I want real dragons. And not too many of them. I disliked Heroes3 for having so many "Me too !" dragons. Red, black, now green and yellow ! Phoenix was no good enough ?

I think the problem with the H5 dragons was that they were largely uninteresting. Emerald and Green? Um, isn't that the same thing? Shadow Dragon and Black Dragon? Again, that's the same. Things got a little better with the Tribes of The East expansion.

Dungeons and Dragons has a TON of variants of dragon and they're all very different in appearance and personality. Then again, that is their namesake. =P

Frankly I did not liked H5. Maybe I waited and wanted to much from it I do not know but it is sure that the dragons within the game was unimaginative!
As it was mentioned their names was identical eg.: green = emerald (I think it was emerald)... If they do not wanted to follow the green=>gold line-up why made them upgrade option for dragons? It seems they wanted maximum monsters for minimum work.
Classic dragon-kin are seems to reappear in Heroes however. Look at the Kirin which is very looks like the chinese dragons. I think Kirin is a good idea as a unit and distinctive enough to look original. But where are the other dragons? The classic european (like H1-2-3-4 and yeah 5)? Or the Greece dragons, the winged, fire spitting serpents? I know dragons became a bit boring but they are parts of Heroes however there are so many forms they have that the developers may make dozens of them with distinctive appearence!
So, make dragons but not dragon-models with differently coloured textures! There's always place for dragies I think.

Oh, and something else that bothers me truly: Holy Griffon Empire? WTF? Holy? Sorry but it is just crap and that faction really need a new, proper name IMO...

Holy Griffon Empire, Batman!
But yeah, get rid of the fanatics. There's only room for one type of zealot in my imaginary HoMM world.

Speaking of Zealots, I think the Sistals should've looked more like this:

I can't help but notice that since Heroes 4, each subsequent game wasn't so much more/better as different. It's more about changes than about improvements.

Time for a thought experiment. Imagine Heroes 4, 5 and 6 with removed labels. Also, remove all story text and pay no attention to graphical advancements (technical side).

Would you be able to say which Heroes game came before others ? Was "4" first, or maybe "5" ? Or "6" ? (This one is easier as it doesn't have expansion packs yet ;-).

Now compare to Heroes 1, 2, and 3. It's easy to tell which came before which. Heroes 3 is the most detailed, has the most factions, artifacts, creatures, spells, skills. Heroes 2 has less of that stuff, but significantly more than Heroes 1.

My point: Ubisoft, rather than building upon and extending existing structure, merely sells you permutations. Variations on the same theme.

---------------

It may actually be a fun experiment ! Find a friend who's never played Heroes games. Show him both H5 and H6, and be careful not to show title screens. Ask him which is the sequel.

If that was true I would be in Heaven.
Cureently H4 suffers from a disease I call ''The forth game curse'' (not necessarily a curse as sometimes it is a bless) that a lot of 4th games of a series are very different from the first 3.
This has happened in:
Heroes
Crash Bandicoot (from Platform to race)
Jak and daxter ( From platform to race)
Ratched and clank ( From platform to fast paced combat)
Warcraft (from RTS to MMORPG)
Adventure quest (from RPG to MMORPG)
And there are some more that I currently can't remember.

Hello, don't know where to put this so help me if I did anything wrong?

I’m big fan of all heroes series! Enjoyed playing all the games! Hope you liked them just as much as I enjoyed them.
The only thing that’s bothering me are the units. Always the orcs, vampires, skeletons and titans…  it’s time for some other creatures don’t you think?
I made this huge list of all my own personal favorite monsters from old stories I could think off.
I hope you really enjoy it!

Jersey Devil - Half horse, devil and humanoid, these monsters love to stalk their prey before eating it, the Jersey Devil is from modern American folklore. The name should change into: Enter-location/city-in-HOMM world + Devil

Rainbow Serpent – Much like the Couatl in appearance, these rainbow colored serpents come from Australian folklore. They are the guardians of oils and water.

Simurgh – The beautiful Persian Simurgh can be as beautiful as it is deadly. Mostly serving some higher and good cause they enjoy slaying evil and ugly creatures, a Simurgh looks likes a rainbow colored winged wolf creature with the feathers of a peacock.

Possessed Doll – Used in many B horror movies, the concept of a walking, murdering toy isn’t that bad, or is it?

