-- New Map: Walkabout --

Walkabout

You will do lots of fighting.. lots of praying too, at the altars..  if you visit an altar, make sure not to go outside the altar's homeland on accident, or you will LOSE what it gave you, and the altar will not give you stuff again until the beginning of next week.
- melee skill banned
- a small L3 stack of joiners to north and south.. usually about 3-5 creatures (just move close to them, and they will join)
- each oracle set gives scroll of dispel and 2 cowls of resistance

------------------------------------------------

Well, if you did not understand the map description's short explanation of these "altars", then i will try to explain them better now.  Each altar gives a certain gift (whether it be an artifact, or creatures).  This gift is LIMITED to the homeland in which the altar is.  If an altar on sand gives you the boots of the explorer, for instance, those boots are only good on the sand.  If you have those boots on your hero and he leaves the sand, then they will dissapear!  In this case, the # of boots of explorer you have in the sand is pretty meaningless.  No need to keep the boots alive, because the altar regenerates day 1 of every week.  So if you wanted to revisit the sand later then you could revisit the altar and it would give boots of explorer once again.  But for other types of gifts, you may want to keep them alive.. i.e. one of the altars gives 12 harpies.  it is in "rough" terrain.  you might want to keep the 12 harpies alive by keeping them inside the rough (of course you can just split them off your main army before you leave the rough, to avoid losing them), so that at the beginning of the next week you can visit the altar again, and then you will have 24 harpies.  or if an altar gave the thunder hammer, it might make sense to visit the altar again day 1 so that two of your heroes can have a thunder hammer.  So if you see an altar, it might make sense to plan accordingly so that you hit it on day 7 if possible, so that you may get the gift again the next day.

But altars are not the only feature of this map.  I think, after playing the map twice online already (for playtesting purposes), it would be fun even without the altars.  Mainly this is because there are a lot of monsters everywhere.  You must fight to get stuff; there is not too much free.  It is surprising.. even with few trees/stones, you can get your heroes to pretty high levels.  Apparently, the myth about fights not giving that much exp (probably coming from people playing maps like superheroes, and getting most of their experience from trees and teachers) is wrong.  As usual, there are several options on which way to go, at the start of the game.  Other surprises await..  you must play the map to find them

Laelth found a bug in his map Coldhearted, and the same bug was also in the 1.0 version of Walkabout.
It's been fixed now in Walkabout 1.1

download Walkabout 1.1 here -->  http://www.toheroes.com/h4maps/walkabout.zip

This was a quick update, but the map's been playtested already, so don't expect another update unless it's to tweak balance of map.. shouldnt be any bugs remaining in map.

i dun think so..

you may try to rush on it tc, but melee is banned, and the quickest way to get to opponent yields almost NO rewards, so, rushing, even if possible, would be  .. stupid, if your opponent is any good.

speaking from experience, i can tell you that tc does not need melee to rush on a relatively open map.

... just fyi

did i say/imply that he needed melee to rush?  don't think so  but it's certainly helped him to rush on certain maps  think he could've pulled that L17 paladin trick on utb without melee? heh

and regarding walkabout.. it's not a very open map.
it's kind of an interesting map.. in editor doesn't look very big, but it can actually take quite a bit of time to clear.  peons on guards inbetween players are pretty high.. the one set of guards that is somewhat weak is the random monsters in the snow.  but that way takes a lot of time to go, so it makes sense that guards should be weaker there.  And while it is possible to attack your opponent fairly early, I would say that walkabout is not a rush map because the rushing player just doesn't benefit from rushing at all.  He spends 5-6 days rushing (gets a little experience from killing the guards, but that's it), so really unless his opponent is a completely worthless player (in which case he deserves to lose ANYWAY), he should be stronger when the rusher arrives.  And if the defending player has scouted well, then he will know 2 days in advance that he is being rushed.  There is not many places on your side of the map that is not ~2 days ride away from castle.

also, tc, I was not aware that I have any "rush" maps?  Utb used to be a rush map in previous versions (well for you anyway, not for most others .. they never could) i agree, but Utb 2.0 is not a rush map.  Harder guards in middle, Shackles of War for each player (hafto fight a bit for it, but you'll get good exp in that fight, so its worth losing some creatures if necessary), and ring of negation easier to get.

and... why suddenly do all maps have to be impossible to rush on?  I agree that it should not be easy to rush on ANY map, but it's silly to have rushing be absolutely impossible on every single map.  some like the thrill of rushing, and you should not take out a part of the game that has always been there.

and, finally.. what IS rushing?  i've heard of people attacking opponent on circle in week 3, but Circle is not a "rush map"  ..

lol.  now that is funny.  tc doesn't rush.  all the rest of us are just slow.  he knows this, of course, because he's always the first to break through.  it's not his fault that his opponent didn't break through first.

respectfully amused,

hmm... damnit lol..

me and insa played the map 1 time, and we were chaos + order.  so we wanted to playtest the map the 2nd time with different towns, so i temporarily disabled chaos + order.  seems i forgot to re-enable them

well goddamnit there will be a 1.2 then
I hate making new versions for 1 silly error like this.. in fact, i won't make new version just yet.  If you wanna play the Walkabout map, go ahead and enable chaos + order towns for each player (but NOT might, it is supposed to be banned).  We will wait a few weeks before releasing a 1.2, so that if there are any bugs found, we can include them all on 1 patch.

Not a good idea Camel.  You cannot tell people to edit maps from the way they are posted.  Taht will only cause problems. If there is a map problem and you want it fixed , the proper protocol is to make a version update.

Sorry, but must be done this way.
