The Way HOMM4's Battles SHOULD BE!!

hey, alright i want to have castles built up to the top with kick ass creatures....

also, the battles in Heroes Of Might And Magic games all suck.... anyway, if you've seen the beggining of Gladiator where the Barbarians come out of the forests and all collide with the Romans.. and blood and fire are scattered everywhere.. then you would know what im talking about.. to get to my point, THATS THE WAY I WANT THE BATTLES TO BE, just like in the beggiging of Gladiator!

that would be kick ass.. to see Titans come out and move the trees outta the way with their hands.. and all arrows flying at one time their enemies side, have swords go right through individual creatues, have angels and devils fly all around in the sky, and to have catapaults and ballistas to release ammo thats on fire..  

Now how kick ass would that be?!

Real Time Combat!

Have real-time combat in HOMM4!  At the beginning of the battle you give orders to all your units, like: Attack the Wyverns.  Wheen they're dead go after the Basilisks, then the Hydra.  Or: Stand by the Liches and attack the largest enemy stack adjacent to them.

Well that would be good for an FPS (Doom style) game I suggest Serious Sam, it has flying harpies, and a werebull that takes out everything that gets in its way

Oh yeah.... and play it at the serious level

Those ideas would be nice if heroes was 3D or maybe good for some videos, but a 3D of Heroes with cool graphics ==> less creatures and less towns, at least this is what 3DO claims (cool graphics, we had to make less creatures, but they will be unique). These are not their words, but it is their claim.

Hell yeah, 3D, and plus you get to play as one creature or even a general.. and plus every creature moves at once to battle... hey, we should even have a wiseman to use spells during the combat while you fight....

No RTS!  Heroes strategy game!  Heroes turn-based!  Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I think Heroes is good they way it is.  The terrain and battlefield will now be 3D (have you seen the pics?), and even have rivers and stuff in them.  But having every creature go at once is wierd and hard.  The only way for that to work would be RTS.  If I want RTS I'll play Warcraft 3 or Starcraft.


An opening sequence with the Titans coming through the trees would be cool.  I just don't see how they could do it in battle.

I am NOT suggesting that HOMM4 should be RTS.  As stated previously, I hate RTS.  What I'm saying is that real-time COMBAT would be cool.  There is a difference.

I dont want it to be like gladiators fights or bravehearts or any other bloody movie, its a turn based strategy game what you see is what you get!

If you want this sort of thing buy another game theres pleanty exactly like what you are talking about!

yeah man, ozzy man, the way u suggested will make it more like aoe if u ask me, and i like that game but i like homm more because its different, turn based, and a whole bunch of other cool sh**, but seriously ozzy, when u think about it ur idea would make it more aoe style, which is not good for homm in my view

my interest in this topic is theoretical rather than practical. i.e. i think homm combat is good the way it is.

i've been thinking about what it would look like if, in the beginning of a round, you would have to give orders to your troops to attack this and that, to go there, and then when both players hit 'done,' the round would begin and continue without intervention until the beginning of next round.

theoretically (if the battles would be nice that way) it might speed up combat during multi and also make hotseat more comfortable, and maybe it could look natural.

and there might be some connection possible with the correct order of sequence of events on the battlefield (i know that might turn out really unplayable).

there are several problems even without the ones mentioned above, though. and those problems are what i would like to discuss, vaguely hoping that maybe anyone would be interested.

1) you don't know what your opponent is going to do. maybe he will move away with a creature so that you cannot attack. will your stack just waste an attack chasing the opponent stack over the battlefield while it's attack could have been useful elsewhere? on the other hand, how can your opponent be so sure what stack you are going to attack and if he can guess it then maybe he should get credit for that?

or maybe the stack is already dead when the stack that you have ordered to attack it gets it's turn. what will happen? will the stack attack the nearest opponent? what if you don't want the stack to attack it?

2) when you have ordered melee troops to attack a flyer and the flyer moves that round, and so the flyer is in the air unreachable for the melee troops. maybe this would be common sense, but would it be playable?
