well, I seem to belong to the rare species of people who prefer bracketed style and play their games.

Only mapmaster tourney I've been participating in so far is the BoB2 one. I'm in 3rd round (=semifinals) now and - believe it or not - I've played 2 games. Also, 3 out of 4 games of the quarterfinals have been played so far. The further you advance in a tourney, the more ppl actually interested in playing you will find.

Paying a entrance fee is a brilliant idea, not very new though (actually I was the one who has been proposing it earlier ). Nevertheless, this would be the way to go.

And of course there should be addict style tourneys too. Everybody has his own playing preferences. I for myself don't like them too much, because of my low activity. But they belong to ToH as well.

The concept of Mapmasters makes it more suitable for elimination style though. Only 8 players participating to find out the best player on a map would be a toss? Don't think so.. usually those 8 would be the best on that map anyways.

I agree with the fact that bracketed probably gets the best player as the winner, but if you are happy with 8 players per tourney (an extremely narrow part of the homm community) then good luck. Seems a compromise is in order, and where did I see this converstaion happen before?

might be good to discuss what your arse kicking rules are in this forum to see if they r gonna be strong enuf to influence behaviour...

Also would be good to update results at end of period, within 3 days perhaps, being 1 day for late reports, and 2 days for administrators to find the time. Is that realistic? With a 2 week turn around, waiting over a week for the matchup was annoying, i managed to get the game in time, but was very tight.

Not that hard to figure out whos active & whos not.
Mostly common sense will tell you whos usually plays & a little homework can get you a great bracket tourney & if everyone can take just a little more responsibility, then there shouldnt really be any problems except finding a time from dif time zones.

i'm afraid ironmlh is right, acu's theory doesnt match reality. Brackets requires a high level of commitment and organisation (esp. in my timezone), that doesnt seem to be guaranteed even from regular players. There needs to be sufficient sized "stick" or "carrot" to get a proper commitment.

max 100 points penalty is a big stick i think ppl will play their games lol. I'm too busy to play this time around but i can give tips for playing Blockbuster template which i designed...

First tip:
the common treasure zone is either sand or snow terrain always, thus keep any tower troops u get cuz 50% chance u will need them to move thru snow. On XL the treasure area might be big enough to justify pathfinding skill.

2nd tip:
The size of the block between players, is larger in XL than L. So if u normally play L then switch to XL dont be suprised by size of block

3rd tip:
If u want a fast game, u can play a M map. One of the few templates i tested on M and thought was playable.

I actually think that M is very good on Blockbuster. Bad that u don't participate. Without u this is not real random mapmaster tourney U sure about this decision? one game in two weeks is not so much...

i'm in a theatre production soon, so lots of rehearsals, while still working full time in my day job, so no time at all for an organised tourney

wow it is hard to find that link without your help haile, it should either be on the main page as a hot link in the text advertising the new tourney, or in the tourney page. Dont affect me, but feel sorry for all those poor players who cant join.

well thre is a link on the tournament page. right after the "REGISTRATON OPEN !!!!!!! " - just added a link on main page.

btw a question. is my english really this bad on the rulepage ? i received mails of 3 players so far complaining thatit does not make sense to automatically lose 100 points when joining a tourney becasue they had to win 4 games at least to get em back.

to all you pointhuggers outhere  : YOU DON'T AUTOMATICALLY LOSE 100 POINTS WHEN JOINING - YOU ONLY LOSE EM WHEN YOU REGISTER AND DON'T MOVE UR BUTT TO GET THE GAME PLAYED.

register and play your game and ull see noone gonne steal ur precious points
