Who is might, and who is magic

Hello guys,

Today I had an argue with a community member:
Which hero you can call - might hero
and Which hero you can call - magic hero.

Basicly for me, hero is not judged by his title "barbarian"
for example, or by his speciality - "Offence".
If Crag has Expert Wisdom, Expert Air, Earth, Fire and Water, could you call him still a might hero?
My opinion - I don't think so.
What's yours?

Edit:  revived!@

the class plays some part...

...but in the end is how you develop a hero that counts... if you take a wizard and fill his skill slots with might skills (offence, armorer, etc...) it won't be a magic hero anymore... so I guess we agree

Yes

Crag Hack is a might hero no matter what. However, if we weer talking about Gundala or Neela... they are not respectively heroes of magic and might. But of both schools. :-)

jesus lol...a barbarian, when he levels, gets ATTACK, a wizard gets KNOWLEDGE and POWER.

a barbarian gets offered logistic, armorer, archery, tactics, and the skills all heroes get offered usually like wisdom and a magic or 2.
a wizard gets offered magics, eagly eye, mysticism, and all the stuff you usually dont want.

if crag hack has wisdom and air/earth magic, which he USUALLY HAS, he is still a might hero without any doubt coz he will have HIGH ATTACK no matter what artis you have and will do HUGE damage.

if hack and a wizard meet than, you can try to cast mass slow, than crag casts mass haste and than i wish you a nice day lol, you will never ever call hack a magic hero after that.
if the wizard wants to have any chance he needs damage spells, thats the only way a magic hero can win (not counting if he has angelic alliance of course or such), you really think blind, forgethfullnes or anti magic will ever help a magic hero?

i hope thats clear enuf now

Well that is the friend I was arguing with.

See, he has a good point also.
Just I don't feel right calling an expert wise magic guy a might hero.

Any other opinions?

LOL, well Crack boy a magic hero, he can hardly spell his own name
As previously pointed out in this thread, the only hero imho that cant be defined as purely might or purely magic is Gundula. Only reason she aint a purely magic hero, is coz she has speciality in offence. Otherwise 3DO has put it nice and clearly to us. 1 might class and 1 magic class heroes for each town.
And yup Andi is completely right when he points out that for instance Crack gets attack when he levels. Try giving Crack expert wis and all magic schools, dont take any statboosting locations and dont give him any arties. At level 20 u will be lucky if he has 3 in power and 20 spellpoints, unless offcourse u also gave him intelligence, in which case he would have 40 spellpoints. Do u consider that a magic hero???
Just my 2 cents

Known Hero

I guess what Batvanio was trying to say is that in Heroes 3 its pretty easy to have a might hero that can be an excellent spell caster or a magic hero that can be a terrific fighter. All you need is a couple of secondary skills and relics. Any might hero can have 2 magic schools (you will ralely use more anyway) and given a spell power/ knowledge relics he might be a better spell caster than the opposing magic hero, who on the other hand is a better fighter having the attack and defense relics

I hope in heroes 4 will be more difficult for such transitions.

There's 'excellent spellcaster' - and then there's excellent spells ... Hack gets to be a very useful spellcaster because he uses mass haste and mass slow, and then his troops make mincemeat out of the opposition.  But this is a common strategy with *any* hero in normal/common game situations.  You don't need much spellpower or knowledge to make the most of Expert Haste, Slow, Bless ...

And this often means that people prefer might heroes, especially for multiplayer, assuming they have time enough to develop the expertise in magic schools.

But there are battles - uncommon game situations, granted - which can *only* be won using a powerful magic hero, both in terms of expertise and in terms of spellpower and spellpoints (and spells!).  How else can a hero with 40 Titans, 66 ArchDevils, and 160 Nagas take out 2700 Archdevils?  Slow, blind, resurrect, clone, haste, prayer, attack-and-reblind ... It took 1000 spellpoints, but it won the game!  (Orrin's Island)  (This kind of situation turns up most often in singleplayer maps of expert or impossible difficulty.)  And in *that* sense Craig Hack will never qualify ...

And in some sense H4 avoids this question entirely.  As you develop your main hero's skills, his character type will be redefined to match!  :-)

It should be correct to call hero, which in the begining was determined to be might as might, and such as magic call him magic one. Well heroes changed their "fates", but still what was given from the begining to them cannot dissapear (without proper patch, hack from the creator).

To level 10 mostly might heroes either get more attack, defenese or both, where magic get power, knowledge or both. Also specialization of them are more might vs. magic oriented (which is not always the case). Also the chance to get magic vs. might skill is still dependant on what your hero was meant to be.

Say, priest child, true disciple becomed one day knight. It's possible - but it was trained all his childhood as being connected either with magic, or religion (peasants on the other side - will always be peasants - but in WOG that thing changed).

At the end coming to level 40 - things becoming to mix - you are both might and lots of times magical. But history is what it counts (e.g. till level 10 - early childhood).

Well, Well, - CHAINING LIGHT - but what will happen if opponent has than 3 creatures, or only 4 - but you are expert in Air Magic? (And of course enemy don't have any cart, tent or balista).

Then again if enemy is faster than you, or enemy got TACTICS - how you gonna defend yourself - with CHAINING LIGHTING? huh?

If i have a choice to make between same level of Craig Hack and Solmyr - I'll take Craig Hack - Craig Hack with flying and melee creatures is just a killer!

yes I will pick Crag over Soly too.

But in the later stages of the game, indeed things are leveled.
I mean in the begining Crag is a pure might, no doubt.
A mighty childhood, a mighty destiny.
But overall I always pick with him - Wisdow, Air and Earth.
Then the arties and bonuses do count because they are in the game.
An on lvl 25 Grag has at least 150 SP which is fairly enough.
If I can manage to pick Inteligence too then 300 SP match any magic hero.
And with Soly on lvl 25 I have 350 SP without the Inteligence. But Soly Also has around 30 Attack and 30 Defence at this point of the game.
So indeed on higher levels things are almost the same.
But Grag is much more like Soly at this point.
Then who is might and who is magic?
Malkia claims that only the childhood counts.
And maybe he is right.
But at the end it is important what Sec. skills have you picked up.

I know this artifact - but can't remmember it's name!
Yep - it protects you from doing lighting on yourself - but still - you have to find it! You can't be sure that you'll find it - also It's using space on the necklace where something better might be put.

still - Solmyr is not for me - at least the way i play Heroes - I preffer more might heroes when comes to nonnecromancy - and THANT, VIDOMINA or the other guy with NECROMANCY speciality when comes to necros.

Actually my fav non-necromancy hero is Crag Hack, followed by Mephala and Tazar.

Heheee, well offcourse it depends on style of play. But if u play multiplayer as in TOH, its sound advice to take Crag over Soly anyday. Coz both recanters and pendant of negativity will render Soly completely useless. And mass haste can do that aswell.
But for campaigsn or play against comp Soly is quite adequate, eventhough Crag will become much better when u get them sick stats that u do in campaigns after having cleared a couple of maps for all statboosting locations
