The Bernilius Regiment (W40K OoC)

Ok, so here goes.
I have been itching to do another Warhammer 40K RPG ever since the Ares Incident stopped. And I have been mulling this over for some time.

This is an Imperial Guard RPG, as you may have guessed by the title. The Guard is what I know and love best, so I thought that the best place to start off.
I am going to assume you know a thing or two when you "apply for the job" and if you are in doubt you may want to brush up your knowledge at the Lexicanum or the Wiki.
Knowing a fair deal of Guard intricacies, mostly from the novels, I may introduce concepts you may not have heard of. Then again I am not omniscient (Even though I like to pretend at times I am ) so you guys 'n gals may learn me a thing or two as well.

I have several ideas up my sleeve, but there little point in working those out when nobody gives a care. If there are enough people interested (4+), I'm going to put these ideas to paper.
The general idea is this: This RPG revolves around the newly raised Bernilius 26th regiment. We start from the beginning and follow through the tour of this regiment, though we might cut some corners here and there. For organisational ease, I am going to roleplay both the Commanding Officer and the Regimental Commissar (two people).

Bear in mind that this is the first RPG I am leading, instead of just participating, so bear with me as I am easing into the chair of command, OK?
So who's interested?

Ok, some background info might be in place. Perhaps it will also atract some more attention.
Bernilius is a civilised world of roughly 3 billion, covered in shallow temperate seas and island archipelagoes. The world is around the imperial norm as far as civilisation goes. On Bernilius, the seas are oft used for fishing and the cultivation of several species of kelp. The kelp is mostly processed for their high nutritional value and much of the nutrient-additives are exported. Bernilius also exports raw and processed promethium, which is present in many subsea wells and is drilled for on platforms. Bernilius is also known for the high quality auto-pistols it manufactures. All members of the Imperial Guard from Bernilius are gifted a Bernilius pattern Auto-pistol, for they are a small source of pride. Bernilius has one hive-city, Bernilius Major, where most production takes place and houses roughly 40% of it's populace.
Being a world where water covers much of the surface, Bernilians tend to use boats to get from place to place, unless they're hivers. Another great source of employment is water-purification, due to the few scources of fresh water, Bernilians need to purify seawater to get enough for it's populace. On Bernilius, the Coast Guard takes the place of the PDF on other worlds. Accustomed to ships, most tithes in manpower go to the Imperial Navy. Nonetheless, Bernilius also raised over 40 regiments for the Imperial Guard. Bernilius has had the habit of reraising a regiment once the former one has been destroyed or decomissioned. Therefor, a single regiment can have been raised many times over the course of centuries and the Bernilius 26th will be raised the 16th time and it's full name would be the Bernilius 16th-26th Mariners Regiment. If there are commisioned officers left from the last regiment, they tend to be promoted to commanding officer of the new regiment that bears the same number. The exeption to this rule is the Bernilius 9th, which was destroyed 20 times in 30 years and is now considered unlucky and will never be reraised.
Bernilians are superstitious, despite efforts of the Ecclesiarchy to ban this out. Bernilian Priests, when they get tired of futilely trying to ban out superstition, tend to tolerate practices that do not clash with the Imperial Cult.
There are many rumours and prejudices about Bernilians, some of which are actually true. For instance the idea that Bernilians have webbed hands and feet, can drink seawater and can hold their breath underwater for over an hour are obviously false. On the otherhand the prejudice that Bernilians are only happy when they are soaked to the bone, is derived from the fact that Bernilians are not bothered by being wet, due to the high ammount of rainfall on the planet.

Bernilian Regiments typically wear Blue, Flak-lined Greatcoats over their combat fatigues, instead of Flak-armour. They resemble the battledress of the Steel Legion, but in blue and without the gasmasks.

Also here is an example char-sheet for one the char's I'll be playing. My commissar wil follow later

Name: Obediah Midas
Age: 47
Rank / Occupation: Colonel / Regimental Commanding Officer
Appearance: Grizzled and weather-beaten, Col Midas looks older than he is. He sports a chin curtain beard that is turning grey. His most prominent feature is his metal augmentic right leg that replaces his leg just above the knee and makes him limp slightly.
War-gear: Flak armour, Refractor Field, Frag Grenades, Hot-shot Laspistol, Bernilius Auto-pistol(everyone gets one of these), Power Sword (cutlass-style), Melta bombs.
Background: Obediah Midas grew up outside Bernilius Major on a secondary island, where his father owned a series of drydocks. Not looking forward to taking over his fathers business or working on one of his uncles kelp-farms, Obediah joined the Coast Guard when he was 17 and signed up for the Imperial Guard when he was 20. He was placed in the 15th-26th Bernilius Siege Regiment. Beginning as one of a two-man mortar team, Obediah got promoted up over the years of service untill he reached the rank of major and held command of the 2nd Artillery Platoon and was the commander of a Manticore Missile Launcher. Obediah lost his leg in the seige of the Orkhold of Ripgut Rok 3 years before the destruction of the 15th-26th, which was destroyed in the seige of Phylax Hive on Pernolt.
Superstition(s): (mandatory for Bernilians) Believes the phantom pain in his augmentic leg is a bad omen. Wears a necklace of shark-teeth as a good-luck charm in battle.

