Well, the thing is (oh this is giving it away) that the Tear is located less than two days from the town. With Logistics at Expert, its a day or less. Once you see the Demon Lord coming, just attack it. They don't get strong fast enough to destroy you before getting the Tear.

Ok dudes,u have the basic idea but none of uz is smart enuf to hir a hero for just 3000 gold and let him look for the tear of asha.keep godric near the captured goldmin so the enemy cnt attack him without giving isabel(defendin the castle)a day to reach the demon lord himself.i completed the mission on hard difficult ,at the end,i had 300 marksmen,18 inquisitors,5 arch angels and 25 paladins just for godric!

After rescuing Isabel, Agrael attacks you. Isabel should be your stronger hero right now, so use her to fend him off. His first army is rather pathetic. Now, the cutscene should inform you of the Tear of Asha making your armies unstoppable, and you are told to find it. Take Godric and leave Isabel with a sizeable force. You may have to fend off Demon Lords several times before you find the tear, and each Lord has a stronger army. So, it goes without saying that you should find the tear as fast as possible. After the Tear is found, you should have an easy time giving Godric a small force to meet Nicolai. You may get attacked on the way there, so don't give him a puny force. About a hundred Squires + Griffins and some Palidens should fend them off easily. Upon breaking through the garrison at the end, Nicolai appears and confronts Agraels troops. Cutscene, and end of Mission. That should cover it.

Okay, you start with a sizeable army. I'd suggest playing out the week's time you have to rescue Isabel to get resource bonuses, but ere to the side of caution. Don't waste too much time. After freeing her, i'd suggest killing the Spectral Dragons to the northwest of the town; they are guarding a sizeable cache of gold and a mine. That extra 1000 gold a day will come in handy. Don't lose too many troops in this battle. Now, use training on your peasants. By now, Isabel should be able to train for next to nothing. That gets you archers. you can go the extra step for Footmen, but i wouldn't waste the gold. Taking a secondary hero to the east for some resource looting may prove useful. Sell of any resource you don't need. Once you fin the tear, your income should be around 10,000 a day. That will simplify the mission incredibly. to my memory, you end up with a good army in all. Imperial Griffins really destroy Succubi. They kill them fast. So, in essence, don't waste a lot of troops in battle. It takes skill to win this mission without any loss, but it is the fifth mission...

PS - You'll find that Squires hardly ever take casualties, no matter the situation. That's the AI's genius for you.

If you still need help, I'm here for you.

If it's hard to take them down you can recruit the Cavaliers east from godrics start location (But remember they will only join godric).

My advices for mission 5

first thing to do choose the artifact as the bonus. luck is pretty good. go with godric, free isabel give her all the troops. take the town with as few looses as possible. go and take the gold mine. go back to town with isabel but godric next to the gold mine so he is safe from all attacks. defend in the town with isabel. buy secondary heroes to scout the area. (to risky with weak godric cause he might die) save irina to take the grails and mines with her griffins. and after all long time of defending and stalking with minor heroes you should have a big army. this is when you use isabel to go and kill the garrision. and since she by now should have a very big army split it into two so godric can defend the town. then when the garrision is taken go back with isabel and go down to the garrision with godric. and you have won. oh and by the way... save a lot.

my build for isabel. war machines, leadership, attack, light magic, defense. this is a standard build for me with might oriented haven heroes.

So you have the boots of levitation equipped from the crypt in underground? Naturally you won't try to pass over the bridge again, just over the river.

There is a common 1.6 bug on this map. Agrael is somewhere on the map. Just search after him and kill him. later ddemon lords will spawn through the portals, just kill them too.

The big gate in the 5th scenario

I started play through the Haven campaign the second time, since I remembered there was a gate in the end with insane number of demons. I browsed this thread a bit and saw, that some people have managed to win that battle. I know it is not necessary, but I still would like to try. Therefore I would like to hear from people, who have tried that battle - what numbers should I take with me and how long should I grow my army, especially since the garrison also grows in time, if I am not mistaken. All strategy, suggestions and tips concerning this battle are welcome, as I don't think I have ever done a battle with so big stacks.

Should not be too hard if you have dark magic and frenzy/puppet. Anyway such garrison battles are a matter of time, press end turn button enough times and you'll eventually overpower them At some time I had left a hero to guard my town with 2-3 week army(in case a demonlord spawned to attack) and used my main to scout the underground and the parts of the map that I had not yet uncovered. There are probably some artifacts that can help but it's been almost 2 years since I played it.

I don't have Dark Magic, I have Light. As for overpowering the garrison with pressing end turn enough - that does not work either. I conquered the Inferno city using Instant Travel to bypass the garrison and then stood by it. There are seven stacks of creatures in it, numbers in three of them remain constant, the reamining four - Archdevils, Pit Lords, Nightmares and Succubus Mistresses - increase by 5, 10, 15 and 20 respectively each DAY! However good my growth is in my city with the Tear of Asha, I cannot compete with that. So unless anyone comes up with an idea, showing it can be done without using Dark Magic, I'm giving up.

I know, I just wanted to try defeating the northern garrison. That is the sole reason I started to play that campaign again. However, it seems to me it cannot be done without Dark Magic.

original campaigns in TOE

Hi,

I wanted to post this as a separate questions, but apparently was unable since I am new here. This seemed to be the most appropriate of the threads on the first few pages to post this. Anyway, has anyone come up with a way to play the original and HoF campaigns using TOE? I found a web site that claims to allow you to do this:

http://www.heroes-fr.com/en/original_campaigns.php

but couldn't figure out how to work it. I tried putting them in the UserMod folder, but that didn't work. Can anyone help me?

Thanks

You should put those .h5u files in the "UserMODs" folder, not "UserMOD"

I means UserMODs. But the files are not just .h5u files. They are zipped files with a whole bunch of other folders inside them. And there are two zipped files that it says to put in UserMODs, but both have, for example, a Maps folder, so one tries to overwrite the other.

Are you using Internet Explorer? It downloads packages as .zip files even when they are not.

So place the ".zip" files you download in the UserMODs folder (without extracting), but rename them to change their extension to .h5u

Problem with crypt (the trap side mission)

I need to get the boots of levitation from the crypt. I've read about the invisible artifact bug and have tried unequipping my boots.

but I'm not even able to 'enter' the crypt. the 'rearing unicorn' pointer shows red over it. if i double click, the hero moves to it, there is a little hourglass pointer for a second, and then it goes back to the rearing red unicorn. ... nothing happens ... repeated, same results, etc.

when it said in the description there were guys haunting it, I thought, well maybe it's not a garrison, maybe I have to kill all the guys down here. did that, of course now i know it has to be a bug.

maybe I patched up mid mission and that messed it up? still I'd rather just use a boots of levitation hack or something if there's no way to fix this.

edit: and by crypt i mean the little building down there in the caves, not the caves themselves, i am able to use the stairs.