Leucrotta – Commonly known as Crocotta or Yena, these hyena-like beasts from Indian mythology are natures worst enemy, they love to destroy everything that nature creates as they hate all other creatures, especially beautiful ones. A crocotta is a mixture of a hyena, large antelope and a honey badger, their teeth are like rows of bone and it is said they can bite through everything even diamond and adamantium.

Frost Giant – Famous in Norse Mythology, these large frosty, bad-mannered giants carry their giant axes with them at all times.

Chupacabra – From modern Mexican folklore, these cryptids have many forms, mostly lizard-like, dog-like or rodent-like or something completely alien. Chupacabra (which is Mexican for Goat Sucker) love to suck livestock dry of their red fluids, but they aren’t afraid to attack humans (especially children) as well, mostly if they hunt in packs. Chupacabra’s are disease battery’s, they are immune to diseases but still collect them in their drool, so their bite can contain multiple diseases which they got from their past victims as they often prey on the sick or weak.

Pairaka – A female Div, Pairaka’s are likely the Persian, wingless version of the Succubus. Add some disease-like abilities, blue skin, nasty horns, spiked tail and their hatred for the color red and you have yourself a Pairaka.

Lorelei – From German folklore. The Lorelei was once a very beautiful but arrogant mermaid/maiden that got cursed and became an anemone-like rock that could sing and lure other creatures (male or female or animal) toward itself to devour them.

Moonbeast – Another one of Lovecrafts insane creations. Moonbeasts are white featureless horrors with a tentacle-like head.  Moonbeast come from the dream realm and sometimes end up in the real world to spread terror and carnage.

Fog Horror – Mist always scares people, and many movies grab on their chance to turn mist and fog into a real scary opponent, of course you have the movie the fog from the 8oties and the more recent the mist from Stephen King, there are many things you can do with mist monsters for example: A deadly mist that absorbs the souls of the creatures it kills, these killed spirits appear within the mist and make kills for it adding to their ever-growing number.

Ningyo – Strange, small, ugly, nasty mermaid monkeys from Japanese folklore. Nuff said.

Incubus – Everybody knows the Succubus (especially since they are 2 heroes games) but their male counterparts are far less common. Incubi are very different from their Succubi sisters. Mostly appear as ugly demons that can haunt their victims in their dreams much like Freddy Krueger does, in dreams these demons can appear like they want to, often appearing as beautiful humanoid males with beautiful angelic wings in the beginning only to turn into horrible monsters later on when they turn bored or hungry for souls.

Crawling Hand – Taken from numerous horror movies, these weak undead creatures are a good replacement for overused zombies and skeletons, they are good for strangling…
These awkward hands are created by mad liches or vampires that animate the cut-off hands of their victims to become their guardians and thieves.

Sepid – Like all other Persian Div the Sepid is a evil djinn-like monster that only exists to torture humankind. They are the lords and masters of the other Div appearing as towering white skinned ogres with the horns of a goat, their most awesome ability is summoning a rain of debris upon their enemies.

Leshy – Slavic tree spirits. Every leshy has its own plant-species it protects and their forms always resemble the plant species they protect, some resemble fly traps, other giant trees and still others seaweed creatures. Leshy’s are playful creatures but can become extremely dangerous when their plants are threatened, like sphinxes the leshy’s enjoy riddles more than anything else.

Sagari – Hanging upside down from tree branches, these moray-like horrors with the heads of nightmarish horses are a terror to any adventurer. If one would stare a Sagari in its eyes they would fall ill to a horrible disease.

Biloko – From Zaire mythology. These dwarf sized cannibals are sometimes known as pygmies. They are said to be the spirits of the ancestors of the people living in Mongo-Nkundo.  Their unique power allows them to shrink body parts of their victims, Biloko’s ended up in the movie: The Mummy 2.

Kapre – The cigar smoking Kapre comes from Philippine mythology. These are treant like creatures but with more humanoid forms, their cigars create hallucinating effects on humans, bringing them in a deep trance so the Kapre can do as it likes with them, often kapres tricks are nasty but non-fatal, but some Kapres are evil and often kill their victims.
Like their Leshy brothers they protect plants and nature from harm, but Kapres are more sinister than Leshies in their task.