Name: Dougal Synclare
Age: 34
Rank / Occupation: Commissar
Appearance: Very tall and has alarmingly soft eyes. Wears a full blonde beard to cover massive facial scarring. Wears the distinctive uniform of a Commissar.(obviously) Unknown to most, he wears a brace underneath his uniform on his right arm and shoulder to soak up most of the recoil of his Boltgun.
War-gear: Flak armour, Frag and Krak Grenades, Boltgun, Bernilius Auto-pistol(everyone gets one of these), Chain Sword.
Background: Son of the Governor of Calculus Tertiary, who was killed during an uprising, Dougal Synclare was raised at a Schola Progenium from youth. Originally he was designated to become a Stormtrooper, untill he caught the eye of the aging Commissar-Captian Horrace Eggidio, who took it upon himself to tutor the young Synclare. Following an unconventional training-course alongside his mentor who was not attached to a regiment(for long), Synclare still managed to get promoted to Commissar and due to his training has a more intricate knowledge than most Commissars of the workings of the Departmento Munitorum and the Commissariat. Having held a deskjob for 3 years and being attached to the Aexe Cardinal 33rd Heavy Rifles for a year as second Commissar, Synclare has been rerouted, some say by his own hand, to be attached to the Bernilius 16th-26th. Synclare never talks about his facial scarring or their origins, though many rumours are abound, and is known to be coercive enough without having to use force.

I will supply a list for the allowed wargear for other characters upon request. I will base myself upon the Imperial Guard Codex and the Infantryman's Primer. Practically every rank or occupation is open for players, provided that you do not outrank my characters. Other than outranking me, I'll not allow Psykers(that would seriously mess with the superstition of the Bernilians and with the Commissar) and Ogryn(They're simply too dumb to be any fun). I will allow Ratlings and Rough Riders as off-world attachments to the regiment and Commissariat Cadets. Players are allowed to pilot pretty much anything, Sentinels, Artillery, Tanks, Chimeras, though no Valkyries and Vendettas as those are Navy Liasons. Also if nobody is going to pick a heavy weapon, I'm going to come up with the Heavy Weapons Preference for this regiment myself.

P.S. that the previous regiment was a siege regiment, does not mean the new one is. Also, I know dying is a great part of the Imperial Guard and usually they only have their huge numbers going for them, but that's not how I'm gonna roll here. I'm not gonna go up against foes we don't have a reasonable chance of beating.
Also, do not hesitate to send me a PM if you have questions you don't want to ask here.

Have you thought what "sort" of regiment this will be (i.e, not as harsh as valhallans or krieg?) or would that come after the rp starts?

Somewhere halfway 'tween Tanith unconventionality and Cadian discipline.

As for siege, artillery, armour 'n things. That kinda depends on what people want to be. If someone is set on being a Leman Russ officer, I see no reason yet to deny them. There's going to be a fair share of infantry and if nobody takes something special I have some ideas of my own.

I was just about ready to give this up. Thanks for a little spark of hope BETA.
Also, if you want to post a char proposal, go ahead. I'm happy with what I can get now.

You're the first more or less participant. So, this isn't moving anywhere fast yet.

indeed, kind of depressing to see that considering the amount of Wh40k fans on this site(well, not too many, but I've seen them in the glade often)

I just hope they are not scared that we are going to repeat the Ares Incident.

(the name was a stroke of genius from Omega's part. Now that it died horribly I can speak of it like "that one time really bad snow happened" and others I speak too might not have a clue what it is(they might not even figure it out to be an RP) )

I sure do not hope that will repeat itself, though, as I admitted there, I was sort/part of the problem pushing things in a different direction. But that was, I think, also due to Omega's Hands off approach to it. I'm planning to have hands on.

I've poked a few people, but I've yet to see any results from that.

Just have a bit of patience and maybe start thinking of a char. Now we've got Berny and just Beta, I'll wait for two more people before I'm gonna start this. Just two people does not make for much RP'ing.

Don't pretend you're interested in an RPG that is rather desperate for participants then.
