multiplayer_creation_failure
when i try to host/join a game (lan, direct-play...), it says this message in a box. i'm sure i installed the patches properly. i've reinstalled the network protocols but it didn't work. these protocols installed: tcp/ip, netbeui, ipx/spx, client for microsoft networks.
i tried on the other machine over lan and it worked.

Uncheck the properties box "firewall", restart the machine and go!

i don't get it. which properties box you mean? if you mean the gamespy, i don't have it installed. i'm trying to play over lan and i think it's not necessary.

This happens to me as well...I tried unchecking the box that makes the firewall, in ISP properties right? That's what you mean?
It still says multiplayer_creation_failure, I can play the single player fine though.
Is there anything else that can be done about this (I already have windows XP)

Yep I think he meant that..
It could be a few things in your case, either;
problem : You dont have the same version as the opponent
sollution : patch/update the game to at least version 3.0
patches can be found throughout the Internet, try gamespy or my site (I have got some too)
problem : you are using a router/firewall to connect to I-net
sollution : check this thread
problem : you dont have either of the above
sollution : I need to know more, like how you connect to internet, what protocols installed, are you on a LAN etc. If this is the case try to tell me as much as possible and I will try to help you out
Coz thers nuthing like playing another (human)

Wow...I didn't think anyone would respond so quickly.
Umm I think my Protocol is PPPoE if that's a protocol
I am connecting to the internet through a lan, but there isn't a firewall installed on my computer (at least I don't think there is).
Also, I am actually up to version 3.0 but I don't think that would matter because it wont even initialize the multiplayer game AT ALL. If I click on host before I can even begin to host the game (Where you click on create) it just says multiplayer_creation_failure.
So there is no opponent to have the same version as anyways.

yup that is a protocol
it stands for RAS PPP over Ethernet
RASPPPoE is a sort of 'third party' protocol
It can can be used to create a dial-up network connection (like a DSL connection ) instead of ISP provided protocols/drivers
what you can try is:
-in the network card properties-
Select the properties of the protocol and set the "TCP Maximum Segment Size (MSS) Option" to a different value..(limit it)
Also try it with all other protocols disabled, .e.g. only RASPPPoe enabled
You will notice your I-net pages load much faster then :0

Hmm I was just looking for this network card properties with the TCP (MSS) option but I don't seem able to find this particular option.
If you could tell how to get to this that would be greatly appreciated.
Also where do I disable these protocols?
And, is it possible that the multiplayer_creation_problem is another problem entirely.
At first I thought there could be some corrupt heroes files but I reinstalled, the patches worked fine etc..
Does it have something to do with maybe because I have the UK version?

They should be under Network card props, protocol props..
configuration screen, network connections -> properties
look for the RASPPPoE protocol, click and click properties..
If you cant set an option there, It must be done in the registry..
hmm, maybe not a good idea if you dont know what yur doing..
For your other quests:

just uncheck the other protocols in same window as mentioned above

Nope, you can play all language against eachother, the game language will be the one the host has.
Its actually kinda funny: When you play, say someone with a Polish version, a lot of things are Polish, artifacts and such get nice names LOL
GL with the problm
I have to go,
get sleep
I 'll check 2 morrow porbly, to see if its solved or not

Well...the problem's still not fixed.
I tried just about everything but I can't seem to find this TCP(MSS) setting.
But I don't think it's a network problem because I can play heroes 3 online?
Could it be because I have a cracked .exe (this didn't matter for heroes3).
and even though it is cracked it's still updated to v3.0.
Also I don't see why this should matter. I mean i can play single player games fine, I also have a friend who installed with the exact same CDs, who also has the cracked ver. and his works like a charm.
I wish I could just go out and buy the game but they don't sell it anywhere around here (and to ship it would cost a lot).
If you can think of anything else it would be greatly appreciated as this is my favourite game I just wish I bought it when it came out so I could actually own a copy.

A friend of mine had the same problem. The only solution I know is to reinstall the windows. I think the problem appears, when you install some program, but i don't know what is this program. The problem is not in the game or in the version of the game.