Camulatz – A mayan parrot monster that loves to tear off heads of the foolish. Camulatz is as large as an elephant.

Saumen Kar – Inuit Mythology brought us to the Saumen Kar, an intelligent, horned yeti-like creature that can become a living blizzard. They are good oracles and wise advise givers, many people seek their advise, but the Saumen Kar always need a good sacrifice before they would give it.

Chesire Cat – Lewis Carroll’s famous creation. Chesire Cats are teleporting monstrous cats that can be as annoying as they can be helpful, like their Sphinx parents they speak in riddles which only the insane understand. Next to teleporting they can also become invisible and have many other strange abilities on their sleeves.

Valkyrie – Sometimes good, sometimes evil, these angels of war and death come from Norse Mythology. Valkyries hunt the battlefield for slain heroes and monsters, harvesting their souls to their ever growing spirit armies for their Gods or for their own sinister goals. Good Valkyries collect the souls of the brave and escort them to heaven.

Afanc – From Welsh Mythology and also from King Arthurs stories. The Afanc is a terrible half crocodile half beaver monster that often builds its dams to stop water coming into a village, if the heroes/peasants of that village try to track the cause of their dry river the Afanc would certainly get an easy meal out of them. The afanc has the behavior and creativity of a beaver but the mindless feeding habits of a crocodile.

Petsuchos – Mummies are terrible foes, but imagine a magical crocodile mummy called Petsuchos ripping you in half with its horrible death roll, and if you escape you might get burned by their horrible solar light beams.

Bloody Bones – From English folklore. When children are bad, their mothers often tell a terrible story about a crawling skeleton dripping with the blood of his victims that lives underneath the stairs. Bloody Bones would eat a bad child till nothing but the childs bones remain. Bloody Bones looks like a skeletal torso + monstrous skull, it misses its lower body and so needs to crawl over the floor with its arms.

Humbaba – There aren’t many creatures coming from Akkadian mythology, but what comes from this mythology is one of the most powerful creatures out there. The Humbaba is a titan-like monster with the face of a lions, it loves to destroy everything man-made. Humbaba is the brother of Pazuzu, the wind demon.

Nandi Bear – In the deep, dark forest of East Africa there are bear like creatures on the hunt, many people say the forest is haunted by these creatures that both have parts of gorilla’s and bears. These nasty Nandi Bears are the real worlds answer to the mad Owlbear from Dungeons and Dragons.

Oni – Japanese demons, there are many kinds of Oni’s but for Heroes series I recommend the ogre-like version.

Zoog – Creations of the insane and brilliant writher Lovecraft, the Zoog are small mammals that resemble Lemurs on steroids, these nasty carnivorous monsters hunt in large packs from the treetops and have a special ability that allows them to track down magic sources.

Sea Hag – Sea Hags often rule the lake or reef they call their home. Sea Hags are common in all kinds of mythology, folklore and even Disney cartoons, their form may differ in each game and story they are brought in. Sea Hags love to create armies of evil sea creatures, mostly deep ones which follow them mindless.

Lemure – In roman mythology these were shades of the restless or malignant dead.

Gorynych – An extremely vain Slavic dragon, Gorynych are addicted to virgins, wealth and mostly themselves.  They look like three headed primal dragons with huge batwings, they are covered in jewelry and golden items, all three of its heads wear a golden crown as the Gorynych demands sacrifices from all other creatures, especially other dragons which it despises.

Scarab Swarm – Movie based terrors, Scarabs are small golden beetles that live in huge swarms, they devour everything from the inside out by burying into the flesh of other creatures, most heroes rather face a mad Nidhogg than a swarm of these hungry terrors.

Buggane – Taken from Manx Mythology, the Buggane is an half ogre, half mole creature, they act much like the Umberhulks from D&D in behavior, namely eating everything that moves, building huge tunnel networks and slashing everything with their huge mole-like claws.

Decarabia – A demon lord from Ars Goetia, the Decarabia are red land based starfish monsters that devour everything on their path much like the thorn crowns (starfish species) they resemble. Some of them take over the hunting styles of Ant Lions and they bury themselves in the sand where they patiently await the arrival of their next victim.

