A Gamers Guide

There are so many games out there, that the chances that someone could go trough all of them are very slim. No matter how many games you’d play the number of those you haven’t played will still be greater. And more, even with the games you’ve played, you’ll probably never be able to say that you did everything there could be done. So I thought to make a list of all the experiences you should have when playing games. Mind that this list is not an objective one, but more like a personal point of view, and you’re welcome to add things to this list.

  Play a whole night
Probably most of you already did this. There’s nothing like the feeling you get when you start a game “for a few hours”, only to find yourself playing until the break of dawn. Games that can help you achieve this: HOMM, any RTS, any MMORPG. You can’t be a real gamer if you haven’t done this.

Start a game even if you don’t intend to play
Man you like this game. But you are not really in the mood to play right now. No problem. Just start it and watch. Not once did I logged in Guild Wars only to see what’s going on with my guildies, or Vice City only to listen to the radio(that country music station rocks). That means that you really like the game.

Humiliate you opponents in multiplayer
I know that it’s not the nicest thing to do…. but the satisfaction!!! How many of you ever played Worms and pushed your opponent last worm into the water using the finger, or eliminated the whole team with a well placed dynamite. Sometimes this is even better then sex.

Play solitaire
Maybe you are a Cancer, and your mommy deleted all your games. Don’t worry, there is a solution: play solitaire, the most played game in history. Hardcore version: play solitaire with real cards  because she restricted your access to the computer.

Be violent for no reason
If you can’t do that in a game, then where can you do it? Release your negative energies, be as mad as you’d like to be. Just start Carmageddon and kill all the pedestrians, or kill everyone in a town in Gothic(preferably by night), or kill a single person with the redeemer in Unreal. It’s called catharsis – purification of soul trough art. And belive me it works.

Finish a game in a language you don’t understand
Preferably an RPG(beat-em-ups don’t count here). Never tried Diablo – Russian version? Then you should. You can’t understand a damn thing, but what the hell, your enjoying the whole thing. Any other RPG will do, and the more dialogs the better. Also don’t forget to try and imagine what they are saying. Tons of fun I tell you.

Have sex in a game
Yes you have to do this one too. Overcome your shines and ask that gorgeous she-elf  that helps you farm for gold if she doesn’t want to take you relationship one step forward. She probably won’t mind you’re a dwarf.

Pretend to be a girl
Note: also applicable for mIRC or any other instant messaging. Let everyone you’re a woman and then beat the crap out of them, and of course afterwards make fun ofthem for being defeated by a girl. Everyone is doing it so why shouldn’t you?

Be active in a community
Doh There’s no better way to feel more “in-game”. Write in forums, write a strategy guide, a mod, a map, anything.

Play a 10 year old game
You heard some good things about this game, but never played it. Getting over it’s rudimentary graphic it’s hard, but it doesn’t matter, now is the time to play it.

Act in a game like you would act in real life
Your running to complete the mission, have to cross the street but…. the red light is on. Just be a good citizen and wait until it goes green. Note: don’t try this with Sims, because they already do things like in real life.

Dress like a character :
Don’t worry about those extra ponds or the lack of muscles, you can still dress up like Lara Croft or like Serious Sam. Let the world know you like the game. Hey, you there in the back, that hawaiian shirt doesn’t mean your from Vice City.

Dawn of War until 3am frequently, all night a few times with some mates lol
We played a 2v6 against the AI on a map where we had to defend two entrances to our base against 6 armies, but it was kinda like helms deep we forced them into a bottleneck and took them out with bombing runs.

I do this in Guild Wars sometimes too, just have it open when I'm doing hw or on msn or something and let my baby Hydra run around and chat to some ppl, check out the stock market I rarely find the time to do missions anymore though

Pretty much every game of DOW I win we rub it in the opponents face, doesn't build up a good reputation but at least I get noticed when I log on

Might and Magic VIII I sometimes go on just to wipe out a whole city with Armageddon spell, or Oblivion and go and asassinate some people with my new vampire

Only in fable (which sucked; come on my guy was the epitomy of masculinity with rippling muscles and a huge sword, but he only lasted a few seconds with her )

Might and Magic VIII is getting there, I'll still play it when it's 10 lol

I do that in Oblivion sometimes, roleplay.

Become famous/imfamous in your online community
Get to the point where whenever you log on someone you've never seen before will say "Hey!" or a clan will get pissed and start swearing at you. When waiting in the lobby talk constantly to up your reputation.

Just don't spam. Lobby spammers are the bane of my existence

Talk to a stranger randomly like you know them.
Then when they say they don't know you play along with it like it's a joke.

Challenge someone threateningly and then quit just before you fight
In an RTS preferably, make them furious and take a long time to get to the actual game and quit just before it loads.

Be late to work/school because of a game
You played last night, but couldn't keep your eyes open to finish that damn level. No problem then, whake up early in the morning and keep trying until you succed. Yes, I know that at 10 you have to be at work or at school, but they will surely understand (not) that you had to do it. You will be probably tossed around, but in doesn't matter because in that morning you achieved one of your greatest deeds. Hardcore version: call in sick for two days to finish the game.
