydras and 20 AA is not that significant. Sure, i'll probably need resurrect vs the AA's much more than vs the hydras, but the way you play that kind of map doesn't change much. You send a scout to see what is guarding early as you can and either hit it later or right away depending on guards, however- the rest of the map you play the same. 7 Lakes is much more variety, but even on it there are certain patterns that inevietably get played out. I really finding myself enjoying scout wars alot when a map with many portals on it. Or maps with so many towns the only way to succeded is to build more than one town and army, possibly as many as 4, I usually build up 3 towns on 7 Lakes, finish an AI town and always build either a stronghold or castle if I didn't start with it, then I might build a fortress, but I prefer stronghold and castle because those 7ths are quick to get and very useful, AA's fasted, and Behomoths 80% defense reduction very useful in battles, plus they cheapest 7th to get.

Adding prebuilt castles to orange and purple would help somehat, but still not solve problem of orange abandoning his town so often.

7 lakes

7 lakes as always been my favorite map.  It has slightly changed since it was first rebrought to life from an HOMM2 version, not always for the better of it.  Nevertheless the actual version of it in toh`s map site is still very satisfying.  I do think that it would be a better map if Orange was inferno instead of necro.  Being able to play first in a fight is much more important than the quality of your troops.   As of the actual version of 7 lakes, red and tan have pretty much even odds.  By setting Orange`s castle to inferno it would bring blue and green competitive.

Orange and Purple don`t need heroes with strong troops to avoid losing their castles in the first week if you use harder difficulty settings.  Changing the difficutly setting is a great way to rediscover and enjoy and otherwise overplayed map.

I`m still surprised to read about might versus magic hero -who`s the best - polemic...  Both can be very good if you use them for what they were designed to do.  :-)

oh yes we are talking about playing it on Impossible (200%)..

I sort of assumed everyone was playing it the same way. This was you are able to buy your second hero only day 2 id you are lucky, and few more lv 1s and another hero later in the week. Meanwhile orange and purple will have lv6 by the time you get to their town, and if they are still there then you are more likely to lose your army then to take their town then.
