So? You're claiming that the new technology wont be dominated by the rich, agriculture was dominated by the rich, they decided things not the serfs. They decided if the serfs were gonna starve that winter or  not.
Quote:
That's an entirely separate question. It's comparing "I want something but I can't afford it" to "A bunch of rich people are conspiring not to let me have it, even though I can afford it."

not to mention this technology is pure speculation, even if it exists, in the early stages I GUARANTEE you wont be able to afford it. And as I clearly pointed out, even if it gets cheaper by time, it is not something that would be distributed like free milk. Only a minority can be deathless according to limitations on distribution of the resources.

Hah, ever heard of wage slavery? You already are a peasant if you are not obscenely rich.

Yes, me sitting here in front of a computer in an air-conditioned house, educated and well-fed, certainly sounds like the experience of a typical peasant.

No, there IS a middle-class but that's kind of off-topic now. Let me ask something else to mvass. Now, you know there already is a way to attempt immortality, something much cheaper than what's been discussed in here and not guaranteed, but it's better than nothing and it's been around for decades. People decapitate and freeze their head. Why don't you think that's more common? Why is it only really rich people like Walt Disney who goes down that road? Do you think, if you wanted to, you could have your head frozen, how much do you think even that costs?

Oh please, do come back telling me how you are financially independent and enjoy 1st class medical treatment, financial security and eating high quality foods.

Just because you are part of the "upper" middle class, does not mean that you are less of a wage slave. Do google "wage slave".

artu:
Cryonics is an interesting idea and I know some people who will be doing it, but there's a number of problems with it. One is that it's difficult to freeze the head in such a way that it's not damaged beyond recovery. With current technology, it's not possible to freeze someone's head without damaging it. Another problem is that if I choose a cryonics company now, it may go out of business sometime between my death and the time when technology to attach my head to a functional body may be available. My head may simply be thrown in the garbage when the company goes out of business. Yet another problem is that a society will need to be either very wealthy or very good at educating people, because otherwise the frozen people may stay frozen. Consider what would happen if we found a cache of ten thousand people from 1000 AD cryogenically frozen in a cave somewhere. If we had the technology to revive them fully, how many do you think would be revived? Ten or twenty? Certainly not all ten thousand. Unless people from the past can be provided for at barely any expense, or they can quickly become productive in the future, there's a real risk that people who are cryogenically frozen now will never be revived.

So, while cryonics is interesting, it's not very promising.

Seraphim:
The term "wage slavery" conflates the relatively good experiences of modern workers and the suffering of slaves.

Wage slavery is common in Romania, which is why I'm thinking I should work abroad when the time comes, as much as I love my country, I won't be a slave.

I still mantain that immortality would never become available to the masses, it's just too important for the rulers to let that happen.

Well, I would rather be a hunter gatherer than a wage slave or an actual slave to people and their hubris.
Well mvass, go work for a month or so in a sweatshop and live in a shanty town, maybe you will change your mind but I doubt it.
Confident are not you?

Of course it would be available to the masses, unless you pay monthly 499,99 until you die, no refunds!

That maybe, but they would never, ever give it to the masses for free.

I would also rather be a hunter gatherer than a serf. But I do prefer Monarchy to Democracy now that we're at it...

Of course, nothing is free(Inside joke, "Nothing is free", as in the word). Since you would be immortal, they would charge you monthly forever, until you get hit by a car.

Funny thing, serfdom began to die in europe because of...wait for it...
the black plague. Once nobody was around to enslave people for some land, or no people to get enslaved, the whole thing died away in western europe.

Perhaps we need a zombie apocalpyse to end globalization and misery.

Then let Sweden be your first choice of future residence. We got monarchy, yet more freedom than Romania or 'Murica will ever have and much less wage slavery. We also got the most beautiful flag on earth.

And evil is cool, thats what most animes, the music industry, politics, and hc have taught me.

You are probably right Sera, this is getting a bit too off topic and we should probably stop... Oooooor we do whatever we want whenever we want!

I do not fear the mods, they fear me and I got them around my little finger. And besides, what are they going to do? Remove QP, silence or even ban? They would not dare flex their muscles against me because they know the influense and power I have in HC.
The only thing they could do to hurt me would be to tell me that my flag preferences are wrong, make fun of me or something else personal like that which would make me sad and submissive.

Finally someone who understand the glory of the blue and yellow flag!

You should see how fabulous and patriotic I look in my customized armor when I play WotR. I have been called a blue and yellow clown by my team mates but I told them they had no fashion sense at all (which is true).
