Are wizards supposed to get this much attack?

I know that the different hero classes are supposed to have different chances of advancing in attack, defense, spell power and knowledge, but often it seems to be completely random.

Like in the game i just played, my wizard advanced more in attack than he did in spell power (and i don't count artifacts), this seems to happen pretty often.
Also, sometimes a might hero advances more in knowledge or spell power than in might.

I've read somewhere that a wizards chance of advancing in the different skills is 10/10/40/40, but this cant be true.
A wizard always seems to get at least half as much attack/defense as he gets power/knowledge.
Same thing with barbarians, they're supposed to have something like 55/35/5/5, but i always get at least half as many magic points as i get might points with them.

How much difference does it really make if you pick a might hero or a magic hero?

I'm not exactly sure on the level...it might be 12th? But after that level the skill advance is completely random. Before this level, the hero will gain its primary skill something like 75% of the time (barbarians-attack, wizards-knowledge, warlocks-power etc) but after the particular level, its random.

Oh.
Yeah, that makes sense.
It always seems to even out as the game progresses.

Thanks for the info.

Do you know if theres any significant difference between the magic classes, like between wizards and druids?

I know that Warlocks, there power increases the fastest.

On Wizards, there knowledge increases the fastest.

Yeah, but does it really make any difference?
I mean more than like one point in each game?

I think they all seem to get about the same stats.

It also really depends on the map you are playing. Although your heroes are given certain stats based on your class, maybe what they get when they level up is influenced by what they have learnt on the map from certain buildings eg. Mercenary camp.

The thing is, i often get magic heroes that have stats like 3/4/5/4 after about 12 levels.
(not counting artifacts, mercenary camps and such)

So it seems like theres really not much difference between how might and magic heroes advance.

There is a difference between hero developing-in primary and secondary skills. Take a look at this text from Astralwizard's game site.An Fortress example:

"The Beastmaster begins with Defense 4, and from the 8 level rises up to level 9 chances are that he will get around 5 more , while the other 3 will probably be on attack. After that he has a 30% chance to gain attack or defense and 20% chances to gain Knowledge or Spell Power, so a level 19 Bestmaster will look something like 6 12 3 3 (without any artifacts and locations visits). His secondary skills will mainly come from Archery, Armorer (every Beastmaster comes equipped with it), Artillery, Ballistics, First Aid, Leadership, Learning, Logistics, Navigation, Offense, Pathfinding, Resistance, Scouting and Tactics. He can't get Fire Magic at all, and Air Magic is highly improbable. If the opportunity presents itself to learn a Magic School, it will most likely be Earth Magic, followed by Water Magic which has the same probability than Wisdom. Finding a Beastmaster with Wisdom and at least one Magic School will be a rare occasion.

The Witch is very magic oriented. On average the first eight level rises will give you three levels each in Spell Power and Knowledge and probably two in Defense. From then on it's a 20% probability for Attack/Defense and a 30% probability for Knowledge/Spell Power, so a level 19 Witch will look something like 2 5 8 8 (without any artefacts and locations visits). So a Witch is a potent spellcaster with decent defense capabilities. Her secondary skills will mainly come from Eagle Eye (highest probability), Intelligence, Mysticism, Navigation, Scholar, Sorcery and Wisdom (every Witch comes equipped with it), while Armorer, Ballistics, Earth Magic, Learning, Logistics, Luck, Necromancy and Water Magic have decent chances to present itself for a pick. Witches can't get Resistance and Estates. Fire Magic, First Aid and Leadership are highly improbable. As the chances to get Necromancy are as high as that of, for example, Earth Magic, Armorer or Ballistics"

I don't know. On Astral's site was really a lot of stuff like this. Try to dig it out somewhere here in the library. Will the site be back?

Astral Wizard is not down. It's just that HoMM1 2 and 3 sections aren't updated anymore (well, maybe the H3 maps archives are).

...even if its from astral wizards it contains more or less some points that are completely BS.
