I think the best creature is the Fairy Dragon.

It can cast 3 extremely powerful damage spells, Fireball, Fire Ring, and my favorite, Lightning.  And if your opponent has a particularly annoying creature, you can use confusion to remove the threat.  Add that to decent hit points, great speed, and average combat skills if attacked, and you get one of the best creatures in the game.

Don't they just look so weird and funny standing on their hind leg when casting a spell?

Erm... yes.  Almost unnatural...

Also, when you pass your cursor over them in combat, and they roar and fade out.  I thought that was a nice touch.

I agree that the fairy dragon is so powerful but he's not so effective on magic resistant creatures, so i think that the phoenix is better coz he can cast rebirth on himself which make him a very powerful creature. But in general i like the vampires a lot coz when you have about 100 of them, they become unbeatable they can easly defeat about 30 fairy dragons without even losing anyone of them!

Yeah, vampires are good...  but if you can get them down in numbers quickly enough, they aren't much of a threat.  For example, by the time the necropolis can get 100 vampires, enough time has passed for another player to get some very nice ranged and spellcasting troops.  Even if necromancy is used, vampires can be dealt with in large numbers, just use extreme caution.

But yes, vampires are excellent in their life-stealing ability as well.  If you can get vampires in even just the high twenties and bigger, they have so many hit points that after a life drain, so many have come back with all 95(?) hit points that they become a pain.  Staple in my Necromancer armies. Hehehe...

I think Black Dragons are the best not for the obvious reasons but for the fact that they are immune to all magic.

I couldn't agree more. The vampires have been a constant threat to any living being on the faces of Erathia and Axeoth. They are versatile, extremely fast and...well, have stopped saying "Bla!" in 4, but are still acceptable...

One question...what good would a stack of Vampires imbued with Aura of Fear do against a stack of Medusas?

my favourite by far is venom spawn,
put 30-40 of them in a castle elevate them on a tower and voila you are victorious no matter what your opponent has...(well ok it is not going to work if your opponent has 20-30 devils but he is going to have lots of casualties)

the poison is deadly.

i also like the waspworts and i was curious why nobody mentioned anyone of theese two in this thread.

I like vamps!!!! Their life drain certainly makes them imba. Their speed n movement is oso very good. They r oso undeads so many annoying spells n special ablities will have no effect on them n grandmaster necromancy can raise many vampire. Although their greatness, growth n cost betray them. =.=

Everyone loves a Black Dragon eh? They can easily be beaten with a bit of planning just like any creature tho.

For me it's got to be the Cyclops. Just the simple fact that at times you can kill two opposing heroes in one turn that are standing together is great. It can not only attack multiple targets but those bits of rock can really hurt!

And fortunately magic resistance is useless against it. Those poor Black Dragons
