If upgrading the tower like titans that important then you will die.
Titans are way to expensive & playing an oponent depending on map well upgrading sucks worst here.

Tower units are great, of course.
Gremlins are the only lvl1 shooterrs in the game and are not very expensive.
Gargoyles...I don't like them very much.
Golems are useful vs powerful spellcasters but they are slow! That means you have to leave them in the town, but they're good for garrisoning.
Mages - nothing to say...good lvl4 shooters.
Genies - if there wasn't so much "Prot from..." spells they could be my favourite lvl5 creatures...
Nagas - again, nothing to say...just excellent.
Titans - yes they shoot! But if your 7th level creatures DO shoot it means you're playing for Tower and you have LOTS of money! Tower creatures are very good but the town itself is one of the towns I think are the worst because it's very expensive. But sometimes it's funny to smash your enemies with the Solmyr's Chain Lightning.... Mwehahahaha!

The tower is my fav. town (3 shooters AND a lot of magic, just my cup of tea). However, I only play it on large and extra large maps with plenty of other towns because as many of you said, it's way too overpriced. Also, because of the tower's demand on gems, it takes me at least early month two to get titans, which means that it's not until the mid to late game that the towers extensive spells can be taken advantage of. I also like the alchemists because I've found that thay are nicely balaced, not lacking in any of the primary skills. Cheers.

I heard that you lot before me had fallen in love with the Tower Town in Heroes 3.

Now, for my opinion.

As a H3 player not long ago, I had to say that Tower is not that powerful to get on top of the world.

Tower has several glaring weaknesses. First, the creatures and dwellings are very expensive, and you will have a hard time trying to complete the town and its upgrades in about 5 months.

Second, many of the tower creatures are appalling.
- Gremlins are merely food for more powerful troops.
- Golems almost never get to attack because they are slow and creaky.
- Genies are decent, but very fragile and get mowed down easily.
- Gargoyles are fast and decent, but they are rather mediocre fighters.
- Titans are impossible to get unless you have payloads of gold mines.

Most Tower heroes have uninteresting specialties.

But there are many strengths with tower (3 shooters, high HP's, nice damage and special buildings). Titans and nagas are among the best creatures in their level.

Overall, the tower would be 5th in rank of towns.

I would rate Tower as the 3rd best town in game (it would be 1st, if it wasn't so expensive).
I think Tower depends too much on resource gathering. That kicking ass library costs a lot of diferent resources, so you must have all of them to use Tower's best advantages (not to mention the awesome need of gems). And, as you all know, it needs a lot of gold too.
That way, I think Tower blasts in a map with a lot of resources and sucks in a map with little resources.

What do you guys think?

u r right about the rich map, but it needs to be a map where tower has time to build also, if u can be rushed and dont have your titans yet youll die coz of the weakness of giants usually, also titans arent as mighty as offline players think due to their lack of speed, compared to most of the other L7s

Not been in thy library in a while lol.
Tower can be a good town but comparing to other creatures in same class it's pretty descent.
Very expensive but easiest to build 7th lv dwelling even though you will need 13 gems or so to build other dwelling first lol.
Also can be a good offensive castle on a random but if alot of time is spent lol cool.

Golems may be slow and creaky, but weak they are not. They have the highest hitpoints of any level 3 creature AND have magic resistance. As for slow, it's easy enough for a wizard to cast mass haste.

Andi, you raised the best point here.  The fastest creature that the Tower has to offer is 11?

No other town is as vulnerable to Mass Haste/Tactics as the Tower is.  Barring Morale, Stronghold will get 5 big shots in, assuming Terek doesn't cast it.  Fortress would get 5 shots in.  Castle w/Sir Mullich would be able to hit with EVERYONE before the Tower would have a chance to respond.

In a long game against a player of credible worth, Tower needs a backup town that will give it a faster creature to help prevent that avenue of attack.

i've found that having the tactics skill while playing the tower helps a lot. by moving all the units into a corner and having all the melee units on the outside, the ranged units on the inside can do some serious damage. Also, except for genies, all the melee units have respectable hp ratings and so can sustain the human shield for some time. The disadvantage is, however, that it is very vulnerable to area attacks like inferno and bezerk. Cheers.

I think most good points alrdy have been brought up here, even if the tower have one of the most powerful armies when all creatures are bought you still need lots of money/resources to do that. Get titans and a high lvl guild fast on most maps are hard. Get it on randoms is almost impossible, you just wont find all that gems lying around.

Other problems on randoms is that your starting army sucks, fast lvl 1 units in very important to have many fights and win resources. So you better upgrade those gremlins day1 and then go off to fight, but when your up against familiars/hobgoblins or cents or other fast units you will suffer losses because they reach you too fast. with gargs you can reach shooters fast enough to stop them from shooting but they will most likely get atleast one shot each and since master gremlins HP are so low many will die anyway. So next days u must buy golems to protect your shooters so you can attack some of those fast units because if you dont you will problably dont get enough resources for other dwells first week. And you keep noticing how your gremlins die one after another. Then about day5 you can get magi´s and they are great so when you get those your off to do some fighting again but then they cost even more money and you will problably need that cash for other buildings aswell.

