I hate to say it, but Necro does not go well with any other town. Why? Simply because of the morale issue. Fine, some say, there are plenty of +1 morale boosting artifacts to offset this.... I'd rather keep the Necro pure and aim for the Spirit of Oppression. Couple that with Expert Sorrow and my Ghost Dragons and its curtains for my opponent. I noted my favorite combo before but here's another pretty good one.
Castle and Fortress. You won't be able to get Champion's most likely but your main army will be comprised of Hydras, Angels, Wyverns, Gorgons, Basilisks, Crusaders, and it's a toss-up between griffins and dragonflies. Personally I'd go for the dragonflies for the speed. Make your hero Tazar, Alkin, or Sorsha, and you'll be doing pretty good for yourself. Note: With this combo you don't need high spell power, just Expert water and Bless or Teleport.
