What is Wake of Gods?

Hi there. Can someone explain to me what Wake of Gods is? I haven't seen it in any stores. I gather it is for HOMM3 as a user based expansion? Is it an actual game? What is the deal?

Thanks.

Yes, "In the Wake of Gods" is a user-made expansion for Heroes III: SoD (or H3 Complete, or Heroes Platinum). You must have one of those games installed to use it, but the expansion is completely free and can be downloaded from the official Wake of Gods site http://strategyplanet.com/homm/wog/.

WoG adds a scripting language (called ERM) to Heroes III, as well as some new features and new creatures (most of which are created by combining or recolouring existing creatures). It also adds new objects to the editor, including "blank" objects that can be used for decoration or scripted.

One of the biggest new features of WoG is Commanders which are a special unit that accompanies each hero. Commanders gain experience and skills but fight on the battlefield like regular units (getting the attack and defense bonus like normal monster stacks).

With WoG version 3.57 (and the latest, 3.57f), a full option screen was added with several pages of new options. Most of these are scripts written with ERM. Some scripts are for new objects and some change the way the game plays in subtle or less subtle ways, such as enhancing artifacts or skills with new bonuses, changing the "week of" events to make every one of them a week of monsters (including the option of true wandering monsters), and even scripts that rebalance the abilities of many of the heroes and creatures in the game.

To use these options, you must choose to "Wogify" a map (from the WoG options screen), which is a process that occurs just after the map loads and may take a few seconds or a few minutes, depending on size of map, number of options selected and speed of your computer. Random maps generated in the game or the SoD map editor are wogified by default (you can't generate a random map in the WoG editor itself but you could import one).

In addition to WoGification, there are custom WoG maps made using new creatures, objects, and scripting, and there are several campaigns included with WoG, although some of these are very puzzle-oriented and not to everyone's taste. There are some user-made WoG maps available on the WoG site, Celestial Heavens and MapHaven too.

In order to install the latest version of WoG, you need to install SoD and then WoG 3.56 followed by the 3.57 update and the 3.57f patch (which corrects a number of bugs, especially multiplayer, and adds a couple of new features to 3.57).

You can find more information on the WoG site.

Thanks.

I got it to work. I tried to play the game, but, well, I am going to start a new thread about that aspect.

One thing here is that when I downloaded it, the "allinone" one worked fine, but then I couldn't figure out what to do with the patch that I downloaded with the Commanders. I tried double clicking on it and that didn't seem to work, and the GameUpdate, as suggested on the web site, didn't work. Do I need to put it in a specific directory or what? I am a bit confused about this.

I am, however, glad to have got it to work, and had some fun playing around with it this morning before work. I'll write about that in another thread.

So good to finally get it to work! I had first seen it when I looked up "Heroes of Might and Magic" on the internet in 2000 I think (?) and was trying to find somewhere to buy HOMM3 . I ended up finding Wake of Gods then, downloaded it, and the darn thing didn't work. That, of course, was because I didn't have any version of HOMM3 at the time

You need to put the 3.57 patch in the Update directory in your HoMM3 directory. Then you run the update program, and you should know what to do next.

Sorry if I am wrong here, but when I downloaded 3.50 there were a lot of unpacked files for another H3 mod - a completely different stuff than WoG. I visited the French site and all, but I'm still not sure how to install this one. The one thing I understand is it is not compatible with WoG.

According to Slava, it comes from the Album: Vangelis - A tribute to El Greco
Movements - I, II, II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X (Epilogue)
 CD: 1998, Warner Music UK

One of the "Movements" is the WoG title screen music.

Well, the Blood Dragon is Pink for one thing....the newer one has a lot more Red to it. The Diamond Dragon could almost be confused with the Azure Dragon. The newer Diamond Dragon will have more distinctive color to it, truly separating it from the look of the Azure. The newer Hydra will be a more colorful creature as well. Of course, these are still in the testing stages, but they could replace the older ones.
Newer creatures are also being drawn. But as stated by many other WoG members on the team, it takes a lot of hard work to make them. It's just not that easy to do. But work is moving along in that department.
It's nice to "improve" the look of some of the Level 8 creatures. Some needed it all along, and so we're doing what we can to make the appearance even better.
The Santa Gremlin...?? What can I say except.Ho! Ho! Ho! Nothing has been addressed according to this creature.
In all aspects of WoG, everything from scripts to Commanders, from Graphics to coding, everything is moving along pretty good and as could be expected.

I understand now, as for new creatures why not have giant animals eg. Spiders, snakes, scorpians, squids, etc.
Or maybe robots or cyborgs
