I hate to say this, ryche, but I think that wasn't necessary to say - the bit about "obvioulsy not playing the game much"

It just seems a bit more mean spirited than is necessary in this conversation.

And Icon, yes, I hope the heroes won't all end up the same in H4. That will make the game much more interesting.

Ryche you havent read my last post. I admitted that I understood the question in a slightly different way

And this is the last time I reply to a post made by 13year old. Mature ppl dont use words like clown in a discussion.

BTW I have played the game enough to know that at certain level skills dont matter. Only luck wins the game. Even if you think your Ryland is good, Ill beat you with the worst hero if I have more luck (better random artifacts/easier random monst. etc./better spells in magic tower). I assume that none knows the map or both players know it well.

Rouge: There are lots of possible interesting classes. Lets just hope that more than few will be usefull.

Ok point taken, and I apologize. I'm not 13, just opinionated. Luck can win this game sometimes, but 80% of the time the better player will win. Better players know how to chain armies thru 8 heroes on day 4 to maximize thier area as early as possible. Better players will outplay you just about everytime, because they can take the map apart quicker, and while you may be messing around somewhere on the map, i have done my area, and have crag attacking you in week 3 and you had no idea it was coming. Icon? do you play online? Do you play in any tourneys? Playing against the comp is a severely limiting experience, and wil never give you a good indication of how good your skills are. ToH players are the best around, give them a decent magic hero and they will wipe you every time.

My mouth runs away sometimes

Umm Rychen

Ichon was a captain in season 3.  He never cracked the colonel barrier but he had a decent win/loss record last season.

And here's the other side of the coin.  Rychen is one of the best players in toh.  Ranked as 37 in the top 100 of season 3.  Considering that there were over 2000 active players in toh (season 3) that is VERY impressive.

Unlike some of the people on this board, both of you guys deserve respect, imo.

*sigh*

I'm an idiot!

I'm afraid that the only one that opens their mouth too much here is me Rychen.

I never noticed that this was a different Ichon.  *sigh*

That's what I get for posting while tired.  Sorry.

Well.

I agree with Rychee, plain and simple because what Icon has said about MIGHT only hero is as unrealistic as a MAGIC only hero. What, you're allowed to use might (i.e. creatures) AND spells like blind, but a might player is only allowed to use creatures?

Face facts that a MAGIC only hero doesn't have any thing to use other than spells. And if you had magic only, blinding seven stacks will do what?

A might hero like Crag Hack with armour and offense will tear you apart from retaliation strikes alone.

And any fool would pick up a spell book for 500 gold and have a little dispell magic in there.

Let's look at it this way. Magic hero with a might artifact (lets say Centaurs Axe) and a Might hero with a spellbook, 20 spell points and level 1 spells

I can't see any real way that the magic hero would win unless they had implosion and 400 sp

Trust me, I've wasted good magic heroes with might heroes before. It's a piece of cake, so bring your lily livered finger twiddling beard stroking spells all the way here and I'll show you why magic doesn't really exist.

Magic heroes are not useless

I find that both might and magic heroes have their uses depending on the map, settings, spell, etc. On a random map (medium or large) I usually pick a magic hero. There are lots of spells available from scrolls, spell boxes, pyramids, etc. Usually I find at least one or two level 4 scrolls any time. If you learn DD or Fly ( or all level 5 spells from a box for that matter) I rather have a magic hero with a lot of spell points than any might hero. Its very difficult to stop it afterwards.

On a XL map when games are longer might heroes are better of course. So I guess it all depends on the particular mao and your game style.

Rychen: Thx, Im glad we didnt go into a flame fight

I must explain that I have totally different experience with HoMM than you. I never played online and I never play with a comp. (once I finished campaign and thats it). My exp. is limited to playing hotseat with 3 more guys. We have palyed vitually every map that 4 ppl can play (2 vs 2).
I assure you that we are all skillfull players (we know all the tricks ). Once or twice my friend played online and he was very disappointed with his opponent. My point is that I play with players at least as skillfull as me - only luck or better knowledge of a map wins the game. Imagine playing with ppl you know well and are as skillfull as you and you both know/dont know the map.

Jiels: I now the pain of posting while tired. Nice to meet you.

Shae_Trielle: I agee with Rychen too. But Ill never forget when my mighty army (Stronghold, over 50 Ancient B., Craig about lvl 30) was destroyed by Inferno (huge Spell Power, Berserk, Implosion, Blind, Mass Slow and so on) cause I forgot to use Orb of Anihilation. lol

Rychen:

One more thing. I would like to play with you. Do I have to be a ToH member to do that. Im not the best as ToH standards are concernd but I am fairly good, I make few mistakes and Im a quick learner.

Email me or send me IM if you are interested.I would appriciate the lesson.

Might AND Magic

Sos put it right there : might heroes usually for toh maps, why ? because spells are limited. Magic usually on randoms because of all the scrolls, pandoras and probable spellbinder's hat all the tomes (which are banned from almost all toh maps (or at least some of the tomes).

Its true, you can get an opponent who may not like the way the game is going and drop, that sux, which is why I tend to play a limited amount of players. There are so many ToH players who are better than me its not funny and its kind of scary when they kick my ass like a newbie. But for a great experience (and lesson) in Homm, its great to pick up a game with a ToH vet, prob is, not many at all play for fun which is kinda sad, and sometimes I'm guilty of that too.

Icon, you dont have to be a member of ToH to play me, just try and catch me in the MSN gaming zone (under the same name) and bother me for a game

One thing I have noticed about you Icon is that you're one of the rare people who love multiplayer and actually know what they're talking about when it comes to Heroes. I hope that your online experiences (you and your friends) weren't shattered with a simple game with a newbie. The guys in ToH take all of their games seriously, even the fun ones! LOL!

You should come to MSN Zone and visit the Heroes room. And if you see Rychee or me, or anyone who you recognize from the forum ask us for a fun game. We'd all be glad to give it.

back in HOMM1 and HOMM2, the barbarians and knights had an advantage, because each +1 attack / defense meant a whole 10% increase / decrease in damage.

In many maps where you meet your opponent early in game ... where there are NO relics, it isn't necessary (yet very helpful) to have your barbarian develop expert earth-magic.  His stats will be:
9  4  2  1
while your spellcasting opponent's stats are
2  2  7  5
the spellcaster only has a limited amount of spell points, and has not developed intelligence yet ... wherefore he can only cast 5 lightning bolts of 185 each, which can only kill a limited amount of troops.
Therefore magic heroes NEED development and powerful artifacts, whereas warriors just seem to become magi when they have artifacts.  <--- artifacts like heavenly helm, etc.

Thanks for clarifying that Rychen

Yeah, I noticed on quite a few threads people were identifying Icon with me. Thankfully he never said anything grossly stupid and ruined my image, lol- or else maybe if he did people would have caught on then, err- maybe I shouldn't think about that. ;-)

I thought it was funny that I never quite cracked the colonel barrier; I always seem to not have enough time in the season. Season 1 was only 3 months left in when I joined, then I went into the military in season 2 and you can't really play from boot camp, and finally for season 3 I was still in tech school, and now I await H4 while season 4 goes on. =( I'll see how I do in the new ToH with H4. Oh, also just a note on looking up people's records- it can be a good indicator, but you never saw my season 1 record, also I know many veterans who go under different names each successive season. So you think you playing a newbie and you wondering how you got rushed week 2 with a hero who owns all relics on his side of the map already...
