Some one has to play Devil's advocate: so Syria next?
well, just a guess.
Now that the Iraqi war is pretty much over. And it really doesn't make too much sense to ship tens of thousands of troops back and forth. So I guess Bush might attack Syria right away.
Syria is not officially on the list of the "axis of evil", but recent accusations from white house suggest that if there is going to be a next hostile action, Syria instead of Iran is more likely to be the target.
It's a wild guess.
But is it?

Secretary of State Colin Powell hinted at possible sanctions against Syria
CNN news:
"We will examine possible measures of a diplomatic, economic or other nature as we move forward," he said. "We are in touch with Syrian authorities."

It's quite easy to see whats going on if you take away the belief that "USA wants peace".
When we play civilization or heroes we don't make peace when we have the advatage. We attack. We conquer.
We win.
We crush, kill and destroy, to gain more resources.
What makes us think that the USA will not do exactly the same as we do?
Think about it...

The title of this thread reminds me of a great Simpsons exchange:
Homer : Marge, may I play Devil's Advocate for a moment?
Marge : OK
(Homer begins playing a pinball game entitled "Devil's Advocate") teehee
As for Syria next? Absolutely not. Bush repeated his Daddy's war, not he gets to repeat his "intellectual" Daddy's conflict and invade Libya.

God help the world if we do. As I stated in the other thread, we're once again perhaps going after a nation we ourselves have supplied with arms.
Anyone would think our politicians are a bunch of mercenary oportunists or something.........

Given the expense of the first war and the difficulty in getting other countries to allow troop buildups, the next war really has to be within easy striking distance from one of the main allies so the possibilities are:
from the US : Cuba. Tempting...
from the UK : France. Very, very tempting, but rumor has it that they've placed explosives on their wine and cheese mines which would make an invasion highly unprofitable.
from Spain : Libya. Oil... Chance to finish the Grand High Dragon Ronald McRaygun's bombimg campaign... Bingo!

I just want to point out that I NAILED that the "next" war was going to be a bombing campaign in Libya. Just took a lot longer than I anticipated.
Although now we can debate if the next next one is Syria.

No Syria. As long as the evil Iranians are progressing with their genocidal plot to develop nuclear energy bombs, they'll remain the focus. Plus - Syria is nearly out of oil, so if it doesn't provoke Israel somehow (which is pretty unlikely to happen any time soon), why bother? Human rights are for p*****s in the international relations.

Stupid oil companies should just cease to exist within a ten year period, giving scientists enought time to come up with a proper replacement once the oil comanies are no longer in the way of progress.
Do Israel/US/Nato even have the right to keep nuclear from the iranians even though I do not like the thought of them having it either. It is like telling a small medieval country that it is not allowed to make weapons to defend itself or improve its agriculture to properly feed its people.
Sometimes I think that maybe it would be for the best to give nukes to all countries and let them have a massive FFA leaving were only Sweden and Switzerland would be left standing.
