New player, detaily questions

1)I found listings of creature combat movement at Portals -- very useful info!  Is there any way to view this in the game?

2) I've had major heroes killed by what I thought were insignificant Medusa stacks.  How is the chance to stone calculated?  I'd like to have a tactical approach to defending against this rather than "restart battle if hero is stoned, repeat until Medusae killed."

3) How does Angels' resurrection work?

4) The manual reads, "Tight formation: although this formation allows you to protect weaker troops with a hero's Tactics skill, it allows several troops to be attacked by a single area-affect attack."
How exactly does a formation allow one to protect weaker troops with Tactics?

I was going to ask about the Defender spell, but learned enough of interest while trying to figure it out to write a post of my own about it!

Hi. I don't have an answer to everything you're asking, but I'm sure I've seen someone in the community writing about how the chance for stonegaze is calculated . I'll give you the information if I see it again soon.

The angels can, if a some troops have died, ressurect an ally, i.e recover a set amount of Hp to the target.

How much Hp is calculated by the number of angels casting the spell.

Right click on your creature portraits in the adventure screeen or the creatures themselves in the battle screen. That should bring up their stats.

put your heroes in the back row of combat (every second slot when arranging your creatures. and use the tight formation. The ranged units shouldn't be able to hit the back row then.

When its the angels go, the cast spell button should be accessible. Click that to open up the angel's spellbook. There should be a description of the resurrection spell there if you right click on the spell. Left click to select the spell then target your stack to be resurrected.

Putting your weak troops in the back row and using the tight formation will mean that they cannot be attacked by ranged units (except cyclopses, which have an area attack), and direct damage spells, because these require line of sight.

I hope these answers helped.

cheers.

I guess that sounded like a silly question.  The frustration I've been having is that I can't find a way to view a creature's combat movement outside of combat mode.  Right-clicking on a creature in the adventure, town, or army screens only shows the map movement, but it's more the combat movement that matters to me.

Makes sense, thanks.  I'm hoping to work out how the actual chance is calculated, so I can better gague the costs and benefits of advancing with a front line unit possibly leaving a hero uncovered for a round.  For example is the chance based on total damage done (ie higher Defense would help), or is it a fixed % per Medusa in the stack (ie Defense is of no use)?

I've got that worked out -- I'm more wondering what determines how many HPs worth of creature you can resurrect per Angel?

Tactics is a way of protecting troops regardless of formation, and tight formation is a way of protecting troops regardless of Tactics.  Is that all there is to say about it (and the manual is wonky above)?

From the phrasing it sounded like creatures get more Tactics benefit from being in closer proximity to the Tactics hero.  Maybe this is a leftover from an earlier incarnation of the game...
