Whirlpool damage

I'm looking for information on the amount and type of damage that whirlpools give in HOMM4.    I know that in HOMM3 it was different (some amount of weakest stack, and so one could trick it into taking only 1 halfling or some such).

I seem to recall that it takes 10% of each stack -- is that correct?

Is the 10% rounded up or down?   I.e. how much from a stack of 1, 2, 3, ... , 10?   Always 1? or none up to stack size 4?

I know that a single hero does not get eaten up -- don't think he takes damage either.   That makes thieves very good for bouncing around via whirlpools.

Is there any artifact that protects from whirlpool damage?  I seem to recall one in HOMM3.

[I have done a scan for threads with whirlpool in the message using Google, and all I came up with were things in planning stages for HOMM5.   That surprises me.  Did I search wrong in some way?   Google, restrict to domain heroescommunity.com, include words whirlpool & damage.

I think it takes 1 of every stack...if I remember well...
which is not so good IMO...but is not to much either...

10% is not 10%

If you have 10 level 4's in a stack it will eat 1.
if you have 5 level 4's it will eat one
if you have 1 level 4 it will die
if you have 5 groups of 1 level 4 they will die
so my guess is it has a minimum of 1 level 4 creature

that is nasty

with level 3's it works pretty much the same way, but i think it'll eat a minimum of 2

Heroes lose 10% of their health

What you say makes it sound like 10% of *EACH* stack, rounded *UP*.   That is nasty.

Does anyone know if there is anything to reduce the damage?  E.g. That Seafarer's hat (whatever the proper name is)?  Or grandmaster seamanship?

I got to the point where I had to do the whirlpool jump with forces, and took careful records of what happened.  I can confirm that it is 10% of each stack, rounded up (except for heros who lose 10% of health).  So my stack of 243 medusas lost 25 etc.

And I can also confirm that neither the seafarer's hat nor logbook nor grandmaster seamanship helped reduce the damage.
