I remember playing the original NWN1, without any expansions. I was a rogue with a scythe Ah the fun moments of missing a zombie 7 times in a row while that half orc dude I hired butchers at least 10 of them...
The first half of the game, I was pathetically weak, then I suddenly became the most powerful guy that ever lived. Don't know why. I didn't even need the half orc anymore. Plus all the lock pick, trap and diplomatic skills...
Hysterical.

Hi guys, keep your eyes out for "Mysteries of Westgate" the first Adventure Pack for NWN2 created by Ossian Studios due for release, at this stage, in early February '08.
I scored a job with Ossian Studios 12 months ago as a technical designer so had a hand in creating it.

For me NWN was a big let down, being a fan of BG series I did not enjoy it as much as I hoped.
Then NWN2 came out, promising new things. I have the game, but I did not get much into playing it yet, but I certainly hope that it will be better then its predecessor.

You are right in that the original was a disappointment but considering hordes of the underdark and the countless great modules the game was a success. Nwn2 was better of course though it desperately needs patching before you play it and its interface is inconvenient. The mask of the betrayer expansion is one of the best games I have played, if you liked the second then you should consider getting it.

I have to get through the second first But I've heard good things about the Mask of the Betrayer. I probably should get to playing it again. Still BG is BG, I doubt that I will find an RPG that will top it.

Agreed, the baldur's gate series is hard to surpass. Btw if you have played planescape torment you will be pleasantly surprised by the mask. I loved both bg and torment, these games had quality.

It's quite a shame that I have not yet played Torment I am not proud of that, being an RPG fanatic. When I was younger and stupider I had a chance to play it, but the prospect did not encourage me. Now I regret it and I have a hard time finding the game.
I still replay BG with new mods that give the game a different edge.

Hi,
-* Above quote clearly showes that you haven't played it,Elvin ( NwN1 - Nwn2 - MoTB ) - Demo at Best.*
I am about to enter the ever expanding NwN1 moduels so I don't have time to elaborate ( flames I can't do anything about ) at the moment. But I will surely check this thread a bit more frequently now.
1) Vanilla was a disappointment ?? ... name a few ( taking in to consideratin that all games have their flaws upon release )....
2) Forgot ( or were yo to lazy ) to google SOU ?
3) Quote: Nwn2 was better of course ...
Say's who ? ( Dont get me wrong, I like it, but that was a rather "not-though-through" remark Imho.

No actually I have played all nwn games except for the premium modules. When I say the original was a disappointment I am talking of course compared to baldur's gate and it's single campaign.
No party anymore, just a henchman that cannot even be controlled.
Dialogues lack the depth. Considering there is no party there is no chance to hear your companions converse with each other nor do they help you in conversations.
No talking sword
The story was not really captivating.
Memorable characters..? Just Aribeth.
Ending? No ending really. Cheapness.
Yes it was fun but not even close to baldur's gate. SoU has much better but I did not mention it because I find HotU a level above.
Nwn2 was better for several reasons. It has a sense of humour, not bland dialogues. Has a storyline and plot that the original missed, it looked too simplified. Companions' uses have increased and who you have in party at each time will make your game different - taunt, diplomacy come to mind. Different side quests or dialogue trees open up. According to the plot some become unavailable in contrast to I will choose 'x' no matter what because I feel like it - they have their agendas and interests. Influence system improved and there are choices to be made, you can't just have good influence with all. The crossroad quest and the trial were brilliant, the original does not have something close to them.
Amongst other reasons.
Yes there were bugs(until a certain patch), the interface was not user friendly and the camera annoying but these you can get used to and the overall experience was rewarding.

I've played the original NWN1, but I didn't get too far because all my objects and, well, everything just disappeared for no reason whatsoever. I have the expansions and even NWN2, but I don't play much...

The last NWN 1 patch (1.69) is now available! It has a huge list of new features and bug fixes that is comparable to that of an expansion! (however, no new campaigns). Basically, all the Premium Module stuff (again, except modules!) has been integrated in this patch, and even MORE!
Some hot features:Quote: Rideable horses!
New Purple Dragon Knight Prestige Class
8 New Tilesets
15 New Music Tracks
14 New Ambient Sounds
New Creatures (over 100 new appearances)
New Placeables (nearly 350)
New Doors ( 15 Generic Doors + 71 Tileset Specific Doors)
New Visual Effects (over 100)
New Armor Part Appearances (lots)
New Weapon Part Appearances
Get it here.
NOTE: it is around 300 MB!
EDIT: Of course, to experience the new stuff you need to play some modules built with 1.69. The existing campaigns won't have any of the new goodies

Yeah. I finally got the patch!!! Awesome. Just awesome. Don't download it using the game update. Get the critical rebuild. That way you won't spend so much time realizing it won't take. And you can back it up on CD with the Critical Rebuild exe.
It took me a long time to get, but 1.69 looks well worth it!

I also use the critical rebuild version all the time (I hate automatic updates) because I like to have the patch saved somewhere so that I won't have to re-update when I re-install a game (not to mention the servers could go down and after re-installing I'll have no patch anymore)

The patch looks like it'll keep NWN1 alive for a long time to come. There is so much stuff included with it. I'm very impressed with what it can do. And it's true. It's like the 4th installment to NWN1.
