my fav RPG's of all time are mostly on genesis

Phantasy Star 4
Best RPG EVER! Recently bought it off ebay

Phantasy Star 3
(you went through some 5-6 generations and it took place 1000 or 2000 years after Phantasy Star 4, but you would choose who to marry and it would affect your child who you became between chapters) Try it out, I would play it today if it wasnt stolen. crude graphics though compaired to 4

Shinning force 2
Sweet chess style RPG, (there is a battle where you actually fight chess pieces. kind of ironic)

Shinning force
Sweet game, plays through 9 Chapters I think

Final Fantasy 1
Sweet game, nice and short but full of challenges, you can choose your characters to take through the game (6 choices) or you can do like I did, and choose 1 character and 3 duds, you get the 3 duds killed off at the beggining and you play the game through with 1 character, makes things very (and by very I mean Extreamly) difficult.

some people never learn...

01. Planescape: Torment (best RPG -ever-)
02. Legacy of Kain (all 5, maybe without Blood Omen 2)
03. Neverwinter Nights (can't beat modularity)
04. Icewind Dale (series, no i never played BG)
05. Final Fantasy VII / Septerra Core (similar themes)

and a few not so friendly notes...

Diablo series were never RPG, unless your definition of RPG involves dungeoncrawling, hacking and slashing

Might and Magic... well, lets just say the only redeeming values of the series is HoMM and maybe the music ...I still can't understand how people stand to play these games without emptying their stomachs all over the monitor ...the world would be a better place without Might and Magic

Man, a lot of you people sure have no clue what constitutes an RPG. HOMM???

Only one freaking mention to the Elder Scrolls series? What's that about?

Daggerfall rocks. Best RPG I ever played.

Hi everyone, I'd like to place a question for all of the rpg lovers out there, ¿which are the best five rpgs you've ever played?. Here's my list:
1- Lands of Lore, The Throne of Chaos.
2- Diablo 1.
3- M&MVII, For Blood and Honor.
4- Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2.
5- Fallout 1 and 2.

Of course, Lands of Lore and Eye of the Beholder can never be compared to the other three if we talk about graphics, AI or music. But those games will always have a special place in my heart because of their gameplay, story and cute graphics. Besides, the Beholder, Scotia and Dran Draggore are three of the most interesting foes I've seen in rpgs. I will always play new rpgs, and I'm sure that I will love many of them; but the feeling I had when I played The Throne of Chaos or The Legend of Darkmoon, with their great atmosfere and rich stories, will never be repeated. Let me know what you think, bye!

1.Diablo I,II
2.Baldur's gate
3.Arcanum
4.Nox
5.Fallout 1 and 2

I am really disturbed by the lack of Chrono Trigger in most of these lists.

Anyway, mine would be

1. Chrono Trigger (You CANNOT beat Frog.)
2. Final Fantasy VI (Bring back Espers, posthaste!)
3. Final Fantasy Tactics (Fond, fond memories...)
4. Fire Emblem (Though it is moreso Strategy, it does have RPG elements integrated in very nicely)
5. Final Fantasy VII (An overrated game by far, but great nonetheless.)

3rd : NWN

Nice graphics, interesting storyline and many interesting character classes

4th : Elder Scrolls III Morrowind

Nice graphics, mediocre storyline and many interesting features [ although i was unable to have a better view at that time ]

5th : LotR the Third Age [ PS2 ]

How come noone has mentioned Starcontrol 2?
1) Starcontrol 2
2) King's Bounty (the first in HOMM3 series and the closest one to an RPG)
3) Amm... seeing how many people list games that are really far from RPGs here, I will nominate Unreal Tounament. Yeah, you can roleplay it, you just have to try REAL REAL hard... like instead of minigunning that dude who's trying to flak your ass to pieces, ask him "hail, kind sir IpWnj00a$$n00b, how art thou this fine evening? Wouldst thou likest to join me for a fine keg'o'health?"

Hehehehe, I miss Unreal Tournament. I suppose the closest aspect of UT to roleplaying would be those allied games like Defender or Capture the Flag. The AI bots were fun to play with; you could select your allied bots to attack or defend or hold their positions.

I always used to name my bot teammates after real-life people I hung out with. It kinda added a depth to emotion aspect of playing UT that wouldn't have been there had I not done that.

1. Betrayal at Krondor - I'm surprised that noone has mentioned this one yet. A classic with the greatest story in a RPG...
2. Baldur's Gate II
3.Knight's of the Old Republic II - I was a bit sceptical about this one but it turned out to be truly a great game...I recomend it.
4.Gothic-the thing i liked here was the freelance ability
5.Neverwinter Night's - didn't like this game too much...It has many faults but overall it is quite good.

Also i'd like to mention Wizardry 8 which i just started playing recently and it seem quite good and may push NWN out of it's spot...

what about "return to krondor". great game and book, also krondor the assassins looked good but i never read it

has anyone mentioned darkstone. i consider that a pretty good RPG. it is said to be one of the well made diablo rip offs. i liked the game. i never got to the last pieces of armour or weapons, and the story chages each time so u can play it over and over
