theres just a sliiiiiiight chance that she saw him in the american "DAM Im so good! Im gonna accuse him and get $$$ and write a book about it and make more $$$ and get famous cause I deserve all that. snow that guy!"

If she was just a regular hotel employe it would be different, but she sounds like a fame-digger.

probably your right Zud, but what if...what if Kobe got drunk one night, who knows why, gets this fan girl in his expensive car and goes somewhere in a remote area.

There he might have tried to kiss her, (u know U.S.A. girls backing off all the times) she didnt want to, he insisted and there u go:
a excelent, drunk basketball player raping an innocent(but stupid) fan.

What do u think if it was like that, what would u think about him than?

*This is just a theory, it has nothing to do with my overview on the situation.

Who's gonna believe the other side anyway..He's the one with the money and influence. It's unthinkable why someone like that would resort to rape when he can (supposedly) get anyone he wants?

But what IF she really was raped?

(hey..it's possible!)

What troubles me is the fact that according to the newspaper article there, a rapist would only get 4 years in prison for such a crime.  Considering the fact that you usually oly serve half a sentance, that's a terrible thought for destroying somebody (NOTE:_ I'm talking objectively, not about this particular case).

As it is, it is terribly hard to get a convicion fo rape in the world today, largely thanks to the urban legends about those who "cry rape", but also due to faults in the legal system.  Under British law, a woman's sexual history can be brought up in court, but ironically the sexual history of the man accused of raping her, as well as any past convictions are not allowed to be brought up.  Even then a rapist usually serves no more than five years, as any additional charges such as GBH, ABH, etc, will run concurrent in a tarriff system.  Added to that there is the fact that so few UK women feel able to press charges because they believe the hype that they were "asking for it" or are too scared after all they have gone through to be cross examined in court.

I guess I'm just saying you can't generalise about this sort of issue.

Kobe Bryant is charged with "sexual assault" which includes rape at the high end of sexual assault.  The sentence can range from 4 years to life if convicted.  If he did indeed rape her, 4 years is not a sufficient sentence, but the four year sentence is probably intented for things like forcible groping and stuff that, while definitely deserving of jail time, certainly doesn't deserve a life sentence.

Yes but since he is a sports star he will be lucky to serve 1 week.  I see probation if that.  A shame that in this country sports stars are above the law.  Mike Tyson was just a fluke to keep people happy.

Mike Tyson only got 4 hours of community service

But then he went and bit the judge's ear........

On a serious note, rape is prolly one of the most base crimes a man can commit, and if he's guilty, then he should get at least 10 years on top of forced castration, imo.

Proving the guilt is another matter, indeed, though.  Our penal system is so screwed up that enough money and the right attorney can be enough to at least show 'reasonable doubt' if not win an outright Not Guilty verdict.

And that's sad
