I've been here almost as long as woock as well. I registered on August 7 of 2001 and Woock registered on July 5, 2001. I feel so ripped off.

What do you mean, 3 years. My presence in HC didn't reach two years yet, Echo  . And about me being called a long-term member and you guys (Echo and MMage)... Well, I guess it's all about how you let the people know you're there .

i disagree with most of ya
Just look at the threads in this forum now, front page.
5 of em are games (most of em old, or are just a follow up from an older thread)
7 of em are old threads or are similiar to stuff made before.
Then the rest "new good" stuff is threads about for example "toothaches" and "who likes fishing".
Sure the members comes and goes but some of them aint easy to replace because they have such an creativity in starting new threads that actually works (and no, i do not concider threads about toothaches one of those...).
I think HC was alot better a year ago because of the threads that were nice, but also some members that havent been "replaced".
Members like Cat, Oldtimer and Bort... the toss squad... i could mention many whos character i dont think have been replaced one way or another.
so IMO this place was better a year ago.

Time in HC needs to be expressed in B4 and A4. (Before H4 and After H4)
B4 this place was hopping, alot of people were excited about the new game and would hang out here with great ideas and a playful attitude. Alot of creativity and alot more activity.
BOOM
H4
A4 alot of regulars left in droves, because the game was sub standard. Some of us tried to keep others posting by having fun in the tavern, but the interest evaporated because H4 couldn't maintain interest. Some of the B4 members still hang out vainly hoping that this place could be a fun as it used to be. We hold our tounges and try not to flame every new nincompoop that posts a lame thread. We check the online list looking for friends, but knowing that they are gone forever.
We lurk in the shadows...

that may well be the case Ot...
but I ask you, is it not up to us to make HC interesting? ...and no, I don't mean newbie bashing to make "stupid" threads go away... when I joined HC people accepted me and most of them offered me a hand... maybe it had to do something with the fact I never created a "hi I'm new" thread...
sure, HoMM4 deflated all the excitement in this forum but this doesn't explain what happened... some of the known posters left for personal or RL reasons... nothing could be done about that... don't be too sure they left forever though...
what I'm trying to say old man, is that we can make HC a great place to be... all we have to do is try... heck, I spent to much time here to abandon all hope... ...even after I resign from being a Mod, I will still visit so I do want HC to be fun

Being one of the "old guys" too, I wouldn't say that much has changed for me in the past year. About 2 years ago, everything was new and pretty exciting for me. Actually I was interested in stories and strategies about HoMM III, but the tavern was nice too.
After some time, the smell of the new kinda vanished (along with some of the posters) and after some months I didn't even bother to visit the tavern regularly, because I've seen most topics repeating. I think it lies in the nature of things: the tavern has always been a place for small talk and small talk topics are somewhat limited.
Checking HC several minutes per day has become a nice routine for me, but I think people shouldn't expect too much from it. After all, a message board is just a board for messages

...are you sure? I've heard that Heroes 4 was one of the major detractions for former posters because it was seen as "disappointing" and "crappy". Heck not, H4 was'nt a bad game after all!

Kinda reminds me of my story... When I found HC, I just lurked around, reading good threads. But one day I just wanted to join the conversation - "post reply"... and whack! I'm not registered . So I registered, hurriedly picked random avatars from the list, waiting for one that'd suit me, and voila! I picked this one . I never even thought about making a "Hi!" thread. Bah, it was a good few months after me registering when I posted my first thread lol. Anyone remember what that was lol? The one thing I avoided was posting things that might offend or annoy anyone. Unka Haakon even promised me, that if he was a moderator, he'd give me a QP - just because he considered me one of the most polite members of HC - I used to be the youngest when he said that lol. Anyway, he became a moderator and did give me a QP. Boy, do I miss that guy... Anyway, I also got a -QP once . Boy, am I proud of that one lol. I remember every word of that post . Hey, maybe I should write a book called "How to gain respect on discussion boards effortlessly"? ROTFL

well stiven,why not go make urself some new "nice" threads with some of your very own "quality" posts in them and replace the threads about fish and teeth with some your very own "nice","creative","quality" threads
