Poll Question:
The Ultimate Conquerer

Finally, I've completed the five first Campaigns in Winds of War on Champion level.

The purpose of this poll is to ask which of the five main hero makes the ultimate conquerer and why this Hero is the best.

The poll question is:
With which Hero will I complete the last Campaign with the highest score (using no RELOADs during the game)?

You can motivate it from the stats I'm going to post or from your own experiences.

(I'll post stats and generic bonuses further down, since I can't edit the first post in the topic without resetting the poll.)

Responses:
Spazz Maticus
Mongo
Mysterio the Magnificent
Erutan Revol
Baron von Tarkin

As it would be very sad to admit, I think that Mongo is the ultimate conqueror... His Combat skills gives him everything he needs to stand against Spazz, Tarkin or others...

Again... Mysterio - Evil Sorceresses, Genies, Combat & Order (and Death, at least I chosen it...) Magic.

The third one would be... Erutan. Again, Magic Resistance, Summoning and Combat skills... + Gargantuans for hire...

Then Baron von Tarkin - Vampires raising and Dark Champions... Hand of Death disables the Super Megadragons and other powerfull spellcasters without Spell resistance. Well... but Death Spells don't work or poorly works on Life units...

And at last SpazzMaticus - Direct damage spells is not a great tactics, cuz then Catapults come in great numbers !

It depends a bit on which power-ups Heroes have accessible in previous scenarios and which one I was able to procure.

Until I can find away to slim down the pics I made these are the stats:

All heroes have (overland) Movement 22, and normal Hits for their level. Heroes have nothing equipped.

B=Basic, A= Advanced, E=Expert, M=Master, GM= Grand Master

Spazz: Level 27 Witch King
Damage: 57-86 Attack: 39 Defence: 69 Speed: 22 XP value: 444672 Ranged Attack: None Ranged Defence: 69 Spellpoints: 112

Combat: GM, B, -, -
Nobility: M, E, A, E
Life: B, -, -, -
Death: B, B, - , -
Choas: GM, GM, GM, A

Mongo: Level 26 Warlord
Damage: 56-84 Attack: 78 Defence: 93 Speed: 9 XP value: 358540 Ranged Attack: 53 Ranged Defence: 93 Spellpoints: 60

Combat: GM, GM, GM, GM
Tactics: A, B, - A
Nobility: E, M, A, -
Life: A, A, B, B
Order: E, E, B, -

Mysterio: Level 28 Battlemage
Damage: 59-88 Attack: 88 Defence: 78 Speed: 10 XP value: 464400 Ranged Attack: 54 Ranged Defence: 78 Spellpoints: 86

Combat: GM, GM, E, M
Scouting: A, B, B, B
Nobility: B, B, - B
Life: E, E, B, A
Order: M, M, GM, B

Erutan: Level 27 Beastmaster
Damage: 57-86 Attack: 52 Defence: 72 Speed: 9 XP value: 395466 Ranged Attack: 38 Ranged Defence: 72 Spellpoints: 100

Combat: GM, GM, GM, M
Tactics: B, A, B, B
Order: A, B, -, B
Chaos: A, A, -, -
Nature: M, E, GM, -

Baron Von Tarkin: Level 28 Dark Lord
Damage: 59-88 Attack: 42 Defence: 69 Speed: 21 XP value: 464400 Ranged Attack: 29 Ranged Defence: 69 Spellpoints: 115

Combat: E, B, B, A
Scouting: B, B, B, B
Nobility: E, E, B, B
Order: A, B, B, B
Death: GM, GM, GM, GM

To give you an idea of how well I played these in the inital campaigns, here are the indiviudal Campaign Scores:

Spazz: 242 days, 4580 score
Mongo: 162 days, 4240 score
Mysterio: 172 days, 5935 score
Erutan: 186 days, 5180 score
Tarkin: 193 days, 5975 score

Seems that Mysterio is in the Lead... Hmm... would be one of my own favorites also. If there are enough weak stacks then the Baron will be very dangerous. Four Vamps per battle will soon amount to a formidable force.

I started out with Baron Von Tarkin.
Result: 65 Days and score 4550.