Bisan – A female wasp Yokai (asian demons) that loves to lay her eggs inside male victims, instead of new Bisans, a nasty thing (much like the thing from the 1982 movie) like beast takes over the human and becomes a loyal minion for the Bisan. Bisans are much like the spidery Jorogumo.

Bloody Mary – The mirror hag from modern folklore, call her name 6 times in the mirror and you have yourself a carnage. Bloody Mary can be summoned to kill for you, but mostly turns on you after she drunk the blood of the one you have her killed.

Guecubu – Undead monsters from Indian legends. When particular evil people die the Indian people are afraid to bury them properly, so they burn their corpses instead and put the ashes into the ground. Very wrong indeed as these evil ashes spawned the first Guecubu.
Guecubu are spirits of the dead that take control of the environment itself, rising as terrible earth-elemental creatures full of negative energy and undead powers, they look like elementals composed of earth, bones and dead wood and plants, on top of this creature is a monstrous skull, mostly of a nasty animal that lives in the same area the creature was spawn.

Nidhogg – A giant bat-like dragon from Norse mythology.

Einherjar – Norse mythology, these are the spirits of the best warriors chosen by the Valkyrie/Angels of death themselves.

Kijimuna – You all remember the little troll dolls with multicolored hair right? Well those are actually the fire loving Kijimuna from Asian folklore, these octopus fearing, bright haired goblins love fire like no other, and they often start fires just for the fun of it and the beautiful effects fires bring with them. They also have strange effects on fire, making fires hotter and larger being some of them, if they see fire their own hair becomes like fire.

Amadan - These nasty, mischievous fey from irish folklore look like monstrous winged goblins dressed as jesters, they are the masters of dark and deadly humor tricks and they keep laughing even after they are dead.

Laelaps - A large dog from Greek Mythology that always catches what it is after, the perfect hunter.

Peluda - The serpentoid dragon that was left behind when Noah took all the animals on the Arc/boat, the Peluda was evil itself and so could not come with the boat full of pureness. Peluda survived the flood tho and killed some species after they arrived on dry land again, only to be slain by the son of Noah who cut of its tail, the only weakness it had. Peluda's look like wingless dragons with porcupine-like spines on their back, their heads resemble cobra snakes and they have long Diplodocus like tails.

Echeneis - Giant, monstrous versions of the common Remora Fish, they have strange magnetic powers over wood, flesh and iron, they stop boats with these magnetic abilities and pull its crew overboard with their flesh magnetic powers.

Aniwye - Giant carnivorous Skunks from Native American mythology, they are gigantic and have deadly poisonous gas attacks.

Umdhlebi - Evil, black/red parasitic-plant creatures from African mythology, they take over good plant creatures and trees (treants) and turn them into corruptions of nature, often has Leucrotta/crocotta working for them.
Vilcasis – The spirits of werewolves, Vilcasis possess animals, turning the animals larger, more feral and monstrous, you can recognize the Vilcasis-possessed animals by their feral blue glowing eyes and monstrous features, if you kill the possessed animal the Vilcasis will simply find a new host to possess, they also turn all animals in their area more aggressive.

Other monsters from all sorts of mythologies and stories:

Ukobach – Small demons that control fire, they are the guardians of fire.

Carbuncle – Small cute creatures with large gems on their foreheads that feast on negative emotion.

Dullahan – The headless horseman.

Mandragora – Blood Hungry monstrous plant roots that drank demonic blood and became living.

Jack in Irons – Fey giants dressed in living chains, stalk lonely roads.

Ghul – Undead genies.

Abaia – A giant eel monster that can summon tsunami’s so it can travel on land.

Shen – A monstrous asian clam monster that uses illusions to lure prey inside of its huge maw.

Jubjub Bird – The famous bird (dodo-like) from Alice in wonderland stories.

Hind – Female centaur with deer features.

Redcap – Murderous fey that dip their caps in blood to become more powerful, often work together with Barghests.

Springheel Jack – A murderous fey from England that haunts the streets and can jump real high.

Banshee – Wailing female elf spirits of vengeance.

Tatzylwyrm – Worm like dragons that are the ancestors of dragons.

Bandersnatch – From Alice in wonderland, a giant dog-like monster with 6 legs and a terrible appetite.

Mothman – From modern folklore a man-moth that will cause disasters to happen after you see him.

Catoblepas – Gnu or Buffalo like monsters that kill with their stare.

