Why too much? Take Apocalyptica for example - a wholly crazy mix of violins and (something like) metal.
And as for that Tarja cannot sing - why have you mentioned opera then? 
But in fact I agree that their last album (Century Child) is a little bit... ehm... pop-like

Ofc it's pop-like - it's power-metal! I mean, even I make harder sounds on the guitar, and i don't even know any chords! And I sing better too...

Go search for them if you like heavy metal (all except hanoi rocks, which is just rock)!