Final stats (no items equipped):

Level 32 Assassin
Damage: 65-98 Attack: 71 Defence: 117 Speed: 23 Ranged Attack: 56 Ranged Defence: 117 Spellpoints: 137

Combat: GM, A, E, GM
Scouting: B, B, B, B
Nobility: E, M, B, A
Order: E, A, A, A
Death: GM, GM, GM, GM

Erutan Revol (Sigh... Every Altar, and every Guild gave me skills I didn't want.) Also a lot of Arenas in the might area I never had time to visit.
Result: 67 days, score 4760

Erutan: Level 32 Beastmaster
Damage: 65-98 Attack: 70 Defence: 78 Speed: 13 Ranged Attack: 51 Ranged Defence: 78 Spellpoints: 129

Combat: GM, GM, GM, GM
Tactics: E, A, A, A
Order: A, B, B, E
Chaos: E, A, B, -
Nature: GM, GM, GM, E

Finished two more.
With Mongo I had better luck in getting upgrades and items I wanted.

Result: days 53, score 4945

Final stats (no items equipped):

Mongo, level 32 Warlord.
Damage 65-98, Attack: 108, Def: 114, Speed: 11, Ranged Attack: 74, Ranged defence: 114, Spellpoints: 85.

Combat: GM, GM, GM, GM
Tactics: A, E, B A
Nobility: GM, GM, E, -
Life: E, E, A, A
Order: E, E, A, B

Spazz went overall well in upgrades though I was a bit unlucky with the Ranger subcommander. When finally it attained GM stealth I only had two days left of the scenario. Spazz was fairly close to gain an additional level and also had one level-up structure and a few booster structures unvisited to speed up the end-game.
Result: days 55, score 4945

Final stats (no items equipped):

Spazz, level 31 Witch King
Damage: 64-96, Attack: 66, Defence: 87, Speed: 26, Ranged attack: 51, Ranged defence: 87, Spellpoints: 151

Combat: GM, B, A, -
Nobility: GM, GM, GM, M
Life: A, B, B, B
Death: A, A, B, B
Chaos: GM, GM, GM, GM

Finsihed the last one. No real troubles in this one. Didn't even have to fight Mongo since he killed himself on a neutral stack. Despite the fact that this costed me three additional days after having captured Rylos, Mysterio was the fastest.

Result: Days 48, score 4945

Mysterio: Level 33 Battlemage
Damage: 67-100 Attack: 115 Defence: 99 Speed: 14 XP value: 1.259k Ranged Attack: 83 Ranged Defence: 99 Spellpoints: 111

Combat: GM, GM, GM, GM
Scouting: E, M, B, B
Nobility: B, A, - B
Life: E, E, E, E
Order: GM, GM, GM, A

Since there doesn't seemed to be anyone putting in their two cents.

The final results:
1. Mysterio. 48 days
2. Mongo. 53 days
3. Spazz. 55 days
4. Von Tarkin. 65 days
5. Erutan. 67 days

What happens in the last campaign? I only played Mungo's campaign so far.

What's up with the others? I'll have Evil Sorceresses, Megadragons and stuff like that?

Well, Mungo had FRenzied Gnashers, but they are completely useless - slow on map, cannot be controlled and always die.

You get to pick one of the main characters in the previous 5 Campaigns.

All the main characters have the stats and abilities as you left them off in the campaign.

Each faction starts with 3 Castles, one of which has a Fort, and two level 10 sub-commanders. Creatures are given to each faction as follows:

Spazz: 1 Mega Dragon every 2 weeks
Mongo: 3 Frenzied Gnashers/week
Mysterio: 2 Evil Sorceresses/week
Erutan: 2 Gargantuans/week
Von Tarkin: 2 Dread Knights/week

The Fenzied Gnashers are not totally useless. They had their uses in the first Map, before Mongo could take on the stacks by himself.

The fact that they are Magic Resistant will make it a bit harder to face Mongo on this final map.

For the daring/inventive character the last map also contains some largely unfair armies to take on. They usually consists of 3 stacks of level 4s, all of which usually counts in their dozens. Overall, with a no RELOAD option I tended to avoid those.

Djive, could you send me a save for finishing the campaigns fast? csarmi@freemail.hu

I don't have 876 hours to play them all, also they look dumb at first sight, but interested in campaign #6

Well I did not really used those Gnashers, maybe in two battles or so. Your zerks and hero is enough.

I can send you the files, though there is no savegame for the campaign (unless they've made it a hidden file).

I guess I could create one save-game file for each conqueror, though that would probably about 500kB * 5.

I assume it's some file in the Data directory which indicates which campaings are finished. Anyone knows which files this is?

I meant you should have a save file close to the end of each individual campaign.

I have just realized that you played with no reload option, so actually you did not even save it.

Just send those files, that'll do.

Thanks.
