A 4-year-long thread?

That's quite impressive.

Hello all, long time no see.

Happy days are here again (and none too soon given the mess the Republicans left us and which, no doubt, they're still trying to blame on Clinton).  They're predictable, at least.

That's an exaggeration. There are certainly some people in this new generation that have reasonable views. Like- uh, let me think... You know, I'll get back to you on that.

Hi Consis,

Nice to see you and nice to be remembered.

Work is slow around the holidays, so I got bored.  Just dropping by to say "hi."

And I couldn't resist the urge to gloat a little over the elections (mainly for Wolfie's benefit).

Hope you're doing well.

Hi mvassilev,

No, I probably won't stay.  I have little time for chatting and posting these days, but thanks for asking.

Hello Laelth.  Would've loved to see you stick your big noggin in around here in the runup to the election.  I would've enjoyed a rematch of state predictions.

Hello, Gooch.  I gave up making predictions after 2004.  Mine were so bad, I didn't dare stick my neck out in 2008.

Hiya, Acu.  I's been a long time.  I'm doing pretty well, thanks.  Hope you are too.

Laelth,

I am making movies now......you're just the person I need to speak with about making a fan-made Heroes of Might Magic III movie. I seriously need to talk to you. I want to make sure I do it justice by the knowledge you hold in that moldy brain of yours. I know you know that I know that you knew I knew....uh.......LoL

Gootch I need you too.

You two are the only guys from ToH I can talk to without getting flamed.

Mvass don't worry bro I never left HC. I read stuff here like It's an addiction. I wonder if there's a treatment for that.....

In case anyone is interested...
Now that Sen. Arlen Specter (R D-PA) switched parties, the Democrats have a supermajority in the Senate. This isn't good.
And Inhofe, idiot that he is (I apologize profusely, as he is from my state), thinks that it's good for the Republican Party!

I don't really understand why Arlen Specter's "defection" makes a lick of difference.  Specter hasn't voted like a Republican in ages.  Maybe I've missed something.

It may actually help the Republicans.

Dem supermajority isn't a good thing?  Are you effin' kidding me?

This is the best chance for sensible people to break a filibuster I've ever seen.

Godspeed senator Specter.

Corribus:
Losing moderates is good for Republicans? So when the party shrinks to 20 extremist whackos, it'll be doing really awesome.

Gootch:
Remember, when the Republicans controlled Congress and the Presidency, that wasn't very fun. Unless the Democrats are kept in check, the same thing will happen.

Sensible people? Who? Harry Reid, who is elected just because he's a Mormon (plus he has no views of his own)? Robert Byrd, the half-dead ex-KKK member? Ted Kennedy, the drunk murderer who is responsible for the repugnant No Child Left Behind Act (not to mention the so-called "immigration reform" that he tried to pass)? Roland Burris, the guy who has his tomb already set up (with all of his accomplishments, no less. And don't forget who nominated him!)? Who? Tell me.

If the Democrats are allowed to have such power, we will have spendulus after spendulus, bailout after bailout, and the unions will run rampant on the streets as the lifeblood of the country is sucked towards the decaying auto companies. Meanwhile, spending will balloon, regulation will vastly increase, and we'll go down a dark path that we don't want.

Did you like the Republicans?
Do you really think the Democrats are that much better? Honestly.

Think of a gay black Hispanic pot-smoking atheist, and how much someone like Pat Robertson hates him. Now think of the productive entrepreneurs - the great risk-takers and innovators who depend on the globalized economy to prosper and produce wealth. The leftists hate him as much as Pat Robertson hates the other guy.

I see your point. And I suppose if you evaluate it from the viewpoint of the party itself, it's true.

On the other hand, what really matters in congress is votes, not # of members in each party.  Specter's going to vote the same way he's always voted, and so from a policy standpoint this doesn't really make any difference.  When I said it may help the Republicans in the long run, what I meant is the following.  In the next election, Specter will run as a Democrat.  So, the worst that can happen (assuming he wins his primary) as far as the GOP is concerned is that Specter wins re-election, albeit as a Democrat this time, and the status quo is maintained.  On the other hand, the Republicans can nominate someone to run against him and possibly have a more conservative person win (unlikely - Specter is well-liked in PA).  If Specter was still a Republican, it's possible a Democrat much farther to the left could win and take his seat.

I guess what I'm saying is that the Republicans are guarunteed to have at least another term of a Senator at least as far right leaning as Specter, a guaruntee they wouldn't have if Specter was running as a Republican.
