Hack and Tazar are good choices (objective choice)

But I prefer Valeska and Ciele. (subjective choice)

First I need to clear a point: this is NOT a thread about best hero for TOH tournament, but simply about the best hero in the original game. So this opens a lot of new options.

I can't believe most of you guys ignore logistic specialist. Give me a large map, you play with Tazar, I play with Gunnar. By middle game I will have stats double as yours, while you will have 37% less damage. Maths.

The best hero depends so much from map to map. From style to style. You can have Tazar with 100 defense, if I have Deemer or Solmyr with spell power 15-20, Tazar will never reach my town. I would hit and run him to death, while he needs to touch me, and he cant.I know that TOH pussies will cry on me, but I am sorry guys, magic heroes are into this game to hit and run. Thats is their speciality. And thats the way they were played till some pussies didnt know how to counter them and they created most stupid rules.

How many times I saw Crag Hack pimping on the map with horde Behemots and confident, till he lost most of them to some magic scouts with lightning bolt and a few obsidians...

I dont see the death knight with skeletons speciality. Any day, Tazar will kiss his b$t. If map allows him to specialize well.

Sir Mulich also is great. +2 speed can make a big difference in a battle, even vs Tazar or Mephala.

Do you remeber the famous map Unleasing the Bloodthirsty? Who was the biggest boss there? Thorgrim. He had the 3 resistance artefacts, and you could cast 1000 times a spell, it never worked.

Lets think about a map with a lot of water, like Okeania and many others. I will take every time Sylvia over Tazar boy or Solmyr or whatever.

Lets think about a small map. You take Tazar, who I take? Surprise: Shakti. Come to me, mister Tazar with 15 gnolls, I have 90 troglodytes. And Tazar/Crag Hack need some 10-15 levels to optimize their speciality. I will never let them live so long.

All that I need to point out is that every hero can be beat if you work on a strategy from the beggining. But the logistic heroes can't be beat if they play at same level as you. They are simply too fast.

My vote (medium/large/XL maps) Logistic Heroes!

Yeah, solmyr best, although he is from the costly tower town.

And for the "best secondary hero" discussion i wanna say Learning Heroes or Diplomacy Hero, although this thread is named "Who IS (not "ARE") the best HEROE (not "HEROES") of HMM3?".
I'll just wanna point this for Salamandre

I'd have to vote Crag Hack. I'm not very picky though...Ill take a might hero over a magic hero every time. Even if its Solmyr.

Since I am a HUGE inferno fan, IMHO, the best heroes would have to be either Nymus or Olema.

I find Weakness to be one of the best spells that always tips the battle to your favor, and I seldom use Fortress, so I never use Mirlanda (who has a similar ability to cast that spell at increased effect). And one of the strongest Inferno creatures are Pit Fiends and Pit Lords. So an increase to their already great stats really is helpful. Her name sucks though.

It's because they think this hero (whatever what hero) is the president of them all (it means, that this hero is mightier than an another hero).
Just because better skill levels.

This is a refreshingly interesting post Salamandre.

But do experienced players really underestimate logistic heroes?
I donīt, speed is everything no matter how you play the game..and it specially was in TOH imo.

Can they be beaten? Sure, if Gunnar doesnīt get pathfinding on randoms he wonīt be that fast anymore in the "desert treasure zone".
If any other good hero, be it Hack or whoever, finds speed boots + gloves + logs (just an example...or if he has good stuff around ther corner, whatever) he can easily compete with Gunni.

As you are pointing out, magic heroes need hit and run more often than might heroes. IF i have a superior might hero, i just need to look for things to counter it - and specially on randoms, there should be plenty of possibilities.

It all depends on how well you play, but there are some common mistakes. Like taking Tazar/meph over Hack.
Offense is ALWAYS better than armorer, be it to crush the magic hero before he can wipe you ass with implosion etc..
Be it for hit and run, which can be done by might heroes too (who says you wont have enough gold? specially on randoms you often end up with heaps).
Be it vs the map, where the comp is scared of hitting any big stack of yours because of the retal he will get.

What i also agree with, is that too many rules cripple the game.
But some are simply needed to have fun, i donīt see how a game is worth playing with a cartographer near your town..it takes out all the aspects that make random maps fun.
I would also not like finding the air tome, and use dimension door to port over a mountain or a horde of Black Dragons into my enemies town.
You get the point