Drop Bear – Flesh hungry koala bears that drop from trees upon their victim and which can increase their body mass to become heavy or very light.

Globster – Australian sea blobs/oozes made off whale blubber.

Lukwata – Gigantic fish dragons that haunt lakes in Africa.

Spriggan – Gnome like creatures that can become giant sized when angry or afraid.

Salamander – Giant Salamander with fire powers.

Impundulu (lightning bird) – Evil, shapeshifting African thunderbird.

Rusalka – Slavic, evil female water spirit.

Megalania – Giant monitor lizard from ancient times.

Mapinguari (megatherium) – Giant Sloth monster.

Cherufe – Servants and messengers of a living volcano that demands sacrifices, look like giant apes made entirely from red hot lava/magma.

Rarog – Fiery dwarves or giants from Slavic mythology can travel in the form of a fireball or meteor slamming into the earth like a true comet/meteor.

Baykok – Hunters that die while they lost themselves in a hunt may become Baykok, terrible flying (but wingless) undead with deformed legs and terrible bow weapons, Baykok always hunt for more powerful creatures to slay and add to their collection. They come from Ojibway mythology.

You may have missed it, but Heroes4 was the last true Heroes game.

Heroes of Might and Magic always had very abstract factions. You couldn't even call them "societies". They were like zoo's - creatures organized by biome (Plains, Swamp, Lava, Dirt, Snow...).  Vast majority of units were species. The word "races" doesn't really apply to factions of Heroes1-4.
Classic HOMM was based on human myths and folk tales.

Enter Heroes5. Factions are society-like. They strongly resemble factions from known settings like Warhammer or Warcraft. They are mostly 1 race with variations (orcs/goblinoids, humans, elves, dwarves, elves again). The word "races" fits just fine.
Heroes5-6 factions are based on other games, popular fiction, etc.

What's the most famous mythical creature that was never included in Heroes1-5, and - according to current information - won't be present in Heroes6 either ? Trust me, you've heard of it.

Personally I don't think Hereos have to have factions with "society" like creature pool.
It fits for games like Age of Wonders but in this I want a nice mix.
Dungeon in H5 and H6 both got kinda boring since there where too many cliche dark elves. Assassins, blood furies, lizard Riders and Mistresses. Thats more then half the faction filled with dark elves. Would have loved to see some Troglodytes, Beholders or Medusas.
Same with the Dwarves in H5. too many of them.

Also the humans and demons are starting got a bit tiresome. They are so similar in every game. If they make a H7 I wouldn't mind if they skipped those for the sake of other factions to return. Rampart, Fortress etc..
Then we would also get a campaign with a less "knights vs demon" storyline.
Castle and Inferno could always be added later on.

I really want to see only few new creatures in each heroes and a lot of old ones!

I hope homm 7 has the following creatures.

You can only choose one Champ unit, and while there are 4 Elites you can only choose 3.

Haven - Based around Einherjar or Warriors (not humans), while they look like humans the Sentinel, Marksman, Zealot and Sun Chariot are Einherjar, holy warrior humans who have died in battle but which soul is saved by Valkyries so they can fight in armies again against all evil.
Core: Sentinel / Marksman / Peri (wisp-like angel creature)
Elite: Zealot / Griffon / Sun Chariot / Valkyrie
Champ: Seraph / Titan

Necropolis - Based around undead.
Core: Spine Crawler / Ghoul / Black Vulture (from card game)
Elite: Vampire / Dullahan (headless horseman) / Mummy / Banshee
Champ: Fate Spinner / Wraith (or Grim Reaper)

Sanctuary - Based around Naga or Lizardmen.
Core: Kappa / Couatl (from Might and Magic game) / Kamikiri (crab creatures from Japanese)
Elite: Wanizame / Yuki-Onna / Naga Kensei / Naga Witch (Medusa)
Champ: Kirin / Hydra

Sylvan - Based around non-hippy Elves, I would like feral elves here.
Core: Pixie / Satyr / White Fox (fox with 9 tails from heroes card game)
Elite: Unicorn / Dendroid / Elf Ranger / Elf Druid
Champ: Phoenix / Ladon (or Emerald Dragon)

