Yeah, but that'd mean that poor Geny can't upload his photo... 
I've got a better idea: Allow people that have more then, say, 100 posts AND an amount of QP equal to or more then 0 to upload their pictures.
There are already a lot of people desperately trying to get QP's...

That would mean that nearly all the hc members would be able to store pics on the HC server, and that would definitely not be a good thing.
I think that 3 qps or more would be good, since only about 9 pages on the memberlist have members with 3 qps or more, and there are a lot of pages of hc members

Then make it 150 posts, but if you reach that amount, it probably means you like it here, and that you're going to stay here for a long time. So you'd deserve to upload it, no? There are a lot of people registered on HC that just asked one question, and then never came on again. But how many people reach 100 or 150?

There aren't that many new pics that uploading them will be a problem for mods at this stage. Members could still post their pic using photobucket or whatever until we can transfer them - no prob 
@Pecu, you know that is a pretty good idea. I think it is about the same amount of work though - it doesn't really take all that much more trouble to delete posts if you have to go to each page and save them anyway.
I would rather see the old thread cleaned then to just lock it, but if older members would rather it this way then ok . Pand should be back soon, I'm not going to do anything until then, or more people have had a chance to comment.

Acu and Consis: Why do you guys want to lock the thread? It's probably the longest continuously active thread at HC. So why the heck would you want to lock it? I don't get it. What purpose does that serve?
I say if it ain't broke don't fix it. Sure the spam should be cleaned, but leave the rest alone.
I think even the red X place holder posts should be kept. To get rid of those would be to delete several pages of good stuff that's still good even without the pics. It would be like deleting an entire era of HC. Very likely those people just lost their host or ran out of room so they deleted old pics. If HC self hosts, maybe we could get replacement pics from some of those people.
As far as cleaning, maybe just ask people to delete their own spam first.

Well it's either that or deleteting alot of old history in it.
It's not really any of our choices anyways.
It's the mod & Vals choice.
My prediction regardless of what anyone says is this.
Delete the spam on the thread.
Organise the pics in Vals server.
If the pics goes into the new server Val is talking about.
Then this thread will die anyways.
Pics will be moved etc.
CHanges is what happens.
I learned that today when my best friend I known for almost 20 yrs basically said F you to me for some screwed up reasons.
Change is change.

I don't see why the old history needs to be deleted. Maybe I misunderstand. I assume if the pics are uploaded to a new HC host that the links would have to be changed to point to the new host. So the reader would never know it had been done.
One way to make it easier to fix the links would be to use a similar path in the new host so some kind of search and replace could be used. For example if the old link was this
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l70/CragHack/offense.jpg
then the pics could be moved to the new host with a path like this
http://vals_host/i92.photobucket.com/albums/l70/CragHack/offense.jpg
That way you can just do a search and replace in all the posts and fix it lickedy split. You search for http:// and replace with http://vals_host/. That will work no matter what the original host was.

Well if it turns out that fixing the links isn't as easy as I said, then maybe get some volunteers and split the work. Maybe each person could do 10-20 pages or something. The same thing could be done with the index. I'll volunteer to help if it's needed. (unlike Kookie I'm ALWAYS on holiday)
Oh, the song is the Commodores. But I cheated and had to look it up.

They all can help work on it if they like.
I personally dont think we need to go through every page 7 delete stuff that was posted yrs ago.

Well, I don't want to see the thread ruined, so I'll volunteer as much time as needed. When I got DSL last fall and could load the pictures fast I went through the entire thread from page one. I thought it was neat going through it. I'm very slow at reading so I like picture books.
To stay on topic,
maybe Neil Young can help Harvest the pictures.

There seems to be a lot of concern about deleting history... There are lots of threads here from the old days. This thread is supposed to be a thread that shows pictures of members. The way it is now, it takes time to download the pages - man I didn't even go in there when I was on dial up {some people still are you know}.
At the moment there are 10s of pages with no pictures, I don't see this as being worthwhile.
You know maybe it is because I come from the HC generation that had the VW, but have spent hours laughing and having fun with members there only to have the threads deleted in a week. That history is lost - there are threads in tavern that are less "gutsy" then our deleted threads. I guess what I am saying is that you can retain memories and still have good times without having to save every word.
If I'm going to clean the thread, I want to do it properly or not at all
So, if people do feel strongly about this, then I think Pandora and Pecu's idea is the only real solution - lock the thread and start a new one showcasing existing photos which we can build upon.
It seems like a waste of server space though. *shrug*
Bini most of the people whose pics are gone don't care enough about this place to post a smiley, let alone restore their pictures, but if you can get them to then

Actually the beginning of the thread predates me also. Most of those people were still around when I first came to HC, but I didn't know any of them.
As far as people who don't come here any more, old timers stop in here several times a year for a surprise visit.
I'm not one of those people who thinks old threads are somehow sacred and can't be deleted. Like I didn't care enough about the Sir Steven thread to even bother posting.
If there were several picture threads like there are multiple text threads about the same topic I wouldn't care. But like I said, the picture thread is probably by far the longest continuously active thread at HC. It's not just history, it's a constantly growing timeline of HC members.

ahhh I see
You have a point there. I just had a flick through the first few pages and there are still some pics there from the oldtimers
Let me explain fully what it is I want to do:
1) delete all posts/parts of posts that have broken links - e.g. this is me upsidedown X
2) delete any posts that relate to these delete pics unless they are otherwise really funny - to both current and future members {i aknowlege this is a judgement call, but have been around spam enough now to see what may hold}
3) Keep discussion to posts that are still there- and which will be preserved for all time in the HC server. {unless it it negative spam}
I think that there are enough old pics still there, that most members will still have at least one post in there {discussing them}, so the timeline may still be valid.
Like I said though - it is up to you all
