Having trouble playing HoMM1 on iBook
I recently got the original HoMM 1 for my iBook off eBay, and I've really been looking forward to playing, and it finally arrived today. Problem is, it won't play. Apparently this game doesn't work well with Macs sometimes, so I'm not too surprised, but none of the proposed solutions I've found online have helped. Has anybody out there seen or had this problem before, and have any suggestions?
Here's to hoping for good ideas!

It's a 900 MHz PowerPC G3. I'm running Version 10.2.8 of Mac OS X. Memory is 256 MB. Does this give any ideas?

First of all, you need to have Classic installed to be able to run it, as Mac OSX cannot run non-carbon PPC applications without running them through classic. Your machine is old enough to use Classic, and you should be able to install it from the system CD that came with your machine.
Even If you do have Classic though, there is a very big possibility that the game will be slow and very difficult to play properly, as classic does not run all games very well.

Yeah, I have Classic, but Heroes isn't even getting to a load screen. Well, to be more accurate, something blinks up really quickly, then goes away. Does this shed any light on my problem? Or alternatively, which Heroes games should work OK on OS X? I know 4 should, but will 2 and 3 give problems similar to this? I'd hate to buy another game on eBay that I can't play...

I am running Mac OSX 10.4.3 on my G4 Powerbook, and I can play HOMM3 complete in classic mode. The game has a tendency of crashing randomly, but is otherwise playable to a full extent. If you can cope with the random crashes that might occur it should not be a problem. The game has autosave, so it is not really a big problem. Besides, it might not crash on an earlier version of OSX, like the one you have.
For other games in the series I don't know.
Hope that helps!