Academy - Based around Djinns or Genies.
Core: Sahaar (coyote man from card game) / Djinn Illusionist / Sand Shark (from card game)
Elite: Golem / Rakshasa / Djinn Wishmaster / Cactus Thing (From the cardgame)
Champ: Sand Worm / Sphinx

Dungeon - Based around Troglodytes or Dark Elves, I really dislike the faceless.
Core: Troglodyte / Dark Elf Assassin / Spore Bat
Elite: Basilisk / Shadow Stalker (Panther) / Minotaur / Dark Elf Matriarch
Champ: Black Dragon / Lurker (or Evil Eye)

Stronghold - Based around orcs.
Core: Orc Berserker / Goblin (with boomerang, I really liked that!) / Harpy
Elite: Orc Shaman / Centaur (male) / Manticore (without wings) / Wyvern
Champ: Cyclops / Behemoth (looking more like the Frenzied Gnasher from heroes 4)

Expansion Towns en Themes

Fortress - Based around the Dwarves and Elements of frost and fire.
Core: Dwarf Defender / Dwarf Harpoon / Gargoyle
Elite: Rune Master Dwarf / Thunderbird / Yeti / Salamander (or Fire Dragon)
Champ: Juggernaut (Thane on Mammoth) / Crystal Dragon

Inferno - Based around Infernal Demons and Creatures, turning them into neutrals is another option so that the entire storyline isn't wasted about everything VS demons.
Core: Imp / Maniac / Cerberus
Elite: Nightmare / Succubus / Tormentor / Efreet
Champ: Breeder / Pit Fiend

Neutral
Glory (Light Elemental)
Shade (Darkness Elemental)
Water Elemental
Fire Elemental
Air Elemental
Earth Elemental
Troll
Mantis
Werewolf
Slime
Siren or Mermaid
Bramble Beast (from heroes card game)
Dire Wolf
Brigand
Peasant
Rogue Mage (replacement of the human Mage)
Pirate
Nomad
Kraken or Giant Octopus
Rust Dragon
Azure Dragon
Faerie Dragon

The creatures I left out from older HOMM games are:
Swordman = Replaced by Sentinel.
Ogre = I like Orc Shamen better and they are much like Trolls.
Halfling = Never really liked them.
Boar = Maybe the Orc Shaman rides on a boar?
Zombie = Maybe the non-upgraded Ghoul?
Skeleton = I like other skeleton creatures more, not skeleton humans.
Lich = Never really liked them, maybe a hero unit or a boss monster?
Bone Dragon = Too much different dragons, I like other necropolis champions better.
Magog = What is this?
Demon = Little bit boring.
Devil = Replaced by Pit Fiend, maybe same abilities.
Gnoll = I don't like them.
Lizardmen = Pretty much the same as Naga.
Dragonfly = uhhh...
Gorgon = Don't like them.
Pegasus = Maybe Valkyrie flies on them?
Wolf Raider = Dire wolves already are wolves.
Black Knight = Dullahan replaces them, they are Black Knights without a head.
Gremlin = Don't really like them.
Gold Golem = I like Iron Golems more.
Diamond Golem = You can make everything into a golem, only Iron Golem please.
Magic Elemental = Never liked Conflux town.
Sea Monster = Ugly thing, rather see Giant Octopus neutral in sea battles.
Leprechaun = Maybe as Building.
Ice Demon = No.
Waspwort = No.
Dragon Golem = I hated these things back in homm4, still do.
Squire = Sentinel is better.
Berserker = Orc Berserker.
Venom Spawn = Too random.
White Tiger = Maybe white wolf, white elephant and white hyena too?
Goblin Knight = Really silly monster.
Evil Sorceress = Strange name and no.
Gargantuan = Maybe upgrade for Behemoth?
Megadragon = No.
Orc Slayer = Much like Orc Berserker.
Grim Raider = I like them, but I like the other Dark Elves better.
Bear Rider = I like the other dwarves better.
Dwarf Brawler = No, don't like them.
Blade Dancer = Two elves is more than enough.
Faceless = Don't like them.
Sister = Zealot is better.
Juggernaut = Too much like Minotaur.
Lamasu = Too much like Manticore and Sphinx.
Spring Spirit = Very cheap the same as Water Elemental.
Jaguar Warrior = I really like them, but I like other Stronghold creatures better.

I stopped reading here. What kind of heresy is that!
