Quote: I have all the patches installed and my mouse is just a regular old mouse and is not broken hehe, the wheel works fine with everything else. I followed your instructions by clicking on the map window and scrolling the wheel. It still did not zoom out. If it is an incorrect value set for one the parameters, is there anyway to fix it? Does anyone know how?
I took a look at the map editor config file but I couldn't see any parameters that look like they might do it. You can look at it as well, just open it with WordPad:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East\profiles\editor_a2.cfg
For reference, here's what mine looks like:
//============================================================================
// map editor section
setvar disable_splash_screen = 1
setvar enable_drag_and_drop = 0
setvar pitch_direction = 1
setvar report_safe_refs = 0
setvar map_editor_mode = 1
setvar dialog_scene_editor_fixed_window = 0
You might try setting the map_editor_mode = 1 (or any value higher than 1 such as 8 or 9) to see if that helps.
(If you don't have ToTE, it's the editor.cfg file in the comparable location in the H5 directory tree.)
Other than that, I'm all out of ideas. You might try posting this question over on the Celestial Heavens mapmaker guild.

Thanks, but I wish I could have actually resolved the problem. I've set up the H5 editor on two machines, one running XP and one running Vista. One mouse was a Logitec G5, and the other was Dell generic. It zoomed in and out without fuss on both machines.
You can zoom in and out while playing the game, right? (I don't know how this relates, but it might.)
You know, it probably might not do any good at all, but you might try uninstalling the game and then installing it again. The editor was added with one patch, but I forget which one. Then, there was one patch (#4 I think) that combined the earlier ones and did some improvements. Anyway, maybe if you installed the patches using the combo patch and then the last few patches instead of installing all of them, it might help.

Sure, go here:

I sure hopes this fixes the problem. I know how frustrating this type of problem can be. Making H5 maps is one of the best hobbies I have, and I really hate to see anyone who desires to do it be thwarted.

I want to copy grass water etc too :/ this what you adviced copies only other things but no terrain like water or grass ...
Help pls
As far as I know, you cannot select and copy the terrain tiles because they are not objects per se. However, you can re-paint the cloned map with the terrain brush without disturbing the objects you copied over.
Maybe I don't completely understand your problem. When I was in a similar position as I think you are in, I simply added the underground to the first map, then made a copy of it to create the basis for the second map. Then, I turned off the underground option in the first map so it went back to being a simple one-level map. Then, I proceeded to modify the second map as required. The end result was two similar maps, one with one level, and other with two levels.

Assuming you used the default location for the installation of H5, look here:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East\H5_MapEditor.exe
This path is for the ToTE map editor. If you have H5 or HOF, look in the same place but in the directory tree for your game.

Then this is the page you want. Download the patches - the Map Editor is included in one of them, but I'm not sure which.

Well, I opened the TOTE editor and patiently tried each of the templates. I could not create a sea with islands. I took a peak at the RMG you get from within the game and saw additional templates, but I didn't have time to try them. You might have the time. Other than that, I don't have any ideas. Maybe some expert out there can make a custom template that has a sea and islands, but I suspect that it is a difficult task.
