-- Map Ratings --
2 or more months ago, the Player Rating and Popularity Rating were started at the TOH maps page. It was updated one time (1 week after it was started) and was never updated again. Now I know this isn't the most crucial part of TOH, but come on, not updated in 2+ months? At least it should be updated once every 2-3 weeks. I for one am interested in seeing what maps have been popular lately. Not to mention it would be interesting to see the changes in the player ratings from week to week.

more bla bla
Cut and pasted from the valkyrica post:
"Im pretty busy nowadays (then again always was) with dentistry, moving to the new house, taxes, and ftvgirls website bla bla so on so forth."
Each map ratings review and update is done by me manually, and takes 2-3 hours.

I realize you've got a lot of stuff going on but surely you can spare that 2-3 hours once every 3 weeks?
3 weeks = 504 hours

Camel, I've told you this a number of times before, but you've seriously got to learn the meaning of the word tact and then (and here's the crucial part) actually get some.

Camel...
You still don't get it do you? You (kinda rudely) asked ves to update more regularly in the original post then he responded by (politely) saying no because of time. You then questioned whether or not he was telling the truth (quite rudely) and did so again after I hinted that you should drop it.
Ves runs a volunteer site here. How much time he spends on it is up to him, not us. He doesn't owe us anything. If you want to ask something, do it nicely and if he says no/I can't then leave it at that.

LOL sorry psycho - I dont think ves is some kind of fragile vase that needs to be protected
And what did you think i was doing, telling him to update it? I certainly can't make him do anything. I was just hoping he would. It'd even be cool if it was updated only once a month. It just seems pointless to have something and not ever update it (i know, now you're calling me a hypocrite because of my joke of a site that hasnt been updated in over a month )
And about tact - sure it's good to use sometimes. But ves strikes me as a no b.s. guy - I doubt his response would've been much different had i planned my post for a half-hour or something and had employed "tact".

anyways
I will have the ratings up sometime soon. It just requires a lot of calculations, etc. If it was just a map or dozen, no big deal, but there are 50 of them. In a way, procrastinating increases the work, but I had no choice. And I dont think volunteers could take up this, like clans, because there is a lot of little things to be done on my end that arent on volunteers' comps, and would take more time to teach than to do it myself.

another thing - does anyone know whats the formula for calculating rating changes after a toh game?
cuz on gamespy earlier me and a couple other people was discussing how, if i beat someone high enough in my next game (hardest thing is getting that high opponent to play me..) then I could be first person with more than 3 games played to never be a footman - I would go from recruit to squire (at least, I doubt anyone else has done this, but I could of course be wrong )
Right now, w/ 3 games played I have 1102 rating. So I would need to gain 47 points on next game to reach squire... so I was wondering what opponen'ts rating would hafto be

You get +5 points on every 100 points difference. So to get 47 (30+17) you would have to beat someone with +350 points = 1450+ (like me )
Good luck finding one

Rankings Calcs
Scroll down a bit at this link for rankings formulas on the page where the info below was cut from
Points and rankings methodology
All beginning players start with a base score of 1000. Player ratings provide a way to compare the strengths of two players without requiring them to play each other. It is not a competition. The rating system is similar to that used in chess ratings, the higher the rating, the better the player.
Ratings are recalculated after each game, using the following formulae:
Rn=Ro + 30 +0.05*(D) if they win, or Rn=Ro - (20 + 0.05*(D) ) if they lose.
where Rn is the new (post-game) Rating, Ro is the old (pre-game) Rating, and (D)
is the difference between opponents pre-game ratings.
So for example, if a player with a ranking of 1000 beats a player with ranking of 1100, the winner moves up to 1035, the loser moves down to 1075. If the 1100 ranked player beats the 1000 ranked, winner moves up to 1125, loser moves down to 985.