Naga´s are great units but un upgraded they are too slow, but they are great to protect your shooters. Giants aint that good either, but if you get them first week you have done a good job indeed. My favourites with tower is when i finally can upgrade naga´s to naga queens because with them i crash most treasuries with out losses and off course titans too when they are upgraded.

So to wrap my "problem" with tower id say like this, you need lots of cash/res for dwells but you also need to spend that money on creatures to get these guarded resources on map. Because full build with tower cost tons of resources.

And then we also have the speed problem in combat, one of the reasons why castle is my favourite town is that i will almost always have fastest creature with my Arch Angels and therefor i feel like i have control of most things. (Unless some bastard berserks them when i have waited with them and they are coming up next ). Tower doesnt have this at all, as gootchie has pointed out many many creatures can get to attack before tower even have the chance to do something.

i agree with you, but since speed is what tower lacks, we must resort to less effective tactics.

With all this reliance on gems and what not  I'm starting to think that Battle Mages would be the best fit for the Tower, especially Sarung and Terek.

Terek would be good, Sarug would be excellent as scout but id say it would take much for me to use him as main. Orrin is a hero thats great with Tower aswell.

Tower is a powerful town at all but it is a fact that it is not possible to build all the buildings as you do with other towns. Too much money and resources are needed and in many of the maps, it is not so easy to find them together.Especially titans are unreachable at the beginning of the game. It is a possibility that your enemy is in front of your door while you are trying to collect your nagas

tower is good

I like playing Tower on random maps. I start day 1 with ~ 100 MG and they can clear pretty much everything except shootes. Then depending on the map I will go city + citadel, or try to get nagas. Giants dwelling is very cheap, only gems are problem, but giants are not that good anyway. Some nice heroes there also - neela, solly, toro (for tactics), etc. Magi let you cast at reduced cost and I like playing magic heroes. As some mentioned problems are speed and gold.

Ok...
Heres my opinion on tower..

Depending on map of course..

Random Tower is excellent.. All you people that say titans are too expensive take a look at the build structure again lol.

40 gems - 30,000 gold. Titans
40 crystal - 30,000 gold - Gold Drags
40 sulfur 35,000 gold Black Drags
20 of each - 40,000 gold Arch Angel..

Hmmm for some reson that doesn't seem overly expensive to me. The only thing that bothers me about titan cost is that there is no bank to give you gems

Wizards... BAH what a horrible hero. Perhaps worse only Druids.

Alchemists.. Many are great, Torrosar, Neela, Iona all decent heroes.

Tower has an immensley strong creature line up. It is not that difficult build. And the ease in which giants can be purchased makes for a fast start.

Towers main issue in power is between weeks 3-4 on a random map. It is just not strong enough here. Week 5 and further you should have little difficulty killing many other towns of course stats and magic permitting.

Towers main weakness in human combat is the feeling that you must stand back and await your opponents moves.. Tower is NOT a defensive town, it is extremely offensive in fact.  Most people get stuck in the trap.. I must protect my shooters at all costs. but why bother? neither titan or Magi have a melee penalty. Gremlins?? come on. how much dmg can they really do at late stages of game.

Golems are a bad unit?? thats ridiculous. I'd like to see what you say about 90 Iron golems on Neela with a fire sheild on em blocking your castle gate.

Anyway I like tower a fair bit. It does well on the highest difficulties despite what many think. And in multi play its major drawback is that most premade maps do not allow for tower to become its fullest.

Anyway thats my opinion.. ps.. Best heroes for tower are no from tower

Best heroes to play tower with: Orin, Gunnar, Jabarkas, Ivor, Valeska, Kyrre, and of course the normal others.

lol destro...tossersar and iona good heroes? hmmm....
about the gem and gold cost for titans, yepp its true the basic buildings dont require more than many from other towns, but...the other buildings also cost a snowload of stuff, magis 5 of all ressources (!!!), genies 6 more crys and gems, and nagas cost some too.
and gold, nagas cost 1600, titans 5000, master genies are not cheap too if i remember right...so you have to pay a lot until you can buy out...i would rate tower definetaly the weakest town on randoms, very hard to get all the ressources you need often, and with giants you cant do as much as with other L7.

hmmm..

I would have to disagree about them being weakest on randoms..
But many factors need to be taken into consideration such as.. map size, difficulty, and such.

For example I think for 160% and 200% Tower is prolly the fastest starter. Granted, you will slow down heavily come mid week 2, but speed should be back up by mid to late week 3.

Torrosar is a great hero to start with.. certainly not a suitable main. But tactics, arrow and mysticism I find very helpful for 100 master grems and 6 golems week 1.

Iona.. hehe I know I know.. But I really like her. She always gets great skills for me, and I like that master genies can block shooters round 1 with her. But she is really just a personal preference.

Giants I also find can do just as well as other level 7.. The hit the hardest out of all non-upgraded 7's excluding angels.  They are very slow yeah.  But I still think with a few single stacks of master genies they can be great units.

Anyway Just a response..
