HC Rivals - discussion
Lately I stumbled on Mytical's HC Fantasy Fight. Sadly, it never really got rolling, so I thought that maybe we can make a new incarnation of the game to see if it will do better this time. I will be the one managing it this time.
Now, I don't really remember the rules of the original game, so I had to come up with something new. Unfortunately, coming up with new things ain't really my specialty so intended to rip-off get some inspiration from the Urban Rivals game. There are rules in the site (somewhere), but the basic idea is this:
Each player has a team of 8 characters. Four of them are randomly selected for the battle. Each player has 12 HP and 12 'pillz'. The match then proceeds in the next order:
* Player A is chosen to go first.
* Round 1 begins: Player A chooses one of his four characters to attack and gives him a number of 'pillz'. The more pillz the character has the higher his attack. The attack is also determined based on the character's base power (which differs from character to character) and only affects his chances to win the round.
* Player B sees what character player A used, but not how many 'pillz'. Player B chooses one of his characters and gives him a number of 'pillz' as well.
* The two characters fight each other and the one with the higher attack wins and does damage to the HP of the defeated player equal to the winning character's base damage. Both characters are now tired and cannot be used anymore.
* Round 2 begins: same as Round 1, only this time player B is the one choosing first and player A reacts to his choice.
* Round 3 begins: same as Round 1.
* Round 4 begins: same as Round 2.
The match ends, either at the end of round 4, in which case the player with higher HP wins, or if any player reaches 0 HP.
There are a couple more things, like character stats, the ability to 'Fury' your characters, etc. However, this is the basic idea.
The big question is: will there be a couple of players interested in trying this out? I'm very flexible about rules, I just couldn't think of anything better myself. We'll also need a helluva lot of HC characters, but first thing first: who will be willing to try something like this out and maybe help me fleshing it out?

It has occurred to me, that maybe I used a few terms without enough explanation, since I am so used to them. I tried to keep the explanation as simple as possible to only convey the basics, but if someone asks I can write a more detailed tutorial or an example match with all the powers and abilities in place.

Well, that's a start. Enough to see what we can do with it. Now where to begin... game rules? I think we'll start with Urban Rivals rules and after you all get the hang of it you'll be able to come up with suggestions on how to improve it. So, we need characters. I suck at balancing things out, but I can just take certain characters from UR and change their names and bios to HC members. Again this is just for starters, after everyone gets the hang of things, I'm sure we'll be able to come up with something more creative. So, for the UR rules to work we need to separate the members into several clans. Let's say 3 clans for starters: spammers, OSMers and ... HoMM developers (Altar posters). Now help me gather up 8-10 members for each team and I'll fit stats and bios for everyone of them. After that we can "distribute" them between players and run a trial match.

In the meanwhile, I'll go into a little more details about the rules.
First of all, I found this tutorial which is taken straight from the game and explains the basic rules better than I ever could.
Two things are not mentioned in the video: the first is the different abilities and bonuses. They vary greatly from character to character and clan to clan. I'll show you examples when I create a couple of HC characters.
The second is the "fury" option. Whenever you choose your character and give him pillz, you can also burn three pillz to increase his damage by 2. You can use this every round, but you cannot use up more or less than 3 pillz each round this way.
I'll post a demo battle later tonight.

