Kyrre.....Man or Woman
If anyone has noticed that Kyrre is back in heroes 4 then they might have noticed that he/she is now a man. In Kyree's Heroes 3 bio it refers to her as a woman, but if you play the map called battle of the sexes you can't choose him unless you start with the men.

Hmmm.. Interesting.... Now let's look at Heroes IV, ok ?
Bio: Kyrre volunteers for every scouting mission, often vanishing from camp for days at a time to watch the borders. He is drawn to the solitude of the wilderness where he can study the plants and animals and bask in the peaceful silence.
Conclusion: Surgery can do miracles ! (Even in Heroes series)... I wonder how much Gp Kyrre paid for his/her sex change surgery...

Maybe we're talking about two different heroes. They could be husband and wife: the Kyrres 
About the "Female elf vs. his ability to navigate ..." in Kyrre's H3 biography, there's a manual eratta (or errata) in which the authors specify that Kyrre is actually a woman.
My guess is that Kyrre's portrait was initially supposed to be that of a man, that's why the NWC guys were stuck with the impression that she is a male, and forgot about her bio when they rewrote it for Heroes IV.

I've often wondered how this could be... Kyrre, a woman...not the finest woman around, to say the least
Perhaps there is a story to be told here....and why yes - there is! :
As a young Elf, Kyrree knew right away that he was different than the other boys. They would run and play in the wide open fields, wrestling and playing as boys do. Kyrree found himself notice as time went by, that he really enjoyed the wrestling. He caught himself noticing the way the other boy elves were developing the way their young muscles rippled as they played.
As they entered their young teens, the boys went out hunting together and came upon a clearing filled with Pegasi - Kyree's eyes started to brim with tears at the sight of the sun glinting off their silvery wings.
"Kyrre!! Snap out of it you freak!" Ivor shouted.
Kyrre's attention was diverted back to the group, who were firing arrows relentlessly at their foes - a swarm of screeching harpy hags had descended on the playful pegasi.
"Nooooooo!" kyrre cried, his eyes overflowing with tears as he saw one of the Pegasi fall to the ground, wounded. He ran to her, stroking her long neck and weeping softly. He looked up at the Harpies, and found himself feeling somewhat envious of their nicely shaped breasts.
"Kyree, you freak!! You can't save her, help us!" Clancy cried.
Feeling dazed, Kyrree took up his bow and his arrows sang with the others'. Soon the Harpies fled, but two of the Pegasi had perished. Kyree wept miserably. The others celebrated their victory, and called for Kyrre to join them.
Soon everyone was slapping each other on the back and praising one another, and Kyrre found himself doing the inexplicable. As Ivor reached out to give him a manly hug, Kyrre grabbed his butt - and gave it a noticable squeeze.
"What the hell was that?! He felt me up!" Ivor yelled.
There was a moment of stunned silence as the others looked at Kyrre in shock, in that brief moment one thought came to Kyrre "run!"
And so Kyrre ran, and ran fast - the others gave chase for a while, but quickly grew tired as it seemed Kyrre seemed only to go faster.
The next day, he went back to speak with Gelu.
"Gelu... this may seem a stange question - but do you know of any way that I could become a girl?" Kyrre asked meekly.
Gelu bit his lip, he was stunned - and a bit creeped out by the question.
"Uhm... well... no. I really don't - and, erm..." he stammered.
Suddenly Kyrre's elvish ears picked up the sound of trouble "The boys!" he cried, as he dashed out the door.
Gelu scratched his head and looked mighty thoughtful "That may have been the strangest moment of my life" he muttered, not knowing yet of the adventure he would one day embark on.
As the days passed, Kyrre spent more and more of his time running from the others. He knew that all they wanted was a chance to beat him soundly just once - then it all would be forgotten; but he still wasn't about to let that happen. As time went on, Kyrre realized that he was able to run much faster, and for far longer than any of the other elves; he was greatful for this, it certainly saved his bacon.
One day, after running for several hours, he finally stopped - exhausted - and slumped down in a quiet grotto.
"What's wrong with me?" he wondered sadly. "All the others spend all their time admiring Mephala.. I wish only to be her - to have her fair face, and soft womanly body... WHY?! Why can't it be me"
"Perhaps it could be you little elf" A small voice crackled from a nearby hut.
"Who's there?" Kyrre called out, suddenly feeling frightened.
A small witch came out from behind a tree, she moved slowly as she hunched over her crooked walking stick.
"Come with me my child" she rasped.
Kyrre obediently followed the witch to her hut, he wasn't yet sure if he could trust her, but lately he had no friends elsewhere anyways, so he felt he had nothing to lose.
They sat down at a table that was far too small for him, and his legs splayed out uncomfortably.
"Kyrre, I have been watching you" the old hag began, "I have seen the way you run.. and run - it impresses me. I will make a trade with you, and perhaps life for you will not be so hard and lonely. I want to take from you this gift of speed - so that I may be the only witch in the lands that can teach it - in return I will transform you into a female"
Kyrre jumped from his seat excitedly "Can you really do it!?" he exclaimed. His joy was fleeting however, as he realized that coming back to the village as a girl would surely not lead to an instant fix for him.. in fact it may make him even more the outcast.
As if reading his mind, the witch replied "I can cast a spell on all those who see you, which will imediately erase any memory that you were once male"
Kyree's heart soared "Let's do it!" he said, laughing gleefully.
The witch laid her gnarled old hands over Kyrre's face, and began to chant. Kyrre could feel the pressure as all that he knew of speed was being extracted from his mind - and then something else. A strange warming sensation covered his body. In some places he felt some shrinking, then disappearing - and in others there was new growth. He put his hands to his chest and exclaimed "Yes!" as the old witch removed her hands.
"It is done Kyrre, and I have left you with your skills - naming you as a specialist in logistics, continue to run, and as they see you and wish to be like you... send them to me"
Kyrre nodded happily, and asked politely if she could use a mirror.
"ahhh!" she gasped "I'm hideous!"
The witch looked hurt " I can only do so much with a face such as yours... but at least you are a girl"
Kyree went back to the village, and found she was accepted with no troubles as female - true to the witches promise, no one had any inkling that she was once a boy. Of course, she was still the ugliest girl around - and she had to make a point not to stand too close to Mephala or Jenova, or else she would look even that much more nasty - but still Kyrre was finally a girl, and that was just fine with her.
So there you have it, the true story of Kyrre

Gosh, now I'm feeling a bit pressured to come up with a good sequel. It'll be tough considering my knowledge of Heroes4 is limited...
I suppose I could've said he switched back going through the vortex from Erathia to Axeoth, but that's just tooooo easy
