Poll Question:
simultaneous multiplayer turns

I think it would be neat if all human players in a multiplayer game could(optionally) take their turns simultaneously without rotating turns, just like in Lord of the Realms 2.

For example, if 3 people were playing multiplayer, on day 1 ALL 3 players would begin their turns simultaneously. When the first person finishes moving, he would have to wait for the other players to complete their moves, then day 2 starts. If two players(blue and red) were engaged in a battle with each other, and the green player attacked another blue hero, a second window would pop up for blue player so he could manage the second battle. Of course green would not be allowed to attack the same blue hero that red is alredy fighting with (until after their battle).

Easier said than done of course, but just a thought that I had.

It would be neat, and make multiplayer games more exciting, but would have a dramatic impact on the game's design. I don't think 3DO would allow such a change, the game being ok the way it is right now.

By the way, your poll does not work.

I don't nkow why 3DO wouldn't allow that change. And it really is very boring not being able to do anythign while your opponent takes his/her turn.

Because they want the game to ship this Fall.

Don't get me wrong dear Lady, I like the idea. But I think simultaneous turns would be a major change to the game, would require whole weeks of redesign and have a great impact of gameplay balance. It could be an interesting question for Mara the next time she appears on the 3DO Boards though.

Right

I understand and agree. The idea is good but I would rather have the game than have some big chages. They can work on that for the expansion pack, which there will hopefully be one.

This is great BUT...

I definitely think this idea should be implemented into the Heroes series because in between turns is a nightmare(for me anyways) in multiplayer.
Also it would make 8player multi games possible (How it was meant to be) and not take a week to play.

But...
1) it's too late to implement such a major change to the game (unless it's already happening which i doubt).
2) WTF would happen when 1 player battles battles?


I reeeaaalllly  hope that 3DO will consider adding such a feature in the future to the HoMM series. It would make games quicker and more enjoyable.

Their is a thread out there called 'turning point' which explains one way of making battles + turnbasedstrategy work as well as the pros and cons of such a system. I won't post that idea here, unless someone asks me too, since I have done this repeatedly in the past without gaining any support on the topic

Long ago...

I wanted this change long ago- not strictly as stated here though; my idea was simultaneous turns until first contact. Many times 2 weeks go by depending on the map before you have to fight a human, waiting all those turns inbetween is what makes a game take 5 hours instead of 2. I don't think it would be incredibly hard to manage either. Just when 2 human hero get within certain # of hex of each other and an attack is possible(no mountains or water seperating in other words) then the game automatically switches to turns on the turn of the person 1st in move order so they would get 1st attack anway if it was turns.

This might be the best way to attract players to turn based gaming because almost all turbn based games have this problem of taking horus to play before any real fighting occurs in the multiplayer sense of the word.

Yeah, there are definatly ways aroudn the hard points. I kept thinking this idea would be more like, when you end your turn, you wait for everyone else to end your turn, and the host asks if everyone is done. If yes, then he hits the end-all turn button and they go into the next turn. The idea is still the same, not much changed, but you still play your one turn at the same time.
Hopefully yhis was the idea to start with. If not, then I just added another idea.
