Just a thought.  Instead of putting Dean on that list, you should have put Clark on there.  Dean has no chance at all, it's almost funny, but sad really.  Clark at least won a primary...

We could do this as a blind taste test:

Who do you think is more qualified to be Commander in Chief of the US Military?

Candidate A : Recipient of a Silver Star, Bronze Star and 3 Purple Heart awards for service in Vietnam.

Candidate B : May or may not have shown up for his National Guard duty.  His base commander, Retired Brig. Gen. William Turnipseed says, "I don't remember seeing him."  He himself says, "There may be no evidence, but I did report." (Interestingly, this candidate has said similar things regarding weapons of mass destruction.  One would think someone with such a distinguished service record would be able to recognize a large space that is devoid of nuclear bombs when he sees one.)  However, there are poorly photocopied records which apparently show he was paid.  Well, up until when he left 6 months before his tour of service was finished, that is.

Unfortunately, Candidate B will probably be chosen.

For the record:

This is a nuclear bomb:

This is empty desert:

Well, you know, I guess they do look kinda similar.  It's easy to see how even a distinguished National Guardsman could mistake one for the other.

Since the Reverend Jesse Jackson is apparently not campaigning, I am going to have to cast my vote (at least in the Democratic Primaries) for the Reverend Al Sharpton.  It's time for the White House to get some new colors and flavors.

Hilary Clinton in 2008!

Fear In An American Citizen

I would just like to say that I am afraid for the future of this country.

I feel like the Bush administration has the greatest hold on our country since the days of the civil war. Right now we're split right down the middle on just about every issue. Not only are we split but, in the campaign process, people are yelling and screaming at other. High-level politicians and supporters are at each other's throats.

Bush is already a powerful man and Kerry is good opposition but Dean is really energizing the pro-active left against this current administration. I don't know what's going to happen to us but how realistic is to think that once this race is over people will let go of their feelings?

Is it possible that we might be on the verge of another civil war? I think Boston just drew the line with the judge that said a ban on gay-marriage would be unconstitutional.

Northern states, southern states, I don't think the line will be drawn such. I think the line will be drawn at:

Pro-life/anti-gay-marriage/pro-Iraq-war

vs.

Pro-choice/pro-civil-rights/anti-Iraq-war

Once again I don't know what to think but people aren't laughing anymore and some are taking this too personally.

As for myself I am pro-choice/anti-Iraq-war/anti-gay-marriage but I'm not willing to start another civil war over my beliefs.

Civil war?  Highly unlikely!

No one is threatening to withdraw from the Union or overthrow the Constitution and set up a new regime here.  As far as I can tell, the partisan bickering is politics as usual. Roe vs. Wade happened, what?, 30 years ago, and while people still debate it furiously, it hasn't torn the country apart yet.  I don't think the US is in danger of civil war.  When large groups of people abandon the political process and start doing the guerrilla thing, effectively setting themselves up as an army against the state, that is when we should worry.

So, I fianlly had my first political discussion with my wife regarding the impending presidential election.  If I thought there was nothing she could ever do again to shock me, I was sadly mistaken.

W.I.F.E:  So, what do you think of the Iraq war?

The_Gootch:  Not sure yet.  I feel kinda dirty about the whole thing.  There seems to be two schools of thought dominating...I dunno...the public consciousness.  The first is that we're fixing the mistake we made some 13 years ago by not getting him the first time.    Thus, lying to the public is easily justifiable because Saddam was such a bad guy.

W.I.F.E:  And the second?

The_Gootch:  Hmm...that the president told a bold-faced lie to convince the american people to go to war and no matter how bad Saddam was...we the people don't like being deceived by our leaders.  And we'll show our displeasure at the polls.

Strange, I haven't seen much righteous indignation rising from the masses.  What do you think?

W.I.F.E.:  Oh, I love him.

The_Gootch:  Who?  The president?

W.I.F.E.:  Yes him.  He's great.  I love his go get'em mentality.  We totally needed to do this.  Clinton was such a wimp.

The_Gootch(fighting furiosly to get his heart working again):  You're kidding, right?

W.I.F.E.:  Nope.  In fact, I'm going to vote for him come November.

The_Gootch:  You're crazy.  Isn't it true that the only issue that concerns women ages 18-30 is abortion?  You're pro-choice.  I can't believe you're switching sides.

W.I.F.E:  This is more important.  Why...you disagree?

The_Gootch:  Had I known you were a closet republican 4 years ago when I popped the question, I would have just kept my mouth shut.  I'd be living the happy life of a single man.

W.I.F.E:  Too late now.  You're stuck with me.

The_Gootch:  Doh!  That does it.  I'm gonna figure out a way to vote for Kerry--TWICE!!  By golly, Illinois won't let him down.

(Exits)

You could get your wife so stinkin' drunk the night before election day that she can't make it to the polls.  I'll send you a check for the alcohol if it will mean 1 less vote for Bush.