Let's say that Player A drew the following four characters:
Name: Kawan, Bennie, Chikko, Vermyn N
Level: 4, 2, 3, 4
Clan: Junkz, Bangers, Bangers, Bangers
Power: 6, 5, 4, 5
Damage: 7, 3, 4, 7
Ability: none, +2 power, none, -4 damage min. 1
Bonus: +8 att, +2 power, +2 power, +2 power
And Player B drew the following four characters:
Name: DR. Saw, Nina, Amiral Py, Gertrud
Level: 4, 4, 3, 4
Clan: GHEIST, GHEIST, La Junta, La Junta
Power: 6, 6, 5, 6
Damage: 4, 2, 5, 6
Ability: +1 life per dmg, Poison 2 min. 1, -5 att min. 2, Stop Bonus
Bonus: Stop ability, Stop ability, +2 dmg, +2 dmg
The player that starts first is the one who's total level is higher. In this case it is Player B: 4+2+3+4=13 < 4+4+3+4=11.
Round 1:
Player A: 12 HP, 12 pillz.
Player B: 12 HP, 12 pillz.
Player B chooses to go with Nina. Why? Because she has the poison ability. If a character with the ability Poison X min. Y wins his round the enemy's HP is gradually reduced starting from the next round by X every round until unless it's already lower than Y. So if Nina hits on the first round she'll do 6 poison damage over the course of a 4 round battle (2 each round, starting with the 2nd one). Player B uses 5 pillz on Nina.
Player A sees that Player B used Nina, but he doesn't know how strong he sent her. He could be trying to hit poison or he could be bluffing and trying to make player A use up a lot of pillz from the start. Also, since Player B has two GHEIST characters in play (doesn't matter if they're tired or not), both of them gain their bonus, meaning that Abilities won't work on them. So using Bennie would be useless. Player A uses Chikko with 6 pillz.
Round 1 Results:
Chikko: attack = power*pillz = (basic power + bonus)*(basic pill + used pillz) = (4+2)*(1+6) = 42
Nina: attack = power*pillz = (basic power)*(basic pill + used pillz) = (6)*(1+5) = 36
Player A wins. Player B takes 4 points of damage (because that's Chikko's damage).
Round 2:
Player A: 12 HP, 6 pillz.
Player B: 8 HP, 7 pillz.
Now Player A goes first. Reminder: Nina and Chikko are tired and cannot be used anymore, but they still count for Bonus purposes.
Player A chooses Kawan. He doesn't use any pillz trying to get back some pill advantage. Since Kawan is the only Junkz character on Player's A side the Bonus doesn't trigger.
Player B is a bit wary now. Kawan's damage is 7. By itself it's not enough to finish Player B off, but if Kawan is furied by using up 3 more pillz his damage will rise to 9 and the duel could end right here. Player B counts how big a furied Kawan's attack can be in this situation and sends Amiral Py with 3 pillz.
Round 2 Results:
Kawan: attack = power*pillz - opponent ability = (basic power)*(basic pill) - opponent ability = (6)*(1) - 5 {min 2}= 6 - 5 {min 2} = 2
Amiral Py: attack = power*pillz = (basic power)*(basic pill + used pillz) = (5)*(1+3) = 20
Player B wins. Player A takes (5+2)=7 points of damage (because that's Amiral Py's damage along with his Bonus).
Round 3:
Player A: 5 HP, 6 pillz.
Player B: 8 HP, 4 pillz.
It's Player B's turn again. He only has Dr. Saw and Gertrud left. He sends Gertrud to try and finish it using her great damage. Her ability also comes in handy as she negates the opponents +2 power bonus. He uses all his pillz.
Player A thinks his opponent is bluffing. After all, if Dr. Saw manages to hit, not only will he deal 4 damage to player A, but he will also give the same amount of HP to player B, virtually increasing the gap between the two by 8. So, player A leaves just enough pillz to defeat Dr. Saw later and uses Vermyn N with 2 pillz.
Round 3 Results:
Vermyn N: attack = power*pillz = (basic power + bonus)*(basic pill + used pillz) = (5)*(1+2)= 15
Gertrud: attack = power*pillz = (basic power)*(basic pill + used pillz) = (6)*(1+4) = 30
Player B wins. Player A takes (6+2-4)=4 points of damage (because that's Gertrud's damage along with her Bonus, but minus Vermyn N's damage reduction ability).
Round 4:
Player A: 1 HP, 4 pillz.
Player B: 8 HP, 0 pillz.
It's Player A's turn again. He doesn't have much choice at this point. He uses Bennie with 1 pill and uses 3 pillz to fury him.
Player B has no choice whatsoever, he just uses Dr. Saw with no pillz.
Round 4 Results:
Bennie: attack = power*pillz = (basic power + bonus + ability)*(basic pill + used pillz) = (5+2)*(1+1)= 14
Dr. Saw: attack = power*pillz = (basic power)*(basic pill) = (6)*(1) = 6
Player A wins. Player A takes (3+2)=5 points of damage (because that's Bennie's damage along with +2 fury bonus).
End results:
Player A: 1 HP.
Player B: 3 HP.
Player B wins.

There are many other that I left our for now. As far as I'm concerned this is still in trial phase. If it picks up, I'll ad more more clans and characters.
Edit: Ok, I just realized that I don't knowtoo many Altarers, so either supply me with a long list or give me an idea for another clan... and then supply me with a long list.
