Poll Question:
Do you like my idea? .. read below

i would always like to see Heroes III redone, if i were ubisoft, id make a 3d version based on Heroes 3

what i mean is use the same art and everything, but just make it 3d - more resolutions and small invisible improvements on balance .. maybe a new town with every expansion or something like that, but if ubisoft does that, i think this will be their bestseller, far better than heroes 5 or 6

and graphics dont have to be top notch, just 3d and thats it, something like warcraft 3 quality

Responses:
yes, i agree
no, i disagree

No, you're flaming crazy, H3 may work, but it's hardly ideal, for example the skill system is rather pathetic by modern standards, and it's far from the only issue.

Hard dilemma. If Ubi tried to improve H3 for H7, then all community will be back (H5 had very small audience, H6 close to none, due to bugs).

But if they did it in 3D, then nobody will return. Part of strength of H3 is due to easy handle of graphics and battle creatures, same angle = good for strategy. Rotating camera, shinny graphics, effects and other useless stuff is for candies only, it only makes heavier a keen view of the battlefield or adventure map.

No, I don't agree. Personally, I don't think H3 was the best game of the series - well, it was the best game that worked because H5 was so plagued by poor performance that it was hardly playable, but I think from a gameplay perspective, H5 was a superior game. So I would rather that they made a working version of H5 with a few crucial features from H3 added (namely a working Town Portal spell - and make that one optional for the TP haters, but for the kind of game I like to play, it is crucial) - but frankly, I'm afraid that is beyond their capabilities. Experience from H5 and H6 seems to indicate that they simply lack the dedication and/or focus to make such a complex game really work.

I guess you didn't play H5-ToE to think that 3D H3 would be better than it.
No way in earth I would buy that game. H3 was very good for its age. But that's it.
Too few special abilities for the creatures, factions don't feel unique, their distinction is not that much, crappy skill system for me (although H6 is crappier).

I disagree with the OP, H5 is enought of a H3 3D clone.

I owuld not want it. I love H3 and still play it, but I think, as some posted before, a remake, especially in 3d, would kill it's charme as well as playability. What I would like would more be a game that could be closer to H5 from gameplay - but change the factions quite much!!!

when im saying 3D i dont mean free rotate camera, just locked camera Heroes III style and just 3D graphics, because its will make more sense to make it 3D than making it 2D, it doesnt work like this anymore, thats what i have in mind, maybe i didnt explain quite well in the first place

its just that today's standard is 3D, thats all, there are numerous ways to make a 3D iteration of Heroes III and keep the retro feel to it, obviously, you people imagine shiny graphics, Crytek/Unreal/Steam engine ... no ... no ...

but if you want to keep the retro feel -why not just play H3 and leave the programmers space to make a new game?

They just need to release H3 on handhelds, like the DS or I-phone... no need for a remake.

Would work wonders with a touch interface.

I'm against remaking games "in new graphics only". people that want H3 can simply play H3 - and everyone's happy.

That's why I didn't like Starcraft II - it was starcraft all over again, just new units and graphics.

There is an awful lot of cues that recent Heroes games could have and should have taken from H3 in presentation, graphical and atmospheric style, smoothness and depth of play, map editor functionality and etc etc, but it's on so high a pedestal by now that any remake effort would probably be doomed to acrimony - not to mention that the process of developing the remake would probably become as exciting as working in a tollbooth. I should add that this isn't necessarily "your" idea and that some 64,000 commenters on YouTube's HoMM videos have beaten you to it.

Though its game design is similar enough, I've never agreed that H5 is a H3 clone or anything much like one beyond that. I think the OP is interested in something that more successfully captures the whole Elmore-esque atmosphere of H3 as well as its quick gameplay, and H5 with Warhammer/craft-derived style and memory leaks was about a million miles away from managing that.

It was already done (at maximum possible). Check WoG forums. Many people do not agree with WoG various options, but its real strength is in modding capabilities. It is from it that H4-5-6 should have take inspiration and release flexible games, so we can play the modders apprentices and become rich.

One thing I like about H2's graphics (and by extension, H3-4) is that, despite appearing 'cartoony',
the units retained realistic body proportions, and pretty much everyone wore what you might expect them to wear in battle during a time of war, when resources normally are scarce.
And the sounds, from the the dwarfs "Uh?!" to the vampires "Blah!", it all helped set the atmosphere.

Moreover, the graphical representations of the faction towns had a certain ... "visual authenticity" to them, on par with the scenic design in the LotR movies.
You could tell a lot of dedication, love and care had gone into the making of those games.

I'm not so sure about that, but I do love the H2 menu screen. It's so cozy and classy. It's way cooler than H3's screen of a bearded angel that's trying to compensate for something.
