Editor loads all mods, same as h3era.exe.

Quote:
Another question: If I put the editor executable inside my mod folder, assuming I have every required def in my mod.pac, then will the editor load the stuff I want?

Just run h3wmaped.exe. All mods with their pacs are loaded automatically. All zeobjts-format txt's from Data\Objects folders are also applied automatically.

Edit: It helps to not delete your .pac file...

I'm really sorry Kegolo, but could you describe the problem in concrete details? I'm sure, everything can be solved.

No I figured it out I was being dumb. I deleted my .pac file from the folder, and then it wasn't working... which was easily remedied by, ya know, not deleting it . Thanks though, working perfectly once again.

Hello everyone,

I want to give a huge thanks to all who have put such hard work into this amazing project. You have truly kept this game alive and interesting.

I've searched the forums and haven't found an answer to a small problem, so I hope someone here can help. When trying to run the "Composed objects and NPC mod", I get the following error code:

Assert violation in file
"D:\Soft\Programming\Delphi\Source\SRC\Units\_OLDER_\MapExt.pas
" on line 404.
Error at address: $39E76C.

And this shows up in the problem details window:

Problem signature:
 Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
 Application Name: h3wmaped.exe
 Application Version: 3.0.0.0
 Application Timestamp: 38bc1f41
 Fault Module Name: eramap.dll
 Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
 Fault Module Timestamp: 2a425e19
 Exception Code: c0000005
 Exception Offset: 0001a708
 OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.2
 Locale ID: 1033
 Additional Information 1: d840
 Additional Information 2: 4b9bb2ad9605f59f5dbc1fb5b5ebb50e
 Additional Information 3: f31b
 Additional Information 4: 8c12fab323372af088daaae521c78f85

I ran the "Fix Editor" application, but it doesn't solve the problem. All the other mods, including the "New Objects Patch" run fine. If someone has the time to reply, I would greatly appreciate it.

eramap

Bersy,

Worked like a charm. Thanks for taking the time to help me - and thanks again to you and all the modders who have made this game what it is.

I'm also trying to make this work under Wine, and it keeps crashing whenever I try to launch h3era.exe. The console says:
Quote:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0385c378 at address 0x0055:0x035d3b8e (thread 0025)

I did a clean install of H3Complete, then used the SFX ERA installer, then used the install script that is in the depths of this thread somewhere, and finally tried to launch the executable. It gives me that error and freezes infinitely.

Mind you, I'm using a custom Wine prefix, so I had to relaunch the installmod process to make it work under the right prefix. But I don't think it would make a difference. The Wine version is 1.5.8.

If you are running under Era 2, the first dialog comes from the "Dress Code" script which is embedded in the WoG script "38 wog - first money.erm", in Mods/WoG/Data/s - or it was, I am not sure if it is in the latest Era 2 package.

I don't know where the Movement Point hint text comes from (someone else here will).

Is this related to missing functions in older libraries? Or is there another incompatibility? (now that I wrote second question, it occured to me that it could be related to how eramap.dll works. Am I close to correct answer?)

I just downloaded this the other day. It looks awesome but I'm concerned about the fact that all the mods are .exe files.

I'm not sure I really want to get into the habit of downloading a bunch of .exe files and I would think that this would limit your audience as many people avoid .exe files.

??

Is the installation that difficult that .exe files are required? It seems like it is organized to make installing mods easy but then why .exe files?

I downloaded both stargate atlantis and tew4 but my antivirus didn't like either of them. Yes, I could override this but I really don't want to get into the habit of running programs my antivirus tells me I shouldn't.

There may be other technical reasons of which I am not aware, but speaking as a user, the use of a self-extracting .exe file instead of a zip file or rar file automates the process of installing a mod and eliminates some of the possibilities of things going wrong (the less you depend on users such as myself to read, understand, and apply installation instructions, the less they can screw up).  The installation process includes running a mod-manager program which activates the mod.  Even with this level of automation, several users have managed to botch the installation process, as you can see if you read this whole thread.

My security system also has a general admonition against downloading .exe files, not because it has found viruses in them when it scanned them, but because it does not recognize the source and maybe there might be an unrecognized virus in them.  I expect your system is similar.

If someone wanted to spread viruses via Heroes maps, I think they could cause them to go into effect when the map is played - that is, it could be done without using an executable file for the download.  (I hope I am not giving anyone any ideas.)

Still, how much risk you want to take is up to you.  Speaking for myself, my two minor Era 2 mods ("Dragon Peaks" and "The King in Yellow") are available as non-.exe downloads at https://www.box.com/s/a8a7accc0b5436638aa5 and https://www.box.com/s/877639740775a758a20f and I expect others might make theirs available similarly on request.

monster replacement

In ERA 2.3 artic sharpshooter is replaced by efreet rijah and lava sharpshooter by medusa empresses, but I don't like them. It's possible to restore these sharpshooters back?
