Red Sox vs. (MF)Yankees

It's not easy being a Red Sox fan in the middle of Yankees country, but there are more of us than you'd imagine.

We've been waiting for this ever since basketball-gimp Boone tore our hearts out.

Sox are a better team than last year, Yankees are a worse team than last year.

Sox have Schilling.  Sox have Manny.  Sox have Johnny Damon aka Jesus aka Caveman aka the Passion.  Sox have David "Schrek" Ortizzle.  Sox have Petey.  Sox have Keith "Foulke you."

Yankees have overpaid "intangibles."

This year, Sox don't have Grady Little Brain.

Why not us?  IT IS ON!

The BoSox have tied it all up! The first time in MLB history to force a Game 7 from a 3 game deficit. ANY self-respecting sports fan owes it to themselves to watch Game 7 tomorrow. Starts 8pm EST on Fox.

Man talk about some LOOOOOONG games these past few days. Last night the game started at 5:15 pm. it ended after 11, that's almost 6 hours. All I can say is this is the best series of baseball I've ever seen win OR lose. The redsox have nothing to lose and everything to gain. The Yankees have everything to lose. The pressure is all on them. It's about time we see the Yankees sweat.

Holy ****! The Redsox came back after being down 3 games to none. The reverse sweep! It's never been done before in the history of baseball. Hell no one has ever come back to even force a Game 7!!! Only two teams had even forced a game 6. This was a magical year.

Great Game. I'm glad that Damon was able to get out of his slump. I still can't believe that Francona didn't leave Lowe in longer. I'd have given him 7, just like Curt.

What a Series!

Passion of the Christ (a.k.a. Caveman a.k.a. Johnny Damon) had the game of his life last night.  He was 3 for 29 in the first six games, then he makes up for it by dropping those two bombs in Game 7.  What an awesome series!  I enjoyed every minute of it, especially since it was the Yankees on the losing end of it.  It just goes to show you that you cannot buy a World Series.  Congrats, Sox fans and RSF.  Good luck in the World Series.

Great series, and I'm glad the Sox won. However, their pay

Now that the hangover has passed and I'm sure that this isn't a dream...

Flash back to game 3 of the ALDS, we had the Angels on the ropes and Vlad the impaler knocks it out of the park for a grand slam.  Goes to extra innings.  Big Pappi comes up with a man on in the bottom of the tenth, Angels bring in the lefty to face him.  As soon as the first pitch leaves the pitchers hands, we know whats going to happen.  My friends and I explode, the bartender buys us a round.  A smartass yankees fan says "Who cares, we're still going to beat you in game 7."

Game 1 of the ALCS, we're at the same bar we watched all of the ALDS in, same seats.  You can't mess with a good thing.  We've got Schilling on the mound, we didn't know how badly injured he was.  Before we know what's happening, Schilling is limping off, and the Yankees, the mother _______ Yankees have jumped out to a lead.  The Yankees fans are mocking us with shouts of "1918."  We rally late and we hope against hope that we're going to come back, but we fail.  We slink home with the laughter of pinstripes ringing in our ears.

Game 2.  Same bar, same seats.  This time it's Pedro.  Pedro pitches a good game despite all of the "Who's your daddy" chants, but not good enough.  Smug Yankees fans continue their taunting.  We're down 0-2, but we're going back to Fenway, so it ain't ova'.

Game 3.  We switched bars.  We had to do our part and clearly we were contributing to our teams failures by watching in the wrong place.  Three innings in, we trudge home.  I watch the rest of the game at my place, I can't take the shrill heckling of those pinstriped losers.

Game 4.  I watch with my roommate at our apartment.  We hold it close, but we're still behind and then, with us down by a run and only three outs left in our season, Mariano Rivera is on the mound.  Our seasons over, except for that tiny sliver of hope that never leaves a Sox fan's heart.  Millar walks.  Drunk-ass Millar.  Dave Roberts pinch runs for him and bang, before Rivera knows what hit him, Roberts is on 2nd.  Mueller, the proffessional who knocked a walk-off against Rivera earlier in the season smacks Roberts home and we're into extra innings.  I watch through the 11th, but I have to be in work early the next day. I have to go to sleep.

I wake up to a brand new day with brand new hope.  My roommate says there were tears in his eyes when Shrek knocked the home run that kept our hopes and dreams alive.  I missed it.

Game 5.  Our apartment again, but with more people.  We know a good thing when we get it.  Another battle, more heroics from Shrek.  A marathon of a game, but I watch every single second of it.  We're going back to the Bronx.  IT AIN'T OVA'!

Game 6.  Schilling, blood staining his sock from where the doctors sutured his crippled ankle together takes the mound.  Our hearts are in our necks -- how is he going to respond?  It doesn't take long to calm us down, he shuts them down.

Then, Bellhorn, who almost gave away Game 5 on botched defensive play after botched defensive play and who's bat had turned into a noodle slams a 3 run home run...  or does he?  The umpire says it didn't leave the park when clearly it did and ricocheted off a fan.  Is this the return of the phantom tag?  We're screaming at the TV, we can't believe it.  But wait, the umpires are conferencing, a call can't possibly go our way, can it?  It does, the umpires get it right for once.

