To Risk
Alrighties, this is taken from my hymnal book but I like the extract so much that I have it written on my wall and I would read it to my close friends. The source is anon, unfortunately.
It's my favorite and I hope you'll like it too. There it is.
TO RISK
To laugh is to risk appearing the fool
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out for another is to risk exposing our true self.
To place our ideas - our dreams - before the crowd is to risk loss.
To love is to risk not being loved in return.
To hope is to risk despair.
To try is to risk failure.
To live is to risk dying.

maybe...
but usually I rephrase that...
to risk is to live... without challenges, life is boring... and being bored is worse than death...
of course the definition of "challenge" varies from showing your true self to another, to climbing the Eiffel Tower with your bare hands... not sure which is more difficult tho...

This is a great poem... very true, too.
Reminds me of a certain Russian song with the same idea (I believe the ending line there is "and if you don't even live, you will not have to die").

It's a responsive reading in church. I love every bit of it.
Thing is, if you don't risk, you don't have any chance to succeed. But it;s also why people sometimes do stuff: out of fear for the consequences. If you try, you risk failure. Sometimes you don't try because you risk failure. Sometimes you do try DESPITE it all and fail. And that hurts.
But sometimes you don't.
It's so deep because it deals with so many issues, near and dear to a person's heart. The risk is the crossroad between gaining and losing.
And we all want to play but no one wants to lose.
