How has HC changed your mind about HOMM?

How has HC influenced your thoughts or opinions about Heroes? There are many posters who like to post threads that are like ‘spoilers,’ meaning that it gives away info on the new heroes game. I have chosen a town that I like, which is Asylum, but I didn’t always like Asylum, the first town that I decided to use regularly was Stronghold. That was ages ago, not all the town info had come out and I thought Stronghold was a clear winner over the rest. Then after visiting and posting my opinions and learning others, I realised that Asylum was the way to go. I liked their creatures, I liked their snapshots and I liked their magic, and Stronghold turned out to be less powerful then it first seemed.

As for HOMM3, it was nearly the same. I started out playing Tower. They were strong, but they cost a lot. Then I decided to make the journey over to the Dungeon castle who was a little stronger than the average town. I could win easily against the computer but it was very time consuming being Dungeon. I would be spending ages gathering resources to produce even a small group of powerful units capable of taking out other Heroes, but if I decide to try and take over a medium-armed castle with a hero guarding it, I would be up until midnight just gathering resources. I had the patience for that. Why? Because I knew that HOMM3 was a fairly lengthy game like most strategies are, but I tried playing a modem game and it took me weeks to finish. I didn’t have the patience for this. I decided to consult my little HOMM3 handbook and see what town appealed to me. It was between returning to Tower or making the move over to either Fortress or Rampart. Now this is where HC came in to play. I read a thread that had something to do with your favourite town. That was quite useful because people gave their fav town and the reasons. I narrowed it down to either Rampart or Fortress. I pondered over which one to be then I came up with a good idea. Why not just have a match with each of them and time it? The creatures were fairly the same and I was after a fast working group and that is how I became one of the…

FORTRESS FANATICS!

As you can see HC has helped me a lot. It has mainly helped me to pick a town but that is not all. It has given interesting facts in the TOH and the Alter boards and hilarious threads in the Tavern, while it has had a lot of inspirational posters (like myself… just joking!), and a lot of inspirational threads that have been wiped of the site or are still around.

Well, for me it´s an interesting question, because i recognize a slight change in my opinion about how to play heroes and what is the best playing tactic and so on...

I have been playing heroes since the very first beginning, that means, i loved playing Heroes 1, i was looking forward to the second part and its addon.
Since this addon (The price of loyality) i have never favorised another computergame more than Heroes.

With the addon "Amargeddon´s Blade" of Heroes 3, the time,
sitting in front of my computer rose nearly endless, because of the random-map generator.

This new fact gave me the possibility, not only to play
the campaigns and given scenarios multiple times, but
to create uncountable random maps for single-player
and hot-seat action with heroes-fanatics like me.

The fact, that the skill "diplomacy" is the most valuable
in a random map because of the wandering monsters, that will join your army, was posted here for many times.

With the second addon (The shadow of death, which is my favorite of all!) i realized, that nighttime is not only  good for sleeping.

That was the time, when i began to search the internet for other fanatic heroes-players and their experiences and
especially their wishes for Heroes 4.

I thought i was a silly fool, when i read about the favorite towntypes (mostly stronghold and fortress) and heroes(Crack Hack) because in my small heroes-random-map-world, i mostly played with Tower/Cyra, Castle/Adela or Conflux/Brissa, so i couldn´t understand, why these combinations weren´t listed anywhere.

I think, my problem is, i had NEVER played against a human player, but only against this stupid computer.
Although i have played nearly all campaigns / scenarios from
SOD by 200%, i think it´s not comparable with a human-fight.

My wishes for Heroes 4 were mostly related to the map-generator (more individual settings) the available spells
(some new, many old could be deleted) and the artifacts
(more combined artifacts....)

So when the day of Heroes 4 came, no other day since then
was more disapointing for me.
First of all, the random-map generator was deleted, the
heroes-specialties were gone, some new monsters, which i don´t like very much, were integrated and the battlefield-action isn´t easy to follow anymore, etc.,etc.,etc....

I played the first campaign, in the middle of the second
i stopped playing heroes4, deleted it from my computer and installed SOD again.

I think, i have to try an online heroes game against humans, to see if i have knowledge of this game or not. Perhaps someone of you could tell me, how i have to manage this?

Last but not least i would like to say i like this forum very much, because of a lot of different points of view and some information / facts of this game, i didn´t know until now.

P.S. Please excuse my bad english, but i´m german and my schooltime has ended a while ago.

HC have changed my view on HoMM.

I used to play SMAC and Civ2, but now I play HoMM4, so that I can write sensible posts here. And to try out new stuff I learn from 'you guys'.

If it wasnt for HC i would be spending the rest of my heroes playing days using castle and Adela . Thanks to hc and people like Frank and others who like to discuss tactics, i have come to understand the true strength of Homm 3.  That it is balanced in a way that enables the  tactics of any castle type to be thwarted by that of another. So putting the effort into learning them all is worthwhile.

HC has changed my attitude in little ways. Like some of the other replies here, it has changed how I play in that I am more open to trying/learning new town types and not forever playing (these days) Chaos.  I will still never ever though willingly play Barb/might :/

I admit I just play the game, I dont really think about what else might be nice in the game, or what creatures I miss (hence not really posting in other forums) but I read everyones posts in there and theyre pretty kewl (esp enjoy the new creature combination ideas) and it piques my curiousity as to what might be in Homm5

And I like reading everyones strategies.  I dont really have a strategy or think about what am doing, I just do *stuff* - so hearing peoples ideas on say how to use zombies gives me ideas for other things to do with a class type I dont play much.  I think reading everyones strategies and ideas here has made me more open to using more of the different spells too, rather than like in the past limiting myself to DD spells.
