Smoking does cause diseases such as lung cancer. My grandpa got lung cancer because he smoked for twenty-five years. Even after he needed oxygen to live, and he knew he had to quit, he still smoked because he was addicted. Nobody say that smoking is not addictive, and it does not lead to death in later life. That topic was proved a long time ago.
I personally think that if people want to kill themselves, they should do it in their own homes.

Not only that, Murl. Besides lung cancer, smoking damages your heart (eventual heart disease/failure), can severly affect your brain and because of the high amount of tar in each cigarette, damage your teeth and give you very bad breath. Many heavy smokers die at a very young age because what they do damages their health with every few minutes of smoking.

Somehow I don't get what is so 'fashionable' about smoking.

No Smoking in Public Restarants.  If you have a problem with that, go to Russia.

I say it should be against the law to put additives in which are unhealthy. (Pretty much no additives pls) I smoke non aditivie smokes and I'm not the healthiest, but atleast I dont have anit freeze and other chemicals in my lungs..

hold a smoke to a black light sometime to see all the chemical splashes.. Thats not even the pesticides they might use, ect..

Should smoking be banned in public places?

Smoking is already sent outside in most restaurants, bars and businesses.
As a smoker, I've already been sent outside to smoke, which I will do willingly because I don't want to offend those who don't smoke.
What gets me is that the gov't is trying to tell me that I can't smoke outside on the street while I'm outside, saying I have to smoke at home. Well folks, my mom has a rule that if she's home, I have to take my butts outside. If this law is passed, I won't be able to smoke outside, even if I'm standing on my front porch.

you wont be able to smoke outside?, im sure you could still smoke on your porch it is private property, its not public, same with backyard, your car ect... i think this would be nice too, at least there wont be cig butts everwhere. designated areas outside are a must though at bars and restaurants.

Actually no, I heard about this law trying to be passed in some state (West Virgina??).  That states if your neighbor smells your smoke, your breaking the law.

hmmm before you all shoot me, i don't smoke either

but i don't know how many of you that say "others annoy you" with their smoking habbits do realise that they represent the majority who go to bars/restaurants/indoor places, so in fact, you really bother them by screaming that you can't handle the smoke.

i don't like cigarettes, nor do i like sniffing their smoke, but i won't make a big deal out of it, or force someone to go outside or put it out just because i feel like it, if you really want to live those extra 6 minutes of your life, stay at home, in a non-drinking, non-smoking, non-getting laid, no-tv, no-pc environment, be a BUBBLE BOY/GIRL

I smoke, but I generally try to please the non-smokers when I'm in their company. It's not a big deal, I'd like to stop one day anyways.

So my University Student's Union banned smoking in it's building. In the pool hall, bar, restaurant and shopping area.

It lasted a month.

Profits plummetted around 85%.

I'm not saying that this is conclusive evidence that it shouldn't have been banned. What I'm saying is that it might not be appropriate to ban it in all places.

In the US it's banned in lots of places. Practically everywhere from what I'm hearing from you guys.
It works for America, it won't work for every country.

Now shut up and breathe my smoke
