"ironfist" mod for HoMM2 has it
although IMHO it does not fit all that well visually - looks too thin/skinny, especially compared to HoMM2 version of hydra

Good day Heroes!
It's been long since H3SW Team made any announcements regarding the development of the addon.

I've been invited as a programmer to the Team and now I am the main and the only one. There is a lot of work to be done; the whole addon code will be written from scratch and thoroughly optimized.

Here are some important points:
Since the version Beta 0.9 the game will no longer run on the WoG/ERA engine. That is, the game will require only the original Complete version to run. This was a hard step to take, but it will make things a lot easier, especially for a programmer. This means better optimizations, less bugs (WoG is known to be unstable; well no wonder as it and runs spaghetti mix of Assembly, scripts and Delphi) and more!

Official HD mod integration. Buttons, graphics filters, binary interoperability, etc. In new versions, HD Mod will officially support the Succession wars addon!

New map/savegame format. This renders old maps and saves useless. However, it is planned that the map editor will include a converter from the WoG format to the new one.

Tons of new features await to be implemented. The lack of WoG stuff really makes it easier to mod the game.

Since the version Beta 0.9 the system requirements will arise. The minimum environment to run the game will be as follows:
OS: Windows XP SP3
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 or any x86 CPU with the SSE2 support;
Disk: At least 1 GB of free space;
RAM: 400 MB of RAM, 200 MB maximum to be used by the game.

Great news ! very happy to move it to stand alone addition and not wog I hope in the future also for new factions to the game ! When can we expect something as a premiere or approximate date ?

You've only deprived yourself of ERA's capabilities, such as using PNG.
If you went to hero35.net and wrote about your intention to switch to pure Sod, you would be told that very soon the mod may be prohibited from compatibility (running) with other mods, including even wog mod.

Overall I think it was the wrong decision. It may be easier for you to develop H3SW this way and not use modern features to improve the quality of pictures, etc., but this is a matter of taste for the developer.

By the way, hd-mod also works fully in ERA, including the lobby.

We simply do not require 95% of ERA's capabilities, including PNG. Our graphics are initially made in a 256-color gamma, with a pre-defined palette most of the time.

And no, we don't require "better quality images". What we need is a lack of constraints and an ability to move forward.
