NCsoft(tm) Corporation, the world's leading developer and publisher of online computer games, announces the appointment of Jon Van Caneghem as Executive Producer at NCsoft North America. Guess no JVC to help Ubisoft on homm5. Well, its still good to know that he is still in the gaming business, even though i never even heard of NCsoft lol...

That was my argument as well. In HoMM4, he was barely involved in the production, and that turned out just fine (and I blame the occasional glitches on the rushed production).
From what I heard, JVC's plans for HoMM5 (before the death of NWC) were mostly to invert as much changes as possible and make the game yet another carbon copy of HoMM2 with newer graphics.

If he was not involved strictly with HOMM IV then that could explain the utter failure that game was.
I was expecting from HOMM IV - just newer graphics, levels, story - nothing else... Really huge expansion pack.
With HOMM1,2,3 he achieved balance in turn-based strategy gaming comparable with games like chess, risk, monopoly or others.
It wasn't perfect, it was just right.
I blame it on the management, and audience demand. It reminds of Metallica The Black Album - everything before that was damn right and straight, and then .... it turned real black ... plastic metal music. Their management was at fault, he wanted the group to be liked not only by the core fans, but by everyone, and that was their utter failure (of course not then, but now).
So it's with HOMM and me. I just can't stand IV. It's simply bad.

But John Van Caneghem did make KINGS BOUNTY!
And that is a great game, isn't it?
It is Caneghem who has the brightest ideas I think, only he knows how to make a proper heroes game. I don't say Ubisoft won't make a great game or that they are unexperienced in some kind of way.
They can make a good game, but it won't be HEROES!!!!

Because he knows all those secrets. Like the source codes, etc. He could open up everything.
But this would never happen, it's just a imaginary thought.

LOL I don't think he can just give away the source code (if he's familiar with it in the first place) - there are copyright laws etc... It all comes down to Ubi again.