Bottom of the 8th.  Jeter on first.  A-rod bloops a grounder for an easy out.  Then comes the defining moment of the series and probably of A-frauds career.  He tries to cheat.  He swats the ball out of Arroyo's hand.  Runner interference.  But no!  The umpire calls him safe and by the time the dust clears, A-rods on second and Jeter has scored.  We dodged one bad call, only to be impaled on an even worse one...  but the umpires conference again.   The correct call is made.  Yankee stadium cracks, they're throwing crap on the field and at the players, it's absolutely surreal.  Then riot cops, goddamn riot cops come out.  My friend wonders if they're about to call the game and award a forfeit to the Red Sox.  But they don't, and the game continues.

We win.  History has been made, A-rod's legacy will become "the slap."  All he had to do was take his out and Jeter's on second if not third, but no, he tries to cheat and it hurts his team.  Hindsight's 20/20, but now I'm glad that we didn't get him in the offseason.

Game 7 was almost anticlimactic.  It's over by the end of the 2nd, although the terror of losing it didn't end until out number 27.  Johnny finally comes through.

The Red Sox have just completed the greatest comeback in baseball history.  The Yankees have completed the greatest collapse.

We pour out into the streets of Manhattan, into the bars barely holding back ecstatic tears.

But in the end, it's just a game.  And it was a good one.  We ended the night doing shots with Yankees fans.

4 more.  Still, we believe.

Incorrect. After the Nomar trade, they unloaded a LOT of money. Their payroll has dropped considerably.

Here's the difference in my opinion between the Redsox and the Yankees. The Redsox sign players that will improve their team. The Yankees sign any available superstar and outbid the other organizations. The Redsox spend not around 90 to 100 million dollars. The Yankees spend 150 million dollars.

Number of signed Superstar Players over the last year.

Redsox: Curt Shilling.

Yankees: Gary Sheffield, Alex Rodriguez (note that they actually pay additional money to the Rangers, so they spend like 33 million for him), Kevin Brown. There are other players that I'm not sure if they are trades or whatnot. But that's 3 just this year. The previous year, they signed numerous ones as well.

Who did the Redsox sign? Pokey Reese, Bellhorn... The Redsox for the most part keep their own players. The Yankees seem to sign numerous superstars every year. Note that several of their pitchers were signed recently for big contracts. The Redsox signed one for the first time since Pedro Martinez back in 90s. As for position players, they signed Manny Ramirez who knows how long ago. Any big salaries that the Redsox now pay are to keep the players that make up an already successful organization other than Shilling.

The Angels did something similar. They took their already good baseball team and made it more well-rounded by signing Guerrero, that's one player. The Redsox are like any other good team. They keep their good players where they can, make good trades and sign a couple players here and there to improve their team.

Let's not kid ourselves

The entire playoffs isn't a battle of the "haves" and the "have-nots," it's a battle amongst the "haves."

Playoff teams and payroll rank:
Yankees(1)
Red Sox(2)
Angels(3)
LA(6)
Braves(8)
Cardinals(9)
Astros(12)
Minnesota(19)

Only Minnesota can be claimed to be the scrappy little guys with a straight face.
Admittedly, the gap between Yankees and Red Sox is pretty big, if you combine the Red Sox and the Minnesota payrolls, its still less than the Yankees'.

Yea AROD sure did hit that ball out of his hand with a limp wrist .

I am proud of the sox for over 80 yrs they had the Balbino curse when they traded The Babe to NY Yankees for some reason I dont know.

Ever since they never ever could win the world series & never beat the Yankees.

They made it to the World series 4 times since then.
2 times before 1948 vs the St Louise Cardinals in a 7 game series in both to get wiped out.

Again in I think it was 1976 vs The Cincinatti Reds (Big Red Machine)
Johnny Bench,Pete Rose,Tony Perez etc.

Boston had a 2 game lead over Reds but  some how Reds miracously took them to the title.

Most famous & last world series until now was 1986 vs the New York mets where Boston had the game won until one of the must rediculous blunders in the game when Bill Buckener missed an easy grounder to first.

& lost the series.

Now they finally beat the Yankees in the playoffs which if it did reverse the curse I can live with that but to win the World series now would end it.

Last yr should of been even special because the only two teams with curses should both made it to world series but Chicago got screwed by a fan or should I say the curse.

Now Chicagos curse happened while they were in the world series in I think it was late 50's when a known fan who always came with his cub one day was told he couldnt go in with the cub.
He put a curse on the Cubs to never ever make the world series ever again & lost the World series they are in.

Now everytime they seem to have it to finally break the curse somethang happens like last yr in 3-2 game series over Marlins when they had like a 7 point lead in 8th.

When a foul ball comes & a fan steals the foul ball right out of the players glove.

After that should of been out the marlins got thier runs to win that game & the next game after.
